Kitchener-Waterloo area couple, Sean and Jessica are both engineers, musicians, and self proclaimed Sci-Fi nerds. They were looking for a unique venue that fit their personalities and that their guests would remember. In the end they found the perfect wedding venue, designed a gorgeous wedding, and had the time of their lives with the people they love. This is Sean and Jessica’s love story…
BRIDE & GROOM: Jessica Petras & Sean Elmer
WEDDING DATE: September 2, 2017
LOCATION: THEMUSEUM (themuseum.ca) “THEMUSEUM was perfect. The space can be transformed into anything depending on what décor you use, and our guests had a blast during cocktail hour on the balconies overlooking the atrium and exploring all the exhibits.” – J&S

PHOTOGRAPHY: Brian Limoyo Wedding Photography (brianlimoyoweddings.com)
“I went to The Ring’s Wedding Expo in Kitchener-Waterloo and was on a mission to find a photographer. I checked out every photographer there, but I kept going back to Brian Limoyo’s exhibit. His pictures looked like something out of a magazine, and he had a lot of unique shots, locations, and ideas that I hadn’t seen anywhere else. Sean and I met up with him a few weeks later to chat and found out he is also a very cool guy! Brian is so passionate about his work and he captured so many incredible moments. He’s so easy to work with and makes you feel comfortable. When we got our photos back we were absolutely shocked. They were the best wedding photos I had ever seen. I don’t know how he does it, but he gets the light perfect every time. He made us, our family, and our friends look amazing!” -J
COLOUR PALETTE: “Champagne with pops of colour” -J
WEDDING THEME: “Classy with pops of personality! We kept it classy with Sean and the groomsman in dapper black tuxes, and cranked up the personality with the bride and bridesmaids’ 50s-inspiried dresses. We kept most of the décor neutral but made it our own by choosing a unique venue and elements like sequin table runners and speeches that were basically stand-up comedy routines!” – J&S
FLORAL DESIGN: “Almeia from Wedding Dream (weddingdream.net) made our bouquets and centrepieces. We went with light pink, peach, and greens in a loose arrangement.” – J
WEDDING DESIGN: Wedding Dream (weddingdream.net) “We used a lot of white translucent fabric panels to transform the space, gold chavari chairs, and some pops of champagne sequin table linens and runners to add some sparkle… This might sound weird but I was obsessed with our gold chivari chairs. They really made the space seem more decorated and classy.” – J
DIY? No.
We decided in order to reduce stress in preparing for and executing the day, we would outsource everything. For us this was a great decision and our vendors did an absolutely amazing job.” – J&S

FAVOURITE THINGS:
“We had our favourite summer craft beer, Elora Borealis by Elora Brewing (elorabrewingcompany.ca) on tap at the wedding. It was a huge hit with our guests. The other thing that really made our wedding stand out was the live band! We had the Dan Howler Band play our reception and they absolutely rocked! The dance floor never died down and we had an absolute blast. They even let me go up and play the drums with them for a song in the second set, and Sean and I went up and sang the last song. It was an epic night!”

BRIDE’S DRESS & ACCESSORIES: “Dress & pillbox cap/bird cage were from Taylor’s Bridal Boutique (taylorsbridal.com), my earrings were pearl studs that were a gift from my grandmother. My blue shoes were from amazon.com and my champagne sparkle shoes were from Unique Vintage (unique-vintage.com)” – J
BAND: The Dan Howler Band (danhowlermusic.bandcamp.com)
HAIR & MAKE-UP: Lisa Dang at Voila Uptown Waterloo (voilasalon.com)
CATERING: Gusto Catering Company (gustocatering.ca)
Biggest challenge: “The biggest challenge was the last month or so before the wedding. We arranged and booked all the big items like our caterer, venue, etc., but we were left with a massive list of small loose ends to tie up before the big day. Sean and I used the Google Keep app to make prioritized to-do lists and chipped away at the small items one by one until they were all done.” – J
FAVOURITE MOMENT:
“When we are at weddings or things like Oktoberfest, often people ask Sean and I if we choreograph our dance moves – and the answer is no way! It’s all about feeding off your partner’s energy and having a blast on the dance floor. This is exactly what we did for our first dance to Twist and Shout by the Beatles. We tore up the dance floor and danced like no one was watching (even though we were surrounded by all our close friends and family). This was definitely our best memory of the day. No choreography needed!” – J&S
ADVICE, ONE COUPLE TO ANOTHER: “Use Google Sheets for everything! Both of you can edit your files from anywhere on your phones, share them with the wedding party, and it just keeps everything organized. Google Keep is also a good way to make sharable to-do lists.” – J
MORE ABOUT THEMUSEUM | THEMUSEUM (themuseum.ca) is not your typical banquet hall. It offers a non-traditional, off-the-cuff atmosphere while still remaining beautiful, simple, and elegant. 55 foot ceilings and a modern industrial feel with vibrant colours, circle motif, and large skylight overhead makes for room unlike any other in the Waterloo region.
