There likely isn’t a bride or wedding vendor in town that would challenge the reputation of the Walper Hotel, or the elegance of a wedding that takes place within it.

To most in the community, the Walper Hotel is both a Kitchener landmark and the epitome of elegance, class, and local history. Within its doors, you’ll find many banquet room options, eighty-two guest rooms, an on-site restaurant, a historical pub, and more than one hundred and twenty years of experience in catering to royalty, celebrities, government – and of course many, many brides.

We selected the Walper Hotel for its popularity, outstanding customer service, rich architecture, top quality catering, downtown location, and of course, for its renowned Crystal Ballroom. Let us explain…

Experiencing the Walper Hotel in person…

The Walper Hotel has been operating as a Hotel since 1893 when it opened as the first commercial building in downtown Kitchener.  Today, the hotel hosts fifty plus weddings per year, and accommodates all types of weddings, particularly couples who are looking for an elegant and classy wedding.  Says Sales Manager, Jennifer Becker, “The Walper Hotel encompasses so much rich history and character that it can work with any trend. We’ve seen it done up to the nines and we’ve seen it done simply and elegantly and each way turns out beautiful.”

With over a century of experience hosting guests from all over the world, it’s no surprise that The Walper Hotel is committed to ensuring your day is a special one. “Our staff has hands on experience with the entire process from booking to day of coordination. We recognize the importance of this special day and take the time to be a part as actively as our brides and grooms wish. We value the relationships we build with our couples and have a special place for each and every wedding that takes place in this hotel.”

Past bride and groom Natalie and Alun Hughes add, “The entire wedding day was everything we dreamed of.  The weather was beautiful, the venue was prepared exactly as we had discussed, the food was incredible, and our guests were very happy and pleased with the service. The historic ballroom was something we couldn’t find at other venues, and the room packages for our family was a great addition for our out of town guests.”

Working with the Walper team

Interviewing the Walper Hotel meant meeting several members of management and staff. As they walked us through the hotel itself (and the options they offer), it became very obvious very quickly that the Walper team loves what they do, and that they’re very very good at it. “Seeing our brides and grooms enjoying every moment of their special day, building strong relationships with our couples and assisting them in building happy memories, going beyond in delivering exceptional services and value to our clients, lots of smiles and laughter – all this fires us up and brings us back to work every morning.”

Liz Weber says the entire Walper team helped make her wedding day perfect. “It has absolutely everything we wanted! We loved feeling that everyone was there to make our wedding special, from the wait staff to the front desk staff, to our wedding coordinator. The service and flexibility offered couldn’t be found elsewhere and you could really tailor everything to be exactly how you wanted it! I contacted some OTHER places that took FOREVER to respond to any questions… The Walper had the service and is a very classy venue.”

Good reasons to choose the Walper Hotel

Adding the Walper Hotel name to your invitations is something many brides would love to do. They offer facilities for an intimate ceremony to receptions with 200 wedding guests, in a variety of different banquet and hotel rooms.

At incredible prices, the Walper Hotel hosts ceremonies, receptions, rehearsal dinners, showers, Sunday brunches, and of course, accommodations for in and out of town guests – all with the reputation for service and style that gives you the confidence to know that you’ll be well taken care of.

The Walper is known for its incredible menu, offering a fabulous selection to suit any couple’s wedding day vision. In fact, Chef Terry, the hotel’s Executive Chef, has competed on Top Chef Canada!

Ballrooms, spaces & wedding styles

The Ring’s favourite space at the Walper Hotel is easily the Victorian-style Crystal Ballroom. Boasting nearly thirteen foot ceilings and eleven crystal chandeliers, the Crystal Ballroom is most popularly used for wedding ceremonies and receptions, with hardwood floors, Victorian fixtures, original crown molding and many, many windows. It seats up to 200 people.

Natalie and Alun Hughes say the ballroom offered the perfect atmosphere for their June 30th wedding day, “The ballroom was beautiful, with the chandeliers, large windows, hardwood floors… and the adjoining lobby was beautiful for our cocktail hour. We loved that we didn’t have to over decorate to make the room feel beautiful! It was a pretty neutral colour palette with hard wood floors (instead of ugly carpet) which was great for us! We didn’t want our wedding colours to compete with what was in the room. Other venues don’t offer a historic ballroom like this.”

The Oak Room is also wonderful for weddings or events, and is often a great choice for a ceremony, rehearsal or post-wedding brunch. It is typically set-up chapel-style with seating facing towards an altar set against King Street windows. The Oak Room can seat up to forty guests.

The LaFontaine Room seats up to 80 people and can also incorporate a variety of wedding styles and colours. As the most private of the event spaces, it’s ideal for mid-sized weddings and events.

Tying in with the old world charm and Victorian décor the Queen Elizabeth Suite (seats up to 64 people) and the Barrister’s Lounge (seats up to 20 people for dinner or 50 people for cocktails) are great options for smaller, more intimate events that will have the class you expect from the Walper Hotel.

Accommodations…

After sharing the last dance, the bride and groom most often retire to their honeymoon suite, sleeping on the same floors that royalty such as the Queen Mother and icons such as Eleanor Roosevelt have slept in years and decades before.

Couples can also block off rooms for their guests for the wedding night, or, for the entire wedding weekend. With eighty-two rooms, each comes with high-speed wireless internet, new flat screen TV’s and individually controlled heat/AC units. Guest rooms start at $109 per night.
