Recent bride and groom, Tina and Mark, planned their dream wedding of understated elegance at Delta Waterloo this past fall. With a little bit of help from some of Kitchener-Waterloo’s best wedding professionals, their wedding was the dream they had envisioned.
Married couple: Tina Naugler and Mark Steffen
Wedding Date: October 26, 2019
Ceremony & Reception Location: Delta Hotels Waterloo (www.marriott.com/ykfdw) “We choose the Delta Waterloo as our wedding venue because we had a lot of guests with young kids coming from out of town, so we wanted the option for them to stay and not have to worry about driving home with kids late at night.” – T&M
Wedding Colour Palette: Juniper, silver, gold, and ivory
Wedding Theme: “Our theme was ‘Classic understated elegance” – T
Wedding Flowers: “I did all of the bouquets as well as the boutonnieres. I chose white roses and eucalyptus.” – T
Wedding Décor: Servers with a Smile (serverswithasmile.ca) “They brought in the table cloths and backdrops for the head table and the ceremony. I did the table decorations and the decorations for the ceremony myself.” – T
Fav décor element: “The lanterns and the Edison bulb backdrop” – T
DIY: “We took on lots of DIY! We did the table decorations the ceremony decorations, the bouquet and boutonnieres and the wedding favors” – T
Wedding Invitations/stationery: Vistaprint
Wedding Cake: “My sister, Michelle Hooper, is a Chef and she made our wedding cake for us. It was a lemon gluten-free/dairy-free cake with hand made roses.” – T
Wedding favours: “For our wedding favours I painted small pots of basil and oregano sprouts and added glittery love picks and wrapped them in tulle bags. They had recycled paper disks filled with wildflower seeds that can be planted in the spring and the paper will biodegrade and the seeds will sprout flowers. My 3-year-old son and I made them together.” – T
Groomsmen and Groom’s attire: “Our best man wore a black suit with a paisley patterned juniper tie and a juniper pocket square. Mark wore a Calvin Klein black suit from Stars (starsmenshops.com) with a paisley patterned black and ivory coloured tie and an ivory pocket square.” – T
Bridesmaids attire and accessories: “My bridesmaids wore a high necked short Juniper dress with a long skirt over top from David’s bridal (davidsbridal.ca) with an added embellished sash belt that was pulled apart and attached to the dress itself.” – T
DJ: “Rob Latour and Ed Latour who were also friends of the family.”- T
Hair & make-up: Hair was done by Pioneer Hair Works (pioneerhairworks.com) in Kitchener.
Wedding Photographer: Photography from the soul (photographyfromthesoul.ca) “I google-searched local photographers and met with some of them. I chose Jenifer because she understood the look and feel of the images that I was interested in. She has the same sense of style that I was looking for. I really enjoyed the creativity in the photos and the fact that she was willing to be brave with some of the images. Most people thought I was nuts to want shots taken in the hotel bathroom, but the design of the bathroom was perfect for the style of pictures I wanted and she expressed no hesitation. She understood the importance of the details. In the end, I was more than impressed with the photos she took, the care and consideration she used was very much appreciated. She also dropped off a beautiful memory box that was beautifully wrapped with a memory stick to match with our names in gold foil, prints and an enlarged print from our day.” – T
Biggest challenge: “The planning of the wedding was incredibly easy and was planned almost in one day. The biggest issue I had was probably finding shoes for my daughter who was the flower girl!” – T
Fav wedding memory: “The ceremony was my favourite memory. That was the whole point of the celebration, to marry the father of my children and my dearest friend.” – T
Advice from one couple to another: “It’s not about the wedding. The big dress and flowers are nothing in the end. They are just things. It’s ultimately about the marriage. The commitment between two people to stay true to each other and support each other when life becomes hard. To be there as a support, a shoulder, a cheerleader, and a reality check. Marriage is about finding someone who can be there for you and who you can be there for as well. Even when you might fight, you have to be able to say ‘I may be angry at you right now, but I would rather be angry with you now and know that we can work it out, rather than share my life with anyone else’. That is what marriage is.” – T&M
