Reviewing Justin and Jennifer Reid, Owners & Photographers, Latte Productions Photography
Review is written by Staff @ The Ring and is based on • Interviews with this vendor • Interviews with past brides
Latte Productions Photography, owned by recently married couple Justin and Jennifer Reid, is a company based out of Waterloo but serving the surrounding area. Since opening their doors to wedding bookings three years ago, they've taken approximately fifty full day and night weddings per year, and are hearing from more and more brides and grooms as each week passes.
So, you're probably wondering, how did this growing business earn themselves the trust of so many brides so quickly? We believe it's because Justin and Jennifer are building a wedding photography business around several principles that brides could easily love – no-limit photography with all day and night coverage and multiple experienced shooters – all at a price that's designed for brides on a budget. Offering one complete package comprised of everything a couple could hope for...and more. We were curious to find out more about Latte and the super sweet couple behind its name. Check it out...
From the beginning…
Latte Productions started out doing backup shooting and editing for other photographers. Justin explains, "We were doing the editing and backup shooting that other photographers felt to be tedious or difficult to obtain given their own abilities or resources.
Justin and Jennifer told staff at The Ring, "Latte Productions Photography became an official new direction of the company in September 2009 when we began to market ourselves as primarily wedding photographers."
They considered that they had years of experience with image editing through their photography support company already, so when Justin and Jennifer considered combining their photography support background with their passion for photography, they knew wanted to move from behind the scenes to the front line. "It's the perfect mix for us."
Latte Productions Photography was (officially) launched to brides in September 2009 as a part time business, and they treat that fact as, not only a selling point, but also a crucial factor in being able to keep their prices much lower than the industry average. "We have the luxury of working 9-5 jobs that don’t interfere with our passion for photography or our couple's needs."
Another highlight is that they spend much more time on post production and the little details that make for beautiful photos than most photographers in the industry. This might be why wedding photography has become a full-time job of its own for the firm.
Today, the firm is quickly growing, having brought on photographers who have been shooting weddings for years, to capture multiple full-day/night weddings in the same weekend.
In fact, they've had so much success that they've recently covered a wedding which aired on CBC. They've also had their work published in a two page spread The Wedding Ring Magazine's September 2011 issue!
Ashley and Tyson Canning booked Latte for their engagement photos as well as their June 2011 wedding. They told The Ring, "The team at Latte are so creative when it comes to taking the pictures and so talented when it comes to editing them. For instance, while I was waiting for my sister-in-law to get her make-up done, Justin took my engagement photo and the calendar marked with the wedding date, placed them perfectly and took a picture. The editing is just unbelievable; they took a coloured picture, changed it to black and white, but left my bouquet of flowers their original colour. We were so impressed!"
The idea behind Latte Productions
Justin and Jennifer have built their company around affordability, All Day & Night Coverage no-limits on photography, generous amounts of included travel and complete flexibility in the lengths they'll go to cover your wedding. "We are always open to requests and are constantly looking for ways to enhance your event's coverage."
Latte Productions covers full wedding days, from bridal preparation through to the end of the key reception photos and then some (they typically shoot twelve plus hours of continuous coverage), two shooters and custom designed keepsakes - all for $1500. Justin and Jennifer just believe that by taking the issue of budget right out of the equation, they can focus on the weddings themselves, and not the selling. "We would rather work with brides who appreciate our ongoing efforts to satisfy their every request. We welcome all brides to enjoy a coffee with us and discuss their details."
Latte style
Because of their pricing and fast growth the wedding industry in the local area, Latte Productions Photography is attracting couples of every different style, "from budget brides who see the value in our work, to more modern brides who expect and anticipate paying several times our prices but have chosen us for our quality and attention to details."
One thing seems to be common among all of Latte's brides, and that's that they love the full day coverage, which often equates to twelve hours of shooting, or more!
Sandra Sousa was married on August 20th, 2011 and was thrilled with her wedding coverage, "After meeting with Latte we loved the pictures they showed us from other weddings they did. They made us feel comfortable and we felt they cared about what we wanted. They captured my whole day and more, even the little things I was not expected to be captured. They were worth every penny!"
But shooting for that long doesn't mean that you're going to be overwhelmed with photos. Latte Productions shoots in a fun and relaxed style, capturing all of the natural moments as well as more relaxed, suggested poses.
And they are very careful not to take away from the moment, not drawing attention to themselves and keeping the focus on the couple.
Justin and Jennifer told us, "Latte's shooting style is candid and photojournalistic to capture the true emotions on your wedding day. No one generally likes having a camera in their face, especially for the entire day/night…" So, this photography couple strives to achieve the best possible photos by placing themselves at the right places at the right times, by shooting quickly, and by involving themselves in as much of the wedding itself as they can to help make sure they get the full picture. " No one has the time on their wedding day to pose for mock-ups and fake shots of the cake cutting, the dances, and all the other wonderful moments of their big day, so Latte says they make sure they are a part of your memorable events as they unfold. "That's just one of the reasons why our package spans the length of the preparation through to late night, so we can be there to capture and share your moments whenever they occur. We believe the bridal prep helps emphasize the importance of the big day, it would not be the same if the first photos of our bride were of her in the dress… as if to say “it’s just another day”
Excitement can be contagious
Justin and Jennifer say that every wedding is unique and every couple brings their own distinctive style and taste to the table. They find it easy to get caught up in the excitement of the wedding and their clients. "We are as excited as our couples are... We use that excitement and emotion to effectively capture their wedding."
