With the ability to host a small intimate wedding of 50 people or a large celebration of 800 guests, St. George Hall offers a great venue option for your special day.

Located in Waterloo, Brani Abadzic and his team are committed to helping couples make their wedding vision a reality. In fact, flexibility and offering incredible services are their main priorities. Brani, who has been a member of the St. George community for a number of years, jumped at the opportunity to revamp the whole service team at the venue. With over 30 years of experience in the customer service and sales industry, he wanted to make a difference for local brides. The rest of the team is comprised of two European executive chefs, banquet captains and service professionals.

Staff at The Ring sat down with Brani Abadzic at St. George Banquet Hall to learn more about how the courteous and professional staff strive to make each and every wedding spectacular.

The trifecta of services…

Since first opening for business in 2005, St George’s Hall has hosted hundreds of weddings.

As one of the largest venues in the Kitchener/Waterloo area, the venue offers a flexible space that can accommodate an event with 50 guests up to 800. Brani admits that St. George Hall offers the trifecta in wedding services – excellent food, exceptional service and a beautiful venue.

Rohit Chaudhary hosted his sister’s Indian ceremony on July 1st, 2016, but he and his wife also hosted a reception party for themselves at St. George Banquet Hall when they visited Canada. “We had a great experience,” he admits. “It’s a really great venue with really friendly staff that are very accommodating to all needs. We have also had family friends that have also had Indian weddings at this location. This is why we selected the place to host my sister’s wedding as well,” explains Rohit.

The Grand Hall is conveniently customizable with two dividing walls to create the balance of the three separate halls, each with its own dance floor. Drop down chandeliers and mirrors accent the colours and decor of each hall.

Taking advantage of the entire hall for the wedding, Rohit says that the lights make the venue appear even bigger and the gazebo outside was a perfect location for family photos.

“It’s hard to find staff that work so closely with their customers almost like they’re family. There were just as invested in making sure the day was a success and that gave us the confidence and ease of mind that everything would be taken care of,” he says, adding that everything from the food, dining area and stage were all perfectly executed. “Even if we needed any adjustments like increasing the stage size, the staff was really quick in accommodating the changes and took care of everything.”

“There are two bridal suites for the bride and her party to either use to get ready or to just relax in during any downtime,” explains Brani. Each suite comes with a bathroom, seating space and storage space for your personal belongings, which can be safely locked away.

Prices and packages….

The venue offers the total package that will fit the needs of almost every bride.

“We don’t like to say no. If there is any way we can make it work for you, we will,” admits Brani. Prices vary considerably depending on what the couple would like for their day, but typically for a buffet wedding, it would average $30 per person with a cash bar. For a plated service, the average price would be $60 per person with a cash bar. For a plated dinner service with open bar, it would average $90 per person.

Tables, chairs, glassware, cutlery, dishes and linens of selected colour are all included in your St. George wedding. A corkage fee of $4.50 per bottle applies if you bring your own wine for dinner, but remember you need to have a liquor license to do so. Cake cutting and services are also included.

“If you decide to do minimal décor – chair covers and centrepieces, the team at St. George Hall will even place them for you,” Brani says.

“We were able to design the layout exactly how we wanted it, including the stage. I think the best part was how accommodating they were with all the needs. As part of the Indian wedding, we needed the stage to be bigger, which they gladly setup on the day just before the wedding started. They also took care of the entrance and had perfect seating arrangement so everyone had a good view of the stage, which was important to us,” says Rohit.

For an outdoor ceremony option, St. George has a picturesque gazebo and ample room to accommodate an outdoor tent for an outdoor reception. For indoor ceremonies, the hall the Grand Hall exuberates extravagance and luxury.

The planning process…

The initial meeting with brides is with Brani. Once the day is booked, there is a member of the Operations team who is assigned to the event who will work with the bride and groom throughout the rest of the planning process. This person will also be one managing the services and coordination on the day of the wedding.

The food services…

When it comes to menu option, there are so many choices it can seem overwhelming, but according to Brani, the team can help narrow down the choice to create a wedding that is as unique as your relationship.

“We offer too many choices to list and approach every event with an open mind,” says Brani.

Helping to create your dream menu are St. George’s two European Master Chefs, who can customize a menu to any ethnic background. From a la carte receptions, deluxe cocktail reception, plated or country style dinner or buffet, the choice is yours. St. George will work with you to build a menu that you and your guests will enjoy. “If it’s not on our menu, our chefs can make if for you. If you would like a specific ethnic food and we can’t make it, we will work with the bride and groom to bring in food from their favourite licensed caterer” says Brani.

“Most brides choose a plated dinner, bar and wine service provided by St. George”

Bar options include cash bar, hosted bar, as well as bringing your own wine, if they do not have your favourite drink on their bar list they will work with you to bring it in. During wine service, the St. George bar closes.

When asked if he would recommend St. George Banquet Hall, Rohit agrees. “I’m sure there will be more Indian weddings happening at this venue in the future,” he says. “The venue is great and is an awesome location. The staff are very friendly and they will make sure that you have a successful and perfect wedding.”
