GUEST #: 5

COLOUR PALETTE: “Navy, camel, pale green – minimalism was the name of the game. Our goal was to have no extra décor. I had a $100 bouquet but gave no preference for colour of the flowers. Jess wore a navy suit and patterned pocket square. I wore a camel coat over my dress and, because of the mountain top venue, we both wore sunglasses part of the time. The sunshine was SO BRIGHT on our wedding day.” – A

TELL US YOUR STORY: “Jess and I met in October 2009. Immediately we knew that we fit together and the way we got along was simply really easy. Even though I came to BC from North Western Ontario, being here with Jess feels like home. We lived together for 7 years before we got engaged – that is a tale all on its own. There was a LITTLE mishap with a BIG ring and her proposal plans that only Jess can fully explain – (in short, she ordered a piece from a jewelry fabricator that she found online, and the ring/stone that ended up coming in the mail is literally the size of the RING POP candy suckers. So incredibly massive, unnecessary, and quite frankly heavy and dangerous for me to wear LOL!!!) On December 9th, 2016, Jess asked me to marry her while we were taking a weekend vacation in Vancouver. We were not in a hurry to get married, but in 2019, we decided it was time to start planning our wedding for July 24th, 2020. ENTER COVID. When it became obvious that our original 4-day wedding weekend in Tofino BC, complete with a beach ceremony, BBQ reception, sun and surfing for a couple of days could not go ahead, we started to reconsider the idea of an elopement. In our early years together, while at a hair salon, one of the stylists asked Jess and I, “if [you] were ever to get married, how would [you] want to do it?” We laughed off the question at the time but replied casually with, “We want to take off on a helicopter to the top of a mountain away from everything and get it done quickly.” I had heard of a photographer named Erin Wallis through a group of mutual friends and my hair guru Janine Branchi (Foundation Hair Salon and Academy). Erin’s work is breathtaking – she makes it look effortless and magical. We felt from seeing her photography in person and online that she would be a great person to capture our ceremony. In December 2020 Erin Wallis recently announced a collaboration with 49North Helicopters – a local company that has a special HELI-LOVE booking package that includes a 2-hour flight, photography, and an officiant – all available to be booked throughout the ongoing pandemic. We chose a new date, May 21st, 2021…” – A
