Rene + Marty wanted a gorgeous rustic dream wedding day. And when they saw Steckle Heritage Farm, they knew they’d have it. They told The Ring, “It was the first site we looked at and it was also our last. Steckle Farm was absolutely beautiful, everything from the grounds to the buildings. We wanted something that was rustic yet beautiful and simple.” So with the help of Melina Dawson from Forever I Do Wedding Planning & Coordination (foreverido.ca) to take care of some of the many wedding details, and a gorgeous location, Rene + Marty had their ceremony in their apple orchard and reception in the barn. “We went very simple on the decorating. What else can you do to make an apple orchard look more beautiful than it already is? And the barn came with beautiful twinkle lights strung everywhere….it was incredible.”
BRIDE & GROOM: Rene & Marty Long
WEDDING DATE: September 3, 2016
PHOTOGRAPHER: Zac Jolliffe, from Zac Jolliffe Photography (zacjolliffe.com) “He knew his way around Steckle Farm and he took stunning photos. He was very laid back and comfortable to work with.” – R+M
THEME: Rustic, lot’s of baby’s breath, mason jars & burlap!
DÉCOR: “We had beautiful apple baskets full of babies breath, mason jars filled with lights & babies breath, wood slabs, burlap runners, rustic doors & added red napkins, red roses for my bouquet, red shoes and because Marty is a fire fighter we had an antique fire truck!” – R+M
FLOWERS: Kim from Greenway Blooming Centre (kitchenergardencentre.ca) “Kim was amazing at designing anything with flowers. She was able to put together large apple baskets full of baby’s breath, my bouquet of red roses, all corsages and boutonnieres.” – Rene
DIY: “My favorite piece of decor was something my husband put together for me. We borrowed two old wood doors and he was able to make this beautiful backdrop for our ceremony. Marty had a large piece of Black walnut attached above the doors and had a beautiful saying engraved into it (which was a total surprise and the first time I saw it was walking down the aisle!)” – Rene
MUSIC: “We hired a good old rock & roll band for our entertainment, a local band of ours, ‘The Point’. Their music was something that kept our friends on their feet!” – R+M
WEDDING PLANNER: Melina Dawson from Forever I Do Wedding Planning & Coordination (foreverido.ca). “She was the person who calmed me during some rough times and she kept me on schedule and on budget. She is extremely knowledgeable with local vendors and ones that met our needs. She coordinated during our wedding day and had everything run smoothly. She also did all the set up that morning and made everything look perfect.” – Rene
BIGGEST CHALLENGE:“Trying to make everyone happy. Everyone tells you, “it’s YOUR day, so you make YOUR day how you want it”. Well, although it is YOUR day, your guests are the ones who bring the fun to the evening as well. I was always worrying about food, entertainment, how accessible the venue was, transportation for our guests, etc. I’d start to add little things here and there which would increase our budget. I found our wedding day getting larger and more detailed than I had hoped, but in the end everything was perfect!” – Rene
ADVICE FROM ONE BRIDE TO ANOTHER: Try to sit back for a few moments to take it all in. That special day you spent a year planning flies by.
