Thomas and Mackenzie wanted a rustic, romantic wedding day. They achieved this by choosing a gorgeous, rustic venue – Bellamere Winery – and a colour scheme of oxblood (dark red with purple and brown undertones), succulent greens, light pinks and cream colours.
“The inspiration was a little bit of Pinterest and a lot to do with loving the country!” So with a budget of 25,000 and a 80+ person guest list, their day was just what they’d envisioned, and it was captured in detail by Have Heart Photography (haveheartphotography.ca). Here’s their story…
Bride & Groom: Mackenzie + Thomas
Wedding Date: August 6th, 2017
Location: Bellamere Winery (bellamere.com) “We were looking for a very romantic and rustic atmosphere, and Bellamere had that. The venue itself is beautiful; with cobblestone floors and wheat in the walls in the front room, to the gorgeous landscaping, it completely exceeded our expectations. Plus Bellamere offers a lot of services on site, which made planning much easier. Probably one of the biggest plus’ that Bellamere offers is a wedding planner. We had Dee, and she was/is my hero! Without a doubt, if she wasn’t helping me I would have been reduced to a puddle of tears on a number of different occasions. Our meetings often turned into long visits with a lot of giggles; she is an absolute lifesaver and complete sweetheart!”
The Proposal: “Tom and I met at work. In August 2015, Tom and I planned a day long hiking trip up in Tobermory. We left very early in the morning to get to the park just before 7am. We were hiking for just over 2 hrs when we spotted a cliff over looking the water. We climbed up and just enjoyed the view. I turned around and Tom was on his knee with the ring. It was very intimate and so personal.”
# Guests: 81
Photographer: Have Heart Photography (haveheartphotography.ca) “We found them through a positive referral, I then began following them on instagram and facebook and just fell in love with their work.”
“We chose Have Heart because of how beautiful the shots were, and how relaxed all the couples looked in the photos. Working with Ashley and Jason was amazing! They are both so talented and both so sweet, it was really easy working with both of them. My favourite part of the photos, is just how well they captured the day, all of the photos are so breathtaking.”
Florals: SpringHill Flowers (springhillflowers.com) “Mary and her team are so incredible, they really make you feel like family there. We met with Mary and had a very detailed meeting where we told her our expectations, colours we liked and the overall feel we wanted; from there Mary and her team created the most beautiful and elegant florals.”
Decor: Sasha, owner of Past Present Pretty “Sasha did all of the decor, she came along to one of the florist meetings and one of the meetings with Bellamere. From there I gave her complete control over the decorations! Sasha is a DIY queen and has a talent of making anything beautiful. By far my favorite decor element was the bridal table and the background, it was so unique!”
Cake: Sweets N’ Treats (facebook.com/sweetsntreatsdebbie) “Our cake was one of my favourite aspects- Sweets’n Treats created a ‘piñata cake’. Which is a chocolate shell and filled inside the shell was chocolate bark and chocolate covered pretzels. So, instead of cutting the cake, we smashed it with a bedazzled hammer! It was a lot of fun and a surprise for everyone!”
Wedding Favours: Donations in lieu of favours to the Milton and Oakville Humane Society (omhs.ca). “They in turn provided us with place cards that had pictures of all of their adoptable animals! Along with the place cards, they also provided a “kissing jar” so instead of clinking glasses, people made a donation amount of their choice to us kiss!”
Groom/Groomsmen Attire: Tiptop Tailers (tiptoptailors.ca) “It was very simple. We didn’t want the guys getting overheated in the August heat, so we chose to have them wear grey dress pants, dress shirt, red suspenders and bowtie for the groomsmen/bridesmen and a red tie and vest for the groom!”
Bride’s Dress: Petrov Bridal in London (petrovbridal.com). “The overall experience was fantastic. I also got my hairpiece from there. For the veil, I actually bought it off Amazon.com, which was a great surprise and an amazing price!”
Bridesmaid Attire: Bridesmaids wore an ivory sequin dress from Juniper Dress Boutique (juniperdress.ca) in London. “I loved how fresh and rich the ladies looked in the ivory dresses with the dark red in the bouquets.”
DJ: DJ Alpha Productions (djalpha.ca) “Bellamere works with them on a regular basis and because they have all of their speakers hooked up already it made the most sense. We also got a chance to meet them at Bellamere’s food tasting night. We had DJ Jay Scott, who was so amazing! We met with him once and we went over songs we definitely wanted and songs that were a definite no. From start to finish, DJ Jay Scott was incredible. He assisted with the Disney music I wanted for the ceremony and made it all mix together without any gaps of silence, and he had people on the dance floor all night!”
Hair and Makeup: Selah Vie Hair and Makeup Artistry (selahvie.ca) “The entire team is awesome and very helpful. I loved that they came right to the house and got everyone ready there. It created less stress and made it so much easier the morning of! They are very talented, everyone’s hair and makeup lasted all night!”
We found that the biggest stressors were often things that we had zero control over, like wanting to please everyone and trying to accommodate as best we can.
But at the end of the day we did the best we could do and we had an amazing team that we trusted in making the day truly magical. We also had a huge support system, so anytime we were feeling overwhelmed our family and friends stepped in and helped us.
Favourite Memory: “The best memory was the first look. Ashley and Jason (from Have Heart Photography) wanted the moment to just be between Tom and I, so they had everyone in the bridal party wait in a clearing just off to the side. For those few minuets it was so nice to just share that moment with each other.”
Advice From One Bride to Another: “Don’t make mountains out of ant hills. The entire wedding planning phase can be very hectic and I was in the mind set of if I have the expectation that nothing will go wrong, then something will go wrong. So I really just rolled with the punches and took whatever this experience threw at me. Also during the wedding, the day and night goes by so very, very fast. Make sure as a bride and groom you take at least 5 min to yourselves, enjoy your day and really try to embrace all the planning that has gone into the day.”
