Lenny & David wanted a simple, elegant theme for their Heidelberg Ontario wedding day. Taking place at the historic Hauser Hall, “We accomplished this by keeping things minimal. I always envisioned lots of candles and flowers to create that romantic elegant feeling for our day… It was more of a reflection of us rather than choosing an inspiration or theme from somewhere else.”

BRIDE & GROOM: Lenny Zinger and David Mehmi

“What an amazing photography couple. They went out of their way several times to check the lighting of my venue, the lighting in the surrounding area for our outdoors photos – all without asking. We felt so comfortable working with her. Our engagement shoot was so much fun that I knew our wedding day would be captured beautifully.”
WEDDING DATE: March 12, 2016
CEREMONY & RECEPTION LOCATION: Hauser Hall (hauserhall.com), Heidelberg “From the moment we had our first view of the space, Ernie was so welcoming. A real father figure who wants every bride to have her dream wedding. Very accommodating to our vision and just a wonderful man to work with. He had some wonderful advice to help us plan our day.”

GROOM ATTIRE: David wore a Calvin Klein tux, bowtie, a Pal Zileri ivory tuxedo shirt from Paul Puncher Men’s Clothier (paulpuncher.com) and Hamlet shoes from Channers Men’s Apparel (channers.com). He wanted very sophisticated, classy look. In keeping with the something borrowed he had borrowed my fathers cufflinks to wear.

GROOMSMEN ATTIRE: The groomsmen were from overseas so they had all purchased a black suit in England along with an ivory shirt.

BRIDES ATTIRE: I had gotten my Paloma Blanca dress from Taylor’s Bridal Boutique (taylorsbridal.com) in Elmira. I had won my dress from them via a wedding show fundraiser for Breast Cancer that was hosted by Linda of Taylors Bridal, as one of their past employees had unfortunately lost her battle with the disease. The fundraiser was a tribute to her, and I was fortunate enough to have won the grand prize of a wedding dress of my choice from Paloma Blanca. I also wore Swarovski chandelier earrings and a bracelet and had my shoes handmade in Scotland by designer Diane Hassall.

BRIDESMAIDS ATTIRE: My bridesmaids had beautiful lace cocktail length dresses bought from La Creme (lacremedecor.com) in St Jacobs. They all wore Swarovski drop earrings and wore their own choice of shoe.

HAIR & MAKE-UP: Sonia Ryan & Co (soniaryan.com) and her hair stylist Dee from Funky Dee’s Hair Studio (facebook.com/deethestylist) were amazing. They came early and we leisurely got ready for the big day. It was filled with so many laughs, and such a relaxing atmosphere. She is such a talented woman and made all of us feel so naturally beautiful – every brides dream!

CATERING & DESSERT: Gusto Catering (gustocatering.ca) was awesome. We can honestly say we’ve never had such an amazing meal. Not only was the food absolutely spectacular but we were treated like family and got to know them very well. They made our menu with our vision and tastes in mind – totally personalized. They also did our dessert as we didn’t have a cake.

WEDDING PLANNING: Danielle at Dreamstyle Weddings
(dreamstyleweddings.com“Where do I begin? Any stress I had about the wedding was gone as soon as I hired her. She is very detailed, organized and so much fun. She spent many hours with me going over every detail to ensure the day was perfect. Anyone who hires her is extremely lucky in knowing that she will make sure that your day is as smooth and stress free as it should be. She even surprised me at the Bridal shop when I was picking up my dress – I totally cried. She wrote us a beautiful card for when we stopped in at our hotel room (along with some treats) and even won over our son with Hot Wheels! haha”

WEDDING FAVOURS: “Frost Dessert Shoppe (frostdessertshoppe.com) in Baden had made black forest cake macaroons in a soft blush colour for our wedding favours. We love food, and black forest is David’s favourite cake so it was the perfect choice! We also boxed these and decorated them with the same colour ribbon and pearls that we had throughout our wedding.”

