Simple and rustic at Conestoga Golf & Country Club | Ben & Wendy

Ben and Wendy wanted a wedding day that was simple and elegant with a touch of rustic. Conestoga Golf & Country Club was the perfect place for them to that get that exact feeling. With loads of DIY, they were able to make their wedding ideas come to life…

Bride & Groom: Ben & Wendy Smith

Wedding Date: May 18th, 2019

Ceremony & Reception Location(s): Ceremony: WMB Church (wmbchurch.ca)This is the church Ben and I have been going to since our undergrads. Being married at WMB Church was the perfect fit for us!” – B&W

Reception: Conestoga Golf and Conference Centre (golfnorth.ca/conestoga)It’s a scenic location for photos and the upstairs space has a very nice open space for guests. What really sold us, though, was how accommodating the venue was to our needs. In addition to their already great menu package, we were able to bring in an authentic Chinese dish and have our Chinese tea ceremony on site. Conestoga and Rebecca, the hospitality manager, were amazing hosts for our wedding.” – W

Colour Palette: Mauve, Charcoal Grey and Gold

Theme: “We wanted our wedding day to be simple and elegant with a hint of rustic. This came through in décor like our signage, sweetheart table backdrop and centrepieces. To start, my dress had subtle glitter that sparkled whenever I moved. To continue the fairy-tale effect, we made sure to have twinkle lights incorporated into our backdrop to give us the just-married glow. For the rustic effect, we had a customized wooden pie topper and wooden table numbers, with florals and wood borders for our signage.” – W

Flowers: “Lina from Elle’s Fleurelles (ellesfleurelles.com) customized my rental bouquets and centrepieces. For the main flower, we choose mauve, pink and cream roses. In the centrepieces, the roses were surrounded by cream carnations, white spider mums and silver dollar eucalyptus leaves. Lina went out of her way to make my wedding special and beautiful. She even matched the ribbons tied around the centrepiece vases to my bouquets.” – W

Fav décor element: “The DIY backdrop that my sister and I created was my favourite décor element. We had so much fun through the creation process and the result was so much better than I imagined!” – W

DIY: “Most of our decorations were DIY, such as the welcome sign, sweetheart table, table chart, hanging photo booth guestbook, advice cards and wedding favours.” – W

Invitations/stationery: “We created our wedding invitations on Vistaprint using our engagement photos.” – W

Cake: “Instead of a traditional wedding cake, we decided to have a wedding pie. We both really enjoy pie and got Ben’s favourite, lemon meringue. We topped it with a custom topper.” – W

Wedding favours: “We made our own wedding favours which were a set of matches and a candle. We customized “The Perfect Match” box of matches with our names and wedding date from Etsy: Perfect Occasion Store (etsy.com/ca/shop/PerfectOccasionStore). The volatile candles were from Yummi Candles (yummicandles.ca) & we added gold foil labels on them from Etsy: (etsy.com/ca/shop/OliviaLabelFactory ) ” – W&B

Groomsmen and Groom’s attire: Moore’s Clothing for Men (mooresclothing.com)

Bridesmaids attire and accessories: David’s Bridal (davidsbridal.ca)

Bride’s dress and accessories: David’s Bridal (davidsbridal.ca)

DJ: Caleb Smith (instagram.com/caleb.smith.music)

Photobooth: “We hired a photobooth from Cinebooth (facebook.com/CineboothOntario) for our wedding and our guests loved it! We had friends and family share how much fun they had with the photobooth. The photobooth company we worked with printed out photos strips for our guests to take home as a keepsake and we got to keep a copy to hang-up on our photobooth guestbook. If couples have the budget and want to capture some fun memories, I’d suggest getting one!” – W

Hair & make-up: “My hair was done by Bethany Yager (instagram.com/bethyagerhair) and the Bridesmaids hair was done by Brides by Sisters (facebook.com/bridesbysisters) and Chau Kaying Xiong (instagram.com/kay.x.artistry) did our make-up” – W

Photographer: Danae Marie Photography (danaemarie.ca)”We actually met our photographer, Danae, at a friend’s wedding. We saw just by the way she worked, so at ease and calm, she knew what she was doing. Of course, once I saw how beautiful my friend’s wedding photos were and Danae’s online portfolio, I knew I wanted to hire her right away. Of course, to work with Danae was just as I imagined – simply awesome! I love how easily she makes you feel comfortable in front of the camera and her photos always turn out so stunningly beautiful!

Fav wedding memory: “One of my favourite memories is the time alone that I got to spend with my husband, between the ceremony and reception. We took half an hour to go for a walk around the golf course, soak in the day, and just enjoy each other’s company. We ended up sitting on a bench along the river and just enjoying the landscape. It was a much-needed pause in our very busy and exciting day; I’m glad we were able to have that moment together.” – W
