Spirits Intrigued Photography captures true love stories with a thoughtful, unique and relaxed approach
When we met Alex Budinski, owner of Spirits Intrigued Photography, we were blown away with his portfolio. His zest for life and thoughtful approach to every single image he takes is abundantly clear (just take a look at the stunning images to the right to see what we mean). So we weren’t surprised when past couples described him with words like “a visionary” and “unbelievably talented”.
There were countless reasons why his couples love him. Part of his appeal is his personable, flexible and stress-free approach (we heard first-hand how comfortable he can make even the most camera shy bride and groom feel). Part of it is that his images capture connections between couples, bringing back those incredible feelings of love and happiness from their wedding day. And another part of his appeal comes from an adventurous and truly creative style that has the capability of transporting you to another moment.
Here’s more on why brides can’t get enough of this incredible, Kitchener-based photographer…
When we sat down with Alex to pour over his stunning images, he told us about his journey as a photographer, “I have been holding a camera in my hand for over fifteen years. Before I got into wedding photography, I wanted to make sure that I enjoyed it and that I was good enough. Investing in me and trusting me to be someone’s photographer is something I don’t take for granted. I have a Mechanical Designer and Project Management background, which is reflected in my attention to detail.”
After realizing that he has a deep passion for wedding photography and honing his craft, Alex was ready to take the plunge and become a full-time photographer. He officially opened SIP five years ago and has steadily increased his client base each year since. Today, Alex has photographed over fifty weddings, “and I loved being at each one!” His images have also been used for advertising and marketing purposes and some of his fine art work has even been published in a book.
After so many weddings, what keeps him inspired? Alex says it’s the creativity and ability to constantly reinvent himself that ignites his passion, “I’m always learning new techniques and ways of looking at the world around me.” He adds, “It brings me joy to provide my clients with images that they cherish.”
Krista and Martyn Mulder booked SIP for their July 7th, 2012 wedding day and say that they felt like Alex was truly a part of their family on their wedding day, “Alex offered a world of creativity to us. He took amazing photos, and always kept what we wanted in mind. We did our wedding photos on the farm, and it was so great that he was not afraid to get a bit dirty. At one point we climbed into the pen with our Texas Longhorns Cattle, and he climbed right in with us. I thought that was quite brave! It was also great that he was able to capture candid shots. We have some amazing photos of our parents laughing that we love because of this. Alex made some of our boring locations turn into amazingly creative spots.”
Dina and Mark Paddock, who got married on May 3, 2014 choose Alex for three simple reasons – his work, his personality and the package and prices. “Alex kept our photoshoots really relaxed. He kept us laughing – it was just like we were hanging out with one of our friends,” recalls Dina.
The SIP style
Alex describes his natural style as contemporary and modern. Alex explains, “I place my clients into comfortable positions, focusing on natural expressions and connection. I also like things that are real. There is no photoshop in my work to create artificial light, effect or object. I love to capture the moment before the lips touch.”
With that said, Alex doesn’t have a specific type of client he works with- he really has worked with all types of personalities and styles and is flexible enough to adapt to any style. However, many SIP couples are fun, down to earth and love to get creative with their photos.
Ines Fisher and Nial Fisher remembered their initial impression of Alex and his work, “I went to a lot of wedding shows and looked and compared all the photographers. His work caught my eye every time, he seemed to capture the images I was looking for. I really liked his style from the first time I saw his work. Later on, I took my husband to a few wedding shows and when we got to talk to Alex, we got a great first impression and talked for quite a while. The decision to hire him was easy.”
Alex truly goes above and beyond for his clients, offering many services that are typically an extra charge with most wedding photographers. For example, if you have a specific engagement shoot location in mind, Alex is happy to shoot at your preferred location, usually at no extra charge. In the past, Alex has travelled to Grand Bend, Sarnia and even Owen Sound at no extra charge for his clients.
This often applies to your wedding day as well. Alex will travel up to an hour and a half outside of KW for no extra charge- ideal for couples from Toronto to London!
Another fabulous perk? Alex personally delivers all images to his clients in a handmade folio that he has handmade and personalized for you.
All SIP images are colour corrected, high quality, full resolution and unmarked. With SIP you know you’re getting the highest quality, from the equipment to the images to the photo books and canvas.
Ines Fisher and Nial Fisher remember some of their favourite memories of working with Alex, “He has a professional attitude, personable, reliable, unique style and a good eye for details. He captures the right moment and you get value for your money. His work speaks for itself. We didn’t really notice that Alex was taking pictures on our wedding day, it is almost like he is invisible but also everywhere at the same time. It was very easy to choose Alex as our photographer, because no one else really compared.”