FLOWERS: “Pink Poppi Design Studio (pinkpoppi.ca) was our florist. Not only is she a lot of fun, but she really listens and understands what we tried to envision for our day. I always love when you find someone who can make your vision truly come to life and that is exactly what she did. Her creative mind really made the most stunning atmosphere for our wedding. We told her the colours we had chosen – blush, peach, ivory and just let her do her magic! We let her decide on how to put it together. She did a wonderful combination of roses, juliette garden roses, anthuriums, ranunculus, hydrangeas, some gorgeous greenery and pussy willow branches as well as a few others I am unsure of the names of.

Honestly, the flowers were my favourite decor element. They were absolutely stunning. They had so much texture and movement that it captured my eye from every angle of the venue.”

MUSICIAN: “Juneyt (juneyt.com)is so charming and talented! I chose for him to play one of the songs he had written as our ceremony music and it was the best decision! He plays with such passion, it was such a romanic ceremony thanks to his live music. He also DJ’d for us in the evening as well as soft music during dinner. He had the people dancing all night long and had music to suit everyone.”

OFFICIANT: Our officiant Paul from Weddings by Paul (weddingsbypaul.com) was such a gentleman. He made us feel so warm and comfortable. He helped us to create our own, unique and very special ceremony. Any questions or concerns and he put our mind at ease. All of our guests made comments on how wonderfully he held our ceremony.

COLOUR PALETTE: Ivory, blush, champagne and gold accents

THEME: We wanted to have a simple, elegant theme for our day. We did this by keeping things minimal. I always envisioned lots of candles and flowers to create that romantic elegant feeling for our day.

It was more of a reflection of us rather than choosing an inspiration or theme from somewhere else. We always envisioned focusing on the marriage itself as apposed to all the hype…thus having our love shown as a theme is what inspired us for a soft, romanic and elegant feel. We like to be different from the a-typical mainstream, and what better theme than one that inspires the union of us becoming a couple!

DIY: We did LOTS! It took a lot of creative inspiration to make all that we did. We made our own invitations, programs, menus, table settings, the seating chart etc. Also the vision when buying all of the candle holders was a task as well. As my fiancé was overseas, my mother and I spent a lot of time creating all of these things for our wedding. We spent hours at the kitchen table with ribbon, pearls and paper to create something beautiful. My wedding dress was lace, and so I wanted to tie that in with our invitations and feel for what I had made.

I actually bought all of the candle holders myself, and decorated with them as well as the flowers from Pink Poppi. We picked such a beautiful, unique venue that the need for decor was not necessary so we enhanced the space by solely using candles and flowers.

INVITATIONS: I had made these myself actually. A very simple, elegant template from http://www.downloadandprint.com in which I embellished with lace, pearls, ribbon and a little bit of bling all wrapped in a hand dyed lace doily.

BIGGEST WEDDING CHALLENGE: Honestly, the seating plan. Trying to appease everyone was such a hard task. I think I had re-done the plan about a dozen times before it was finalized. Talk about stressful! Communication is key and try not to argue as you will not please everyone, but I think we did a pretty good job!

BEST WEDDING MEMORY: The best memory for us was sharing the ceremony with our son. We said a special vow just for him and gave him a ring during our ring exchange to signify our unity as a couple and a family. My son was the ring bearer but he also thought he was getting married too!

Another top highlight was the reception. Being able to relax and enjoy such a wonderful meal with all of our friends/family as we celebrated our marriage couldn’t be beat! The intimacy of the venue made it so superb.

Any advice for couples planning their wedding?

Breathe! Take one step at a time and start early. If you plan ahead you will be more organized and less stressed. Its a really fun process, enjoy every moment. Talk to your partner and both be involved. Have fun with it and laugh! Remember it is YOUR wedding, it is about the two of you – you can’t please everyone so just make sure that the two of you are happy!

Don’t cheap out on your photography!
Those are lasting moments you will cherish forever once the day is done. Looking back at the special moments captured will help you to relive that special day all over again.
