LOCATION: Stratford Country Club “We had attended a family member’s wedding at the Stratford Country Club in December 2021. We absolutely loved the venue and food! We decided right then to see if we could have our own wedding there too. With us living in Yellowknife, NT, we knew communication was going to be very important for the venue we chose in Ontario. Char, the coordinator at the Stratford Country Club, was absolutely amazing. She was super responsive, even getting on the phone with us several times. She provided us with all the information and support we needed to plan our classic black and white wedding long distance, and eased all of our worries.” – C 

TELL US YOUR STORY

“We met through mutual friends when we were both living in Ontario. I was finishing up my undergraduate degree and he was finishing the second year of his Phd. After our second or third date, he told me he had plans to move to northern Canada once he finished his Phd. Flash forward two years and in 2017 he did more to the Northwest Territories. I had just been accepted to a Masters program in Ontario and we decided to try to make things work long distance while I studied.

THE BIG MOVE…

In 2019 after I completed my masters degree, I made the decision to move to Yellowknife. In February 2020 we adopted our puppy Willow. Then, with the pandemic happening, like many couples, we were forced to spend almost every moment together while we both worked from home and socially distanced from friends. We found that if we could manage long distance, a few major life events, and a global pandemic together, that we would probably be able to handle any other challenges together.” – C

COLOUR PALETTE/THEME: “We kept our colour palette classic and simple with white, green, black, and gold accents. We wanted the day to be elegant and classic so we focused on large white florals, greenery, and candles for our centrepieces. We wanted to bring our black and white wedding to life and keep things classic.” – C

BIGGEST CHALLENGE: “The biggest challenge was planning everything from so far away. Especially the decor. We worked with Divine Wedding Design, and they were fantastic, but it was difficult at first envisioning all of our ideas coming together. I felt confident with what we put together but it wasn’t until I was able to visit their show room in person, about 2 months before the wedding, that I knew they were going to perfectly execute my ideas.” – C

FAVOURITE MEMORY: “To share our love with our friends and family was so special. We even had our dog take part in the ceremony. The entire day was amazing, from the ceremony to hilarious speeches during the reception.” – C&R

ADVICE FROM ONE COUPLE TO ANOTHER: “Enjoy the process! It goes by so quickly, and it can be easy to get hung up on small details that in the end, you won’t even remember.” – C&R
