{reality wedding story} Beachy & Beautiful at Niagara-on-the-Lake

BRIDE & GROOM: Alycia and James Rollo

WEDDING DATE: June 24th, 2017

LOCATION: Legends on the Niagara (niagaraparks.com/legends-on-the-niagara)

“We loved the idea that our ceremony and reception could be in the same place for the ease of the day and for our guests. The second we walked into Legends we knew that we had found “the one” with the gorgeous stacked stone pillars and wood beams on the patio, and floor to ceiling windows in the reception room.” – A&J

PHOTOGRAPHY: Have Heart Photography (haveheartphotography.ca) in London, ON “Jason and Ashley had shot a couple of our friend’s weddings so we had the chance to see their work multiple times in multiple settings and were very impressed with the photos and their style. It is definitely very hard to choose my favorite part because they are all amazing, but I think I would have to choose the ones during sunset – they snuck the two of us out after dinner and we got the most amazing sunset pictures. They truly have an eye for every detail of their photography!” – A

James and I met while walking down one of our local beaches in Niagara. He got in touch with me through a mutual friend and the rest is history! He proposed at sunset when we were walking down the beach while vacationing in St Maarten, I was completely stunned! I found out later that he had the moment recorded so we have the movie to watch it over and over and over…. Needless to say, the beach has kind of been our thing, so we had to have some of those details at our wedding too!

THEME: “James and I met in the summer on the beach. We are both beach bums so we wanted it to incorporate summery colors but toned down: we chose peaches, whites, bright greens, light pinks, and touches of  champagne gold and then of course we had palm trees brought in to bring an even more tropical feel!” – A

# GUESTS: 140

FLOWERS: Floral Decor by Amanda (facebook.com/FloralDecorByAmanda), St. Catherines ON

DÉCOR RENTALS: Stuff By Chris (stuffbychris.com), St. Catharines, ON

WEDDING FAVOURS: “We decided to make a donation, in lieu of favours, to the Hamilton General Hospital Trauma Unit as it is near and dear to our hearts.” – A

BIGGEST CHALLENGE: “The biggest challenge of our wedding was the guest list. When we got engaged we said to ourselves, 80 people max. Then we made our lists and realized that 80 people was only James’ family, so that idea changed very quickly! We added people, took away people, readded them two days later, and eventually just had to sit down and start thinking about who has been here supporting our relationship so far and who are the people that will always support our love in the future. Finally, we made a list that we looked over (and then let our parents look too!) and we were happy with it…THEN the seating arrangements came!”-A

BEST MEMORY: “James and decided to do a “first look” and it was by far my favorite moment of our day. On route to the venue I had butterflies, I was anxious, excited, couldn’t stop smiling but also kept tearing up, but the minute I stepped outside and was walking towards him, his back turned towards me, and I tapped on his shoulder to turn around, was the happiest, most exciting, yet the most calming experience. It is so emotionally overwhelming to know that that day is your big day, the day you say “I do”, and the feeling I had walking over to him and seeing him for the first time in such a romantic and private moment, made me relax and enjoy the entire rest of our day so much more” – A

ADVICE, ONE BRIDE TO ANOTHER: “My first piece of advice is that it is never too soon to start planning! Second, make sure that you are BOTH having fun during the process and do your best to keep it fun. It can be a whirlwind for the bride who gets showered and celebrated on multiple
occasions, but the groom should also feel just as important. Definitely communicate — even though you don’t think your partner will care
about the flowers, give them a say so that they are part of the process too and have that pride in your big day as well! Choose your wedding party
wisely – they have to be in it for the long haul and be a supportive group! Also, stick to your gut on your decisions! Congratulations to you all and best wishes for your dream day!” – A
