A Yelapa destination wedding brought Trent and Connie back to the Mexican village where their love story began. After a spontaneous trip to Puerto Vallarta led to an unexpected sunset meeting, the two discovered a connection that felt like destiny. One year later, they returned to Miramar Yelapa to exchange vows overlooking the ocean and mountains, surrounded by 40 of their closest family and friends. With vibrant teal and fuchsia details, mariachi music, heartfelt vows, and fireworks lighting up the night sky, their intimate celebration was a full-circle moment filled with love, laughter, and a few reminders that some things are simply meant to be.

TELL US YOUR STORY!: "I had decided on a completely spontaneous trip to Puerto Vallarta. No plans, no itinerary, just a feeling that I need to get away, breath, and reset. That morning, I took the water taxi to Yelapa, a small village tucked between the mountains and the sea. I spent the first half of the day exactly the way you imagine a traveler might: hiking the jungle path, swimming beneath the waterfall I had always wanted to see, and eating lunch close enough to the ocean that the waves nearly touched my feet.
After returning from Yelapa later that afternoon, something in me felt different - grounded, open, calm. I head to the beach to take in the sunset and enjoy the moment. That's where I met Consuelo.
She was visiting from California with her family, the kind of woman who lights up a space without trying. Her family had been talking for weeks about destiny, without knowing how that word would weave itself into our lives. We started talking casually, but the conversation quickly turned into something more. Within minutes, were were laughing, sharing stores, and feeling a connection that felt both surprising and strangely familiar.
We spent the entire evening together, as if we had known each other far longer than a few hours. By the time I walked her back that night along the beach, the sky painted in deep gold and fading pink, we both felt it - the quiet but undeniable sense that something extraordinary was unfolding.
The next day, I flew home to Alberta, carrying more than just the memory of a beautiful place. I carried the feeling that my life had shifted in the span of a single sunset. Consuelo returned to California already feeling the same pull, the same sense of meaning behind a day that wasn't planned but couldn't have been more perfectly timed.
That's when the signs began.
The number 11 started appearing everywhere - on clocks, receipts, tickets, messages, room numbers. We'd text each other when it happened, both amazed at how often it showed up. It started as a coincidence, but it quickly became something more: a symbol that we were exactly where we were meant to be. And then came the sunsets and moonlit evening, the photos we wold send each other from different places, knowing we were looking at the same sky.
Consuelo's parents, began calling our relationship "el destino", and it felt true. Everything between us unfolded with unexpected clarity and peace - no forcing, no guessing, just a sense that the universe was connecting dots long before we understood the pattern" - Trent
BIGGEST CHALLENGE: The timeline! Planning a destination wedding in four months should probably win an award. We had moments where we looked at each other and thought, "Are we really doing this, this fast?" But somehow every detail came together - from the venue to the mariachi - and the whirlwind became part of the story we'll never forget.
BEST MEMORY: Our best memory was sharing our vows and unveiling the book we created about our love story. Standing together in Yelapa - the place where our journey began - and reading the words we had written for each other was the most emotional moment of the entire day. Even with all our loved ones around us, it felt like time slowed down and it was just the two of us.
But what made it unforgettable was what followed. As we opening the book and shared the chapters of how we met, the meaning of el destino, the number 11, and all the signs that led us back to this village, we could feel out families connecting to our story. Watching them read those pages, laugh, cry, and understand the magic behind our journey was something we'll never forget.
ADVICE FORM ONE COUPLE TO ANOTHER: Don't overthink the planning. The tiny things you worry about now won't matter on your wedding day - the joy, the emotions, the people, and the love take over everything else. Trust the process, breathe, and let the day unfold. It always turns out exactly the way it's meant to.
