{reality wedding} Woodsy Winter Wedding at Grey Silo Golf Club

Kailey and Chris Everest’s wedding theme was woodsy winter. “The wood beams and stone fireplace of Grey Silo Golf Club created the perfect cozy atmosphere for our wedding. We incorporated pine cones (with a touch of gold sparkle) in our centre pieces, in wreaths around the room, and in my bouquet and the boutonnieres. The bridesmaids wore deep hunter green dresses that were similar in colour to pine trees. Touches of ivory (such as my dress and the shawls and muffs) stood out like snow against the trees. Sparkly birch branches were placed on either side of the head table. Fresh greenery was laid out across our head table. Lanterns and birch candles were scattered throughout the venue to create a soft, warm glow. Our guests were greeted with hot apple cider when they arrived, because cold weather calls for a warm drink!”

What inspired your wedding theme? We were inspired by Canadian winter! We love the snow, the pine trees, and the coziness of the season. We wanted to embrace the season with our wedding theme.

What was your favourite décor element? We both loved the fireplace. It is completely beautiful all on its own. Fresh Look Design took it to the next level with the soft glow of many flameless birch candles, bronze twig bunches, and greenery.

DIY DETAILS:  My mom and one of my sisters are the crafty ones in the family! My mom addressed all of the invitations in calligraphy. She also (again in calligraphy) hand wrote all of the place cards and the seating chart. She created chalk board signs for the apple cider station and guest book signing table. My sister made a hunter green and gold “Mr. & Mrs.” banner that decorated the apple cider station.

FLORALS: Julie at HiWay Flowers did an incredible job on our flowers. I carried a cascading bouquet with ivory roses, green berries, winter greens, and pinecones (and likely more …I am terrible for knowing the names of flowers!). The bouquet also had a touch of gold sparkle and a gold ribbon around the stem. A large arrangement for the church, the corsages, and boutonnieres were all done with similar colours to the bouquet. Julie also created two lovely flower girl crowns made of baby’s breath.

WEDDING FAVOURS: Our wedding favours were pine tree sugar cookies – complete with greenery, a touch of snow, and our initials! They were wrapped up with green and navy ribbons. Our guests raved about how beautiful and delicious they were! They were made by Sharon Runstedler of A Work of Heart Sugar Cookies and Cakes (www.facebook.com/workofheartsugarcookies).

What is the best memory of your wedding? Chris and I both agree that one of the best memories (and there were many to choose from) was seeing each other at the first look. Seeing each other all dressed up and having a quiet moment together in the woods was just lovely. These are some of our favourite photos too. Another amazing memory is from the reception – when my brother showed up just hours after having surgery! He wasn’t able to stay long but it meant so much to us having him there.

Any advice for couples planning their wedding? Kailey: take it step by step. We tried to focus on just one or two things at a time. On the day of the wedding just enjoy the day! It doesn’t matter if things don’t go perfectly as planned. It is the best day because you are getting married and spending the day with the people you love. Chris: don’t get overwhelmed and enjoy!
