Revival House is romantically chic with a touch of modern hipster
Whether it’s the cathedral ceilings, stained glass windows, spectacular food, extensive drink selection or the heritage and ambience, Revival House is downtown Stratford’s hippest VIP hideaway. From the chill upstairs gastrolounge to the historic sanctuary, Revival House is a unique and chic venue to host your ceremony and reception.
Staff at The Ring sat down with Rob Wigan, Owner of Revival House in Stratford to find out what couples can expect from this romantically chic venue.
The history behind the Revival House…
As with many successful businesses, the idea behind the business is often thought of by an entrepreneur figuring out a need that isn’t being met. Rob Wigan saw the need for a ‘boutique’ venue after attending and working many weddings in the region. The result was Revival House – an elevated dining experience that offers couples everything they need under one roof.
The business was bought in January 2015. After extensive renovations, it was officially open for business in July. Although the business has only been open for a short time, Rob and his previous business partner had been building the concept of the business for years. With the exceptional services, gorgeous venue, and exquisite food, it’s not surprising that dates for 2021 and 2022 are filling up quickly.
“Revival House is more than just a gorgeous and unique wedding venue. We have also built a reputation for having outstanding food and service,” Rob tells us.
When you book your wedding at Revival House, you’ll meet with one of their in-house Special Events Coordinators. Your personal event coordinator will show the space, and help with the planning and executing of your wedding. They’ll also offer advice and experience when selecting third party vendors or accommodations. In fact, they’re with you there from the beginning to the end to ensure everything goes smoothly.
Cathy and Derek Stephens chose Revival House for their wedding because of the gorgeous downtown location that was classy and offered a real ‘church’, restaurant, bar and dance floor, but they were very impressed with the overall experience. Cathy admits that the Revival House team was very accommodating and took care of every desire and responded to text and emails in a very polite and prompt fashion.
Meet the Revival House team…
Prior to opening Revival House, Rob had spent 10+ years working in the Toronto hospitality industry. From managing restaurants, to leading culinary teams as a head chef to catering special events. Locally, Rob is known as Stratford’s ‘DJ Wigs’ and was has entertained at countless weddings and celebrations.
Jay Love, Revival House’s Executive Chef attended Stratford Chefs School in 1994. He has worked at many great restaurants throughout Stratford as well as owning and operating two of his own restaurants before starting at Revival House in 2020. Jay assists in meetings with clients to help them select their menus and is great at working within a budget to provide that extra touch to your menu.
Revival House’s 3 Biggest Selling Points….
1. The space
The building Revival House occupies was formerly a church, so it has a very classic feel with a modern twist. The main dining room holds 150 people and the Belfry which can hold 73 people is perfect for cocktail hours or more intimate wedding. The banquette room offers a comfortable space that can be used for creative floor plans.
2. The food
Creative, beautiful and delicious, Executive Chef, Jay Love creates beautifully plated food that is almost too beautiful to eat. All food is made in-house and Chef Jay utilizes fresh and local produce on the menu.
3. The staff
As many couples know, the vendors and people you hire when planning your wedding is an important decision. The team at Revival House build a friendship with clients to ensure they always feel comfortable asking questions about the venue, food or services. The serving staff are well trained and understand they have a huge role to play on the day of the wedding. From the chef and kitchen staff, floral designer, DJ, decorator and special events coordinator, the team ensures that all guests are in good hands.
About the venue…
One of the most popular features at Revival House is the balcony, which holds up to 16 people and overlooks the entire main dining room. Imagine Juliet leaning over her balcony as Romeo entices her with sweet words from the popular Shakespearean play.
“With the Juliet balcony feel, it is always sure to make our brides feel special,” explains Rob, who believes brides visiting Revival House because the venue offers something different. “We are creating that unique space that she wants, but has the traditional feel that grandparents are going to be pleased with.”
For anyone considering Revival House, Rob encourages them to come and visit, since the pictures don’t do the venue justice. “Once they see the space and move around in it I like to sit and hear more about what they want and see if or how we can help.” When Cathy and Stephen met with their Revival House Special Events Coordinator, they were impressed with how accommodating and flexible the venue and services were.
“It was totally open ended,” admits Cathy. “We could custom make any wedding ideas possible! They could accommodate whatever we desired!”
The entire team at Revival House ensures every last detail is planned before the wedding day, so couples can enjoy their day. Your Special Events Coordinator is there from first thing in the morning to ensure everything is ready and they remain throughout the day and until the end of the night, to make sure everything follows the desired schedule.
“Everything is cleaned up that night because we need to have the building put back for lunch the next day. If anything needs to stay overnight we just clean it up and meet the next day before noon for pick up.”
Wedding trends at Revival House…
An upcoming trend that the team at Revival House is noticing is a Sunday brunch wedding.
“COVID restrictions have brought many changes to the way that couples host their weddings,” Rob admits. “Sunday brunch weddings are a unique option for 2021 couples who have to plan within the current wedding restrictions.” And of course, couples are requesting an intimate ceremony and reception with ten to 50 people with flexible plans to ensure they have the wedding of their dreams regardless of how many guests they are allowed to invite. “These smaller weddings are giving people an intimate feel for their special day – Revival House lends itself beautifully to these types of events.”
