Nestled on the river, Nithridge Estate’s amphitheatre, gardens and tent allow for outdoor dream weddings.

NithRidge Estate Wedding & Events, operated by Karima Kassam from Event Depot, was already naturally beautiful on its own. But when you add in its renaissance ambiance, an amphitheatre for outdoor ceremonies, beautifully landscaped gardens, and a horse-drawn carriage, we knew that if this location wasn’t already booked solid, it would be shortly.

Locate just twenty to thirty minutes from Kitchener, NithRidge is an all-in-one location offering amenities for just about every aspect of your day from a bridal suite for you and your attendants to on-site hair and make-up, and picturesque photo locations to the unique outdoor ceremony, tent reception spaces, and terrace cocktails. There doesn’t seem to be much that Karima won’t help you with on your wedding day – including providing shuttle service to and from hotels and major centres. We sat down with Karima to find out more about what they do and offer engaged couples. Here’s what we found out…

Personally speaking…

Terry and Marley Schmidt, owners of the stunning 19th Century brick farmhouse and 33-acre property, turned the NithRidge Estate into their dream event location in 2000.

Shortly after they began to consider retirement in 2020, Terry and Marley were introduced to Karima from Event Depot. Karima and her team were enthusiastic about taking over the operations for events at the estate, running it as their own company, and building a solid network of vendors. Event Depot officially took over events in September 2020 and will be hosting all weddings and events moving forward. Since the takeover, Nithridge Estate Weddings & Events has been recognized as one of the most Romantic Riverside Country Wedding Venue in South Western Ontario by LUX Life magazine

Groom Dan tells us, “Our venue canceled, the hairdresser canceled, our band went down from a six-piece to a two-piece, but we had our photographer, our caterer, and our event coordinator. Crushed for only a moment, we began redesigning our wedding day…again. We shifted and pivoted more times than I can count. In the end, our event coordinator saved the day. Karima from Event Depot helped us regroup and re-imagine what our day could be. She made calls and got us connected. What originally was going to be a party ended up being completely different than we ever imagined. We were having a wedding at Nithridge Estate!”

The Estate has an almost endless list of options for couples getting married. You can hold your ceremony in the amphitheatre with a beautiful tent reception (the tent accommodates up to 250 people). You can book a carriage/carriageway that features two Percheron draft horses – you’ll get to know both McAllister (MAC) and Torino (TRINO). There is also a beautiful old-world terrace for cocktail hour after your ceremony.

The grounds also include a full salon for the wedding party (no rushing to different locations all day!), washrooms in the silo, and ample parking. Guests can enjoy the breathtaking landscaping and gardens, scattered with gorgeous fountains, columns, statues, and beautiful mature trees.

All-in-one location…

With the trend towards conveniently having your ceremony and reception at the same venue, we wouldn’t be surprised if even more brides and grooms fall in love with Nithridge Estate. In addition to getting ready on-site, couples can have getting ready photos among the exclusive and luxurious gardens and landscaped picturesque river, and the surrounding forest and nature trails. It is hard to believe that these beautiful grounds are within thirty (and less in some places) minutes from the core of Kitchener-Waterloo and are tucked behind a seemingly everyday subdivision in Ayr – it’s a hidden gem, that’s for sure.

After photos, you’re ready to walk down the aisle of the amphitheatre, surrounded by multi-level concrete blocks with folding chairs (a great idea for guests in the back who would otherwise have trouble seeing). What better (natural) backdrop than the Nith River?

Following the ceremony, guests can explore the nature trails or head to the reception tent while you, your new spouse, your wedding party, and your families take photos. Don’t forget to go for a ride in their Queen Victoria carriage with Mac and Trino. When you book the horse and carriage (for $1,500), you get them for the entire period, from the ceremony until introductions at the reception. Karima suggests that you and your spouse take a ride in the carriage alone so you can have the first 15-20 minutes of your wedding day alone together in the carriage. “It is not only romantic but a very memorable way to start your new life together.”

The amphitheatre, grounds, reception tent, and all amenities are available for other events and engagement photos as well.

Food: local and customizable

Executive Chef / Owner, Bob Friesen from Gourmet Chef at Your Table graduated from the prestigious Stratford Chefs School in 2006. He has mentored Karima and works closely with couples to create the perfect menu for their special day.

Chef Nicole is the head chef at The Ridge Social Eatery. She is an integral part of Nithridge as she helps with BBQ cuisine, boxed lunches, brunches for micro-weddings, and so forth.

Complete bar services are available with non- and alcoholic punches, pop, liquor, domestic and imported beers, coolers, cocktails, and wine.

Bride Maggie tells us, “The Food…Oh, the FOOD!: Chef Bob Friesen from Gourmet Chef at Your Table had to keep redoing the menu as our wedding shifted, but we finally got it right. The hors d’oeuvres were spectacular, with servers walking the property, keeping our guests busy trying each dish. The sit-down meal was served on mismatched china dishes, which caused great conversation with our guests, and tea was served in china teacups. Every detail mattered including era-specific food such as Mac’n Cheese Pops and Deconstructed Apple Pie for dessert!”

Walking you through Nithridge Estate Weddings…

Email Karima to book an appointment for a tour of the grounds and discuss your wedding in further detail. Based on what you need, she will provide you with a quote. When you’re ready to book, you’ll sign the contract and pay a $3000 deposit to reserve your wedding date.

Karima tells us, “We love the look on the couple’s faces when they first get engaged. We love to dream with them and feel excited when they first visit the property for a tour. It’s like a new relationship blooms and blossoms into a beautiful special day that we get to be a part of. It an overwhelming sense of gratitude when you see everything come together and the smiles on the couple’s faces and the compliments from the guests. It’s like…wow…look what my team and I did. The feeling is indescribable.”

Between booking and your wedding, you’ll meet with Karima a few more times to select the menu, décor, and other wedding day details. Then, on your wedding day, you get to enjoy the ease and convenience of this all-in-one location.
