Simply Wedding Photography captures tons of personality at Emily & Attila’s wedding!

Who doesn’t love geodes?! Emily and Attila brought in so much personality with the different rocks and crystals they used. They were able to share a piece of their life with all of their family and friends…

Bride & Groom: Emily Vander Vlugt-Szakolczay and Attila Szakolczay

Wedding Date: August 4, 2018

Ceremony & Reception Location(s): Ceremony: Lakeside Church Downtown Guelph. Reception: Cutten Fields in Guelph (cuttenfields.com) “Cutten Fields was recommended to me by my friend. We loved the stunning view of how it overlooks the city. The atmosphere was amazing and the food was absolutely delicious too. Nothing else we looked at compared to experience we had when starting to work with Cutten Fields.” – E

Colour Palette: Greens, Purples and Golds

Theme: “Overall theme was rough rock/ geodes. I am a goldsmith by trade, so I wanted our wedding to reflect what I’m so passionate about.” – E

Flowers: “My mom created the flower arrangements for myself, my bridesmaids and the church. She used very realistic looking silk flowers. (I wanted to keep my bouquet after, and the girls still have theirs on display too). She used a mix of hydrangeas, peony buds, heather, roses, gardenias, dusty miller and sage.” – E

Décor: “We hired Kim Evans from Creative Bride to set up the decor and take care of the fresh flowers that I wanted to add to the ceiling and table arrangements. For the decor, I was using these geometric candle holders in gold as well as terrariums. I also added rough cut gemstones (amethyst, rose quartz, pyrite to name a few).” – E

Fav décor element: “Hard to say because everything tied in so well together and there was a lot of personal touches. I absolutely loved the overall look at our reception but I would have to say the table arrangements. We had these geometric gold centerpieces where the flowers were hanging down from inside, and large pieces of rough amethyst, rose quartz and pyrite.” – E

DIY: “We did so many DIY projects!! I am very artistic, so I created paintings for each of the table numbers, the seating chart and the welcome sign. My mom, maid of honour and I painted names on each agate slices for the seating arrangements which were also the wedding favours. We made pew bows, the flower arrangements, the center pieces. Most importantly, I made my husbands wedding band from white and yellow gold. I also made each of the bridesmaids a name bracelet out of silver. I designed all of the stationary and wrote my own funny program.!” – E

Invitations/stationery: “We used Vista print. I uploaded a painting of mine for the background. I used it as a template to write my own programs, and invitations.” – E

Cake: Julie from Refined Sugar Cakes (refinedsugar.ca). “We had bubblegum and raspberry white chocolate cupcakes. We also had the most beautiful cake that was decorated like a geode using rock candy and the flavour was pink lemonade. The icing on the outside was marbled too.!” – E

Wedding favours: “We used rough agate slices to make the name plates, which I painted in gold leaf (the names) as well as rough rock candy in purple to look like amethyst. We ordered the candies from I Love Chocolates (ilovechocolate.ca) in Fergus” – E&A

Groomsmen and Groom’s attire: Moores Clothing for Men (mooresclothing.com) “They wore light grey suits, white shirts and purple silk ties with funky socks. The socks weren’t planned!” – A

Bridesmaids attire and accessories: Davids Bridal (davidsbridal.ca) “The ladies wore Vera Wang in amethyst. Their accessories were the jewellery I made.” – E

Bride’s dress and accessories: “I wore a Sophia Tolli dress that I got at Taylors Bridal Boutique (taylorsbridal.com). We added straps, and removed some of the crinoline. I wore my moms 25th wedding anniversary freshwater pearl set.” – E

DJ: Something Blue Wedding DJ’s (somethingblueweddingdjs.com). “They did an amazing job at keeping the crowd pumped up. They also worked with me on creating a mashup of 6 different songs, which I choreographed an amazing father/ daughter dance.” – E

Hair & make-up: “Meghan Barbour Makeup Artist (meghanbarbour.ca) did my makeup as well as the other girls and moms. My hairstylist is a long time friend, and honorary sister, Leslie White.” – E

Catering: “Cutten Fields provided all of the food except for the cake. I requested a pierogi bar for the late night snack which was outstanding and definitely a hit with our guests.”- E

Photographer: Simply Wedding Photography (simplyweddingphotography.ca) “We met Jacqueline from Simply Wedding Photography at one of the wedding shows. Instantly we had a connection. We saw her portfolio and were in love with her style. During the wedding day, she was so relaxed which made us feel really comfortable. She was great at getting us to have some alone time in between the ceremony and the reception which we needed. All of the shots were fun to take, and she was really open to suggestions. An important location for us was at our local pool hall. Attila and I met playing in the league and it has been a big part of our lives. Being able to take some of our photos there was great because it really captured who we are as a couple.” – E

Biggest challenge: “We tried to tackle so many DIY projects (which we accomplished) but there was definitely a time crunch. We had to be very organized and manage our time well.” – E&A

Fav wedding memory: “Hard to say because it was the perfect day for us! To me, it would be the moment I saw Attila at the altar when the doors opened. Any nervous feelings I had melted and I don’t think I could have been happier in that moment.” – E

Advice from one couple to another: “Keep it simple! Don’t worry about the small stuff. When we were first planning, we wrote down 3 things that were the most important to us. This way it kept us focused on what we really wanted and not worrying about the small stuff. You can’t control everything. Also, remember to make your wedding personal and reflect who you are as a couple. From my experience, EVERYONE will have their opinions… they are just opinions. At the end of the day it’s a celebration of the love that the two of you share.” – E
