Reviewing Cambridge wedding and event venue, Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge
Since first opening its doors in 1969, the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge has been offering guests small town charm and full event services. Located halfway between Toronto and London, the Inn can accommodate large celebrations of up to 300 guests for a sit down dinner or an intimate gathering with family and friends. Whether you need a location for a ceremony, reception or a place to accommodate your overnight guests, the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge has it all.
Staff at the Ring sat down with Tracey Penney, catering sales manager at the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge to learn more about what this venue has to offer couples.
The Team at Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge…
Tracey joined the Sunbridge team in 2002 and has been coordinating weddings at the venue since 2009. Tracey has a diploma in Travel and Tourism, and has been with the hotel for fifteen years – first as a server, then as a banquet manager and now the person who handles all the wedding bookings at the venue.
John Trevor is the banquet manager who has worked at the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge since 2017. John comes to Sunbridge with a wealth of knowledge in the Wedding Industry. He has worked at the Walper and Holiday Inn Kitchener in banquets and also as the Wedding Planner at the Holiday Inn Kitchener.
Together, Tracey and John have been involved in wedding coordination since he first joined the team doing setups, serving and tear downs. “His role has changed over time too,” admits Tracey. “He’s very hands on during the event and has a creative flair that our brides love.”
Chef, Lisa Jamieson, has been with the hotel for years, starting at the Kitchener location in 1995 and now cooking up incredible menus at Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge.
About the services offered…
On the day of the wedding, Tracey is behind the scenes to ensure everything goes smoothly. If she’s not available, John is there. “I always put brides at ease with my calming personality,” she admits. She promises her clients a perfect reception. “I try to make the whole experience as stress free as possible.”
For Tracey, no two weddings are the same and she finds this inspiring. The venue averages 15 to 25 weddings per year. Offering couples the flexibility to create their own unique experience, Tracey helps couples with all the planning details from start to finish.
“The main reason we chose the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge is the location and the staff,” says Alicia Kincaid. “It is located very close to the highway for traveling guests which we had quite a few of, plus it is close to great photo spots.” Alicia admits that the staff were quick in answering questions and the packages were easy to understand, as well as accommodating. “Also super handy that guests could walk to their hotel room after a night of partying.”
Marina Mekhail looked at a lot of venues, including the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge. For support and to help make a final decision, she had her fiancé and her sister Shera with her. “We actually went to the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge before all the other venues,” says Marina. “It is a perfect location and Tracey was definitely the warmest person we met. What we loved most about Tracey is that she was not pushy and she was great at helping us envision what the hall would really look like. Another main reason we chose the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge is because the price was actually reasonable in this very costly wedding business.”
Shera Mekhail says her sister, Marina also choose the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge for the wedding because the Inn was located close to the church.
While the location and prices were both reasons why she choose the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge, Shera also says Tracey was another big reason. “Tracey is a huge selling point for the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge. She is the sweetest, most flexible person we met in the process. She took the time to meet with us multiple times to make sure we all felt comfortable,” says Shera. “She was great at giving advice for where money was better spent and how to make the room and wedding experience work for us. She went above and beyond in making us feel confident the day would go well!”
Marina agrees with her sister’s opinion of Tracey. “Her team was so hard working and amazing. We were having doubts and wanted to show the place to our family, so every time we were in the neighbourhood someone would walk us through everything again just to show our parents and siblings. Tracey told us that they had just purchased decorations and helped us envision the perfect venue for our reception,” she says. “Every step of the planning she was there to support us. She helped us make decisions like where everything would be set up, what the best foods were and even let us bring in our own authentic traditional Egyptian desserts for the reception. It was such a great experience working with Tracey and the team at the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge.”
Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge wedding packages…
The venue offers all-inclusive packages that are competitively priced and according to Tracey, couples love the one price because it’s easy to fit into their budget. The Stay Blissful, Stay You all-inclusive package is $95 per person (including taxes and gratuity), with a minimum of 100 guests needed.
“We found the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge’s prices to be in line with other similar venues,” says Alicia. “Their packages were flexible and customizable so we were able to get exactly what we wanted within budget (actually slightly under budget). We were thrilled that so much was included in the package. We added very few decorations to the wedding as the package included a lot to make it beautiful.”
According to Shera, the prices were great. They were easy to calculate and the menu items were all delicious.
“We priced about ten other places in the area and the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge was definitely the best value,” says Shera.
Several services are included in the wedding package such as complimentary consultation with wedding experts, a complimentary dinner for two, featuring selected items from your chosen menu, and professional banquet staff to execute every detail to perfection.
“Every interaction I had with Tracey was great! She replied to my emails very fast and always made time for us to meet. She coordinated with our other vendors very well so everything was arranged. On the day of the wedding she was on top of everything and made sure all went according to plan,” Alicia says.
“It is an affordable location for a gorgeous wedding,” Tracey says. While most weddings held at the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge are more traditional styled weddings, the venue itself is a blank slate that can accommodate any wedding style or theme.
“The Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge was open to providing any style of wedding. Tracey has done so many weddings – she had a lot of suggestions and options. I had an unconventional centerpiece idea and they were all over it and took care of putting them together exactly as I had envisioned them,” explains Alicia.
Shera liked the space because it was intimate, but not too small. She describes the hall as warm and inviting that is set up beautifully for weddings.
“The Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge had a great atmosphere with all the hard working people,” says Marina. “We loved how simple it was and how dolled up the place could become. It was just the right size to have a decent sized wedding and it looked amazing when decorated and with the right lighting. It was amazing to see such a simple adorable place be transformed to a dream wedding.”
For the bride and groom, the venue offers complimentary guestroom including early check-in and late check-out, breakfast for two served in your room or in the Fireside Grill. Wedding Shower packages and gift opening brunch are also available.
“My sister is the lady from 27 dresses so she has been part of a lot of weddings and she told me before I started planning that the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge was cute, simple, affordable, and had amazing food,” says Marina.
“The prices were so with in our budget it was ridiculous. We got so much bang for our buck. The amazing thing about the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge is their pricing per plate and drinks. We really benefited with the fact that the price of the hall included linens and decorations, well basic center pieces and linens. My deal breaker was if we could not set up a beautiful and “Wow” backdrop,” she explains, adding that the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge’s preferred decorator pulled together an amazing back drop that pulled everything together for their budget.
When asked what her favourite memory was from the Sunbridge Hotel and Conference Centre Cambridge, Alicia says it how smoothly everything went. “I tend to stress if things don’t go according to plan but that never happened! The staff always made sure my husband and I were catered to, that guests had drinks and food in hand promptly and that the room was cleaned of glasses and garbage quickly. My guests were so thrilled with the service they received from wait and bar staff.”
Shera’s favourite memory was going for a swim the night before the wedding and getting some time to relax before the big day. “We were able to see the hall set up and ready as well, which was great and again made us feel comfortable about the how smoothly the day would go.”
“My favourite memory once the process began was going to see that New Year’s Eve wedding set up the night before,” says Marina. “It was probably one of the highlights of wedding planning because the hall was just so memorizing, romantic, and perfect. That’s when we knew we had to have our wedding there. The next best memory was seeing the hall the night before the wedding. It was set up perfectly and was everything I dreamed it would be. It took my breath away and literally made me dance because I was so excited for the day to come,” she says.