Their excitement for what they do might be part of the reason why so many of their couples stay in touch after their wedding day. Justin and Jennifer told us that they often hear positive feedback long after the wedding day is over.
Jessica Nica booked Latte for her August 2011 wedding. She says she would "100 percent" recommend them to anyone getting married, "Everything was fantastic. They were very friendly the first time that I met them and were always available to answer my questions. And most importantly they were always very fast to respond to my inquiries. They exceeded our expectations with every aspect of their services and we couldn't have asked for anything better.
Newlyweds know
Because they were recently married themselves, Justin and Jennifer say it's easy for them to connect with their clients. "When we sit with them and discuss their details, we realize that photography is only one more item on the wedding to-do list and that not asking the right questions can lead to some undesired results... We take our own experiences in front of the camera and work them into our questions for the brides and grooms to ensure they get the type of coverage they want and that our approach is clear and flexible to their needs."
Since Latte shoots over fifty weddings per year (a wedding a weekend) they have much more experience than the photographer who handles twenty weddings or less. This means that they've seen it all and can handle any situation that arises.
Latte's approach to photography packages & prices
When it comes to products and packages, Latte takes their own approach. First of all, by strictly shooting weddings, not just any sort of event or discipline, they've made it easier on themselves to offer more options for less. "We have taken all of our best offerings and provided them in one feature package." A complete, no-photo-limit, all day & night package, is the result, which includes: an engagement session, two photographers, processing of all photos taken, a wide array of editing options, photobook, slideshow, web-gallery, and all photos made available to the client without markings on DVDs.
Latte charges $1500 for their package and brides don't have to worry about hidden fees or costs {unless their wedding is a considerable distance outside the region, to which a moderate travel fee would apply}.
Couples can do anything they like with their photos, there are no limitations and the sky truly is the limit. Most of the weddings Latte shoots results in three to five DVDs full of approximately 1000 plus photos.
Kyla liked how quickly Latte got their photos back after her engagement session. "It was within a week, just like Justin promised!" She told us that Justin was always easy to get a hold of. "He responds within minutes most times. Very reassuring!"
Justin and Jennifer say that the couples hiring them want their entire wedding day covered, they want to be able to re-live and share their memories with family, friends, and one another. "Our couples know that special moments won’t just fall into a six to eight hour timeframe and that the only way to truly tell your whole day's story is to be there or the entire time."
Today's brides are looking for vendors who can problem solve on the spot, exceed their mandate in the name of going above and beyond, and have an appreciation for how the market has evolved, all while being able to remain ahead of the curve. It's important to make sure your chosen photography firm is current, enthusiastic, and looking out for your best interests... something you will not find in a traditional photography firm. Latte Productions Photography has worked very hard to develop and re-define their more modern approach to wedding photography. Being one of the regions fastest booking photography firms, it's obvious that their couples not only realize the advantages to involving Latte's style in their big days plans... they wouldn't have it any other way!

Ashley and Tyson Canning said that were so impressed with Latte that they have already recommended them to two couples since their June 2011 wedding, " We loved that it was very natural and comfortable. If we had an idea of a photo, they would strategically place us in the perfect lighting and position possible to make it an excellent photo. Our experience was incredible. Meeting with Justin, we felt that he was very professional and talented with his work. By looking at their work, you can see for yourself that they were perfect for my wedding as well as a number of other couples."

In other words...
"We just wanted to thank you both for a wonderful experience and for providing us with photos we will be enjoying for years to come. You guys found a way to capture us in a way we can only describe as 'how we were feeling at that moment in time', and we think that's a tremendous feat as neither of us usually enjoy having our photos taken, let alone printing hundreds of our own photos and handing them out to family and friends with great pride in our big day. We feel very lucky to have found you both and have already recommended your services to several of our friends, some of whom we understand are now clients with your firm, good stuff! We appreciate that you enhanced our day and didn't take the spotlight away from us, that you not only were non-disruptive... but also helped keep things moving smoothly with the family formals and tracking time. We love that you both were very friendly and outgoing to our guests and that you went out of your way to see our special requests met. We also liked that you both professionally dressed the part with your black outfits and name tags, just when we thought you guys were off shooting someone else we'd see a faint flash in the distance and realize we just got another candid moment... priceless. You both were at my salon taking prep shots before Cory even woke up that morning and you were still shooting well after all of the key moments, which ended up being a very late night, amazing commitment... and you were right, the photos really do tell a more complete story because of that. At first we doubted the impact of having coverage for the whole day, and now we could never imagine pulling our wedding off without it. We both wish you the very best for the coming years." - Stephanie & Cory, July 24, 2010
