“Having previously worked in the wedding industry, I knew that spending time driving from location to location was one of the biggest issues when it comes to the day of the wedding. We wanted a venue with everything all in one location – ceremony, cocktails, dinner, dancing, and rooms to stay in. Best Western Stoneridge Inn was the perfect location. There was also a wonderful spot to take photos, which really came in handy when the ceremony put us almost an hour behind schedule!” – Kayla & Chris
BRIDE & GROOM: Kayla & Christopher Anderson
WEDDING DATE: September 16th, 2017
LOCATION: Best Western PLUS Stoneridge Inn & Conference Centre (stoneridgeinn.com), London, ON
HOW DID YOU TWO MEET? HOW DID HE POP THE QUESTION:
“We went to high school together and lived a few doors down from one another, but actually wanted nothing more than friendship from each other! We ran into each other again during the summer after my first year of university and were inseperable. We spent almost every minute together – it felt like we had been best friends forever. It was just over a year after dating that he popped the question. He had the ring in his dresser for about six months prior to that and was waiting and waiting for the perfect moment. One day after work, I was having a meltdown and he decided it didn’t matter if the moment was already perfect because he just wanted to spend his life with me through the good and bad. Safe to say my meltdown turned into happy tears!”
# GUESTS: 120
BUDGET: Originally, $20,000. “In all, it turned out to be around $35,000. SO worth it!!” – K
THEME: Moody & whimsical. Blush, burgundy, black, and gold.
“The overall theme of our wedding was “moody and whimsical”. We used the colours blush, burgundy, black, and gold. The theme was inspired by a combination of my dress and the wedding invite. My dress was very intricate and luxurious, which was implemented throughout the event in the tiny details, fabrics, and colours. We used a mixture of dark, warm colours to really communicate luxury and light, airy colours to evoke whimsy and timelessness.”
DIY: “Most of the décor was designed and created by myself with loads of help from my wonderful family. The escort display was built by my father, and decorated by my MOH. The card box was actually an old tool box with a fresh coat of paint by my father. The groom and both families are mechanics – so that was an important personal touch. The table numbers were designed and made by myself. The centrepieces were put together by myself, my father, and my step-mother.”
FAVOURS: “A sugar cookie inspired by the invitation, created by Grandma’s Oven Bakery & Cakes Inc.(grandmasoven.ca) in Aylmer. Each cookie was dipped in a marbled icing and had our initials hand painted on each in gold.” – K
GROOM & GROOMSMEN ATTIRE: Bud Gowan Formalwear
HAIR: Christie Murray
MAKEUP: Becky Sawchuk.
BIGGEST CHALLENGE: “Narrowing down all my crazy ideas! My MOH and stepmother reminded me I only had ‘X’ number of days left to make a decision.” – K
FAVOURITE MOMENT: “I wouldn’t change any part of our day. Christopher and I both think the best part of it was having all of our family together enjoying themselves and having such a great time. It’s extremely heartwarming to have everyone in one room being so happy, especially when families don’t always get along! We felt so much love and support from all of our family and friends – which is geniunely the best feeling in the world. “-Kayla
ADVICE ONE BRIDE TO ANOTHER: “Get a great photographer and videographer! I am so glad I have footage of everything because I want to relive my day forever. I also recommend using your support system as much as you can. I am so thankful for all of my family that helped out, especially my step-mother and sister-in-law.”
