The Miller Lash House: Spectacular Grounds and Beautifully Maintained Architecture Will Have You Forgetting you are Hosting A City Wedding!

Located less than 30 minutes east of downtown Toronto you will find an elegant wedding venue. Nestled atop a hill, The Miller Lash House (MLH as it will now be referred) is perfect for couples looking to get married in Toronto but not in the heart of the hustle and bustle of it all. Walking up the long driveway you are immediately greeted by the tranquil trickling water from the river-rock waterfalls and aromatic scents from the rose garden, perfect a ceremony.

The lovely brick path continues on meeting the hand-forged wrought iron and stone staircase to the house- a picturesque staircase ideal for a wedding processional. There were no events taking place when we arrived, so we took the opportunity to explore on our own a bit. There was little evidence that this was an event space as it felt more like we were trespassing on someone’s private home, a home we couldn’t wait to peek inside. Nothing about the place seemed staged. There was a genuine feel about the surroundings, with all the elements of nature creating a perfect setting.

Products & Services

A few steps into the foyer you are greeted by the Great Room on your left. The house, believed to be built in 1913, is an amazing space decorated with original antiques, including a manual typewriter from the early 1900’s. Another glorious feature of the Great Room is the nine foot mantle wood burning fireplace. Connected to the room is a screened in porch, overlooking the Highland Creek Valley, great for spending time with your guests for some pre-dinner dancing. Next to the Great Room is the Dining Room, a smaller room, which brides have used to set up their seating chart, gift table or wishing tree. Outside of the room is a grand hallway featuring three large skylights. The first room you will encounter is the Bride’s Suite, next door to which is the Bridesmaids’ Suite.

Adjacent to that room is the “Secure Room” where the bridal party can leave any valuables or personal items. Right next door is the Groom’s Suite, fondly nicknamed,  “The Last Man Cave,” an ideal respite for the groom and his groomsmen to relax. Couples will enjoy exclusive use of the space when they book (how much of the space is included depends on which bridal package they select).  There is an onsite kitchen where the caterers can prepare the mouth-watering temptations. (There is an exclusive list of caterers from which couples are required to choose.) The venue doesn’t have a liquor license requiring couples to obtain the Special Occasions Permit (SOP) and giving them the choice of purchasing their own alcohol or having it supplied through their selected caterer.

While some couples choose to have an intimate indoor reception (50 is the maximum allowed) most couples decide on an outdoor ceremony and reception. The grounds are replete with stunning areas to hold your ceremony, however there are two designated areas that couples usually select.

The first is the River Rock Waterfall Site which offers the couple the unique opportunity of being encompassed by family and friends. That space can accommodate 400 wedding guests (Yet you will have to pare down your guest list for the outdoor reception, as 220 is the maximum allowed.)

Another gorgeous option is the Evergreen Site where guests are surrounded by lush greenery accommodating up to 300 guests. Your guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres amongst the garden following your ceremony. And then will be ushered to the outdoor reception held under a stunning 3200 square foot tent boasting 19’ ceilings. Many couples select the chandelier and draping package to create a majestic feel. As evening falls, you will find the twinkle of lights glowing from the boxwood and cedar bushes surrounding the tent and the maple found in the cocktail area. As an added convenience, there are charming outdoor washroom facilities.

Details, Details, Details

You will certainly not be at a loss for photo ops both inside and outside the house. Brides won’t need, but perhaps a few candles, photos and flowers for indoor decoration.  Also, you will certainly want to get a picture in front of the Boston ivy growing along the house’s exterior. According to the Manager at MLH, it is “a very lush green in summer and a fiery red in fall.” In addition there are little purple berries growing amongst it all year long.
