 A big, fabulous Serbian wedding { reality wedding story }

Dali & Nenad | May 14th, 2011 :: Serbian Monastery in Milton & Trinity Hall in Kitchener

Photography by Alicia Riley Photography (www.aliciariley.com)

It was July 18th, 2010 when Nenad took Dali to the 51st Floor (180 Panorama, set atop the 51st floor of the Manulife Centre) on Bay and Bloor. “I thought he was going to ask me and since I couldn’t wait I asked him and he pretended not to know what I was talking about.” The couple finished dinner, Nenad got the cheque, and then he invited her out to check out the view once more. By this time, she’d given up on getting a proposal that night. “But once we were on the balcony, he took out the ring and asked if I would marry him.”

Brennan & Dave: An eco-friendly affair with rustic, Fall flair

September 25, 2009 ::Grey Silo Golf Course, Waterloo

Story idea submitted by bride and groom, written by Carla @ The Ring

Dave and Brennan almost missed the first encounter that would be the beginning of a lifelong love for both of them. Dave was in his final year of high school, and was just about to drop the class that Brennan walked into one day. But once Dave laid eyes on Brennan, he knew he'd be keeping the class, if only so that he could see Brennan every day. Dave became a true believer in love at first sight.

But their luck with timing didn't last forever, and before they had a chance to fall in love, Dave went off to University while Brennan took a year off to travel across Canada. It wasn't until Brennan returned that they ran into each other again. As Brennan began sharing her travel stories, Dave - even after all that time - became a captive audience. He got her number and called the very next day. “We’ve been together ever since!” says Brennan. They celebrated their nine year anniversary a month before their wedding day.

Laura & Steve: Leather, steel, glass & grass - an eclectic wedding day

September 12, 2009 :: Hauser Hall, Heidelberg

Story by Carla @ The Ring

Several years before Laura Wombwell and Steven Arkle spoke their wedding vows to one another, they both worked in the cast of a renaissance festival in Milton. During their last year working there, while Steve played Rasputin, the Mad Russian, and Laura played a button seller, push from a friend (who ended up being their wedding emcee!) got the two dating, beginning what they assumed was just a summer fling. But, it didn't quite work out that way.

Simple pleasures for a Fall affair

On October 17, 2009, Renee Hober married David Rose in an afternoon ceremony at St. Aloysius Church in Kitchener. Anne Edgar of Anne Edgar Photography was there to capture it all. The reception followed at Whistle Bear Golf Club, and while the venue was beautiful, the gowns were gorgeous, the flowers flourished and the cake was delicious, Anne told us that it was the simple moments throughout the day that made this wedding stand out.

Wedding in sunny California was powered by love

August 15, 2009 :: Pasadena, California

Story by Carla @ The Ring

The summer of 2009 was a whirlwind of weddings that I went to and was a part of - four beautiful weddings of eight amazing friends of mine and Tony's (that's my boyfriend, in case you were wondering). I've always loved weddings, even before I found this dream job where I get to write about them, so even though it was super busy, it was also really fun. It's even more fun now that I'm on the inside of the wedding industry because I get to take note of all of the moments, details and unique ways that people personalize their weddings.

Crystal & Brandon: Winter Wedding Charm

March 15 2008 :: Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Brantford
& Concorida Club, Kitchener

Brandon Dmytryshyn proposed to Crystal Kalcsa in August of 2007. Brandon and Crystal had taken a walk down the beach at sunset, only to return to a fairytale scene set up by their close friends—a blanket laid on the beach surrounded by burning candles and a bottle of wine. “We drank strawberry wine, watched shooting stars and then Brandon proposed… Of course I said yes,” explained Crystal. She says that she and Brandon share a deep love and respect for each other and for God.

Like so many couples today, Tyla Fullerton and Brian Sweet met on the internet. Brian said one of the things he loved most about Tyla was that she is a strong intelligent woman “who cares deeply about her family and community.” For Tyla, it was about “Brian’s sense of humour and his optimism. He can always make me laugh and he keeps me grounded.”
