{Reality Wedding Story} Alice in Wonderland Themed Wedding | Alissa & Cody

Alissa and Cody LOVE Disney and they wanted their guests to experience this feeling as they entered into the world of Alice and Wonderland! With giant marquee letters and confetti guns they achieved just that!

BRIDE & GROOM: Alissa and Cody Assu
WEDDING DATE: October 15, 2016

CEREMONY & RECEPTION LOCATIONS: “The original idea for our wedding ceremony was to host it in our backyard. Unfortunately, due to our October ‘storm’, we last minute reserved Sequoia Springs (www.sequoiasprings.com).” A

“The reception was a difficult choice- mainly finding a venue that had the ability to hold 300 guests. In the end, we choose the community centre! There was a HUGE hesitation at first… when people think of community centres, it’s hardly the vision for a rustic-glam wedding I wanted to create.  I am so happy we chose that venue, the sky was the limit with regards to our ability to decorate and manipulate the inside to our liking!” A

WEDDING FAVOURS: “We blended homemade tea. The teas we selected were fireweed, rose hip and stinging nettle!” A

GROOM & GROOMSMEN ATTIRE: RW & CO. (www.rw-co.com) & Moores Clothing for Men (www.mooresclothing.com)

BRIDE’S DRESS & ACCESSORIES: “Ladybelle Dress and I also had two Vietnamese dresses custom made. Accessories are from Michael Hill.” A

BRIDESMAIDS ATTIRE: David’s Bridal (www.davidsbridal.com)

DJ: DJ Kookum (www.djkookum.com)

WEDDING PLANNER: Olivia from Lavish Engagements (www.lavishengagements.ca)

DECOR: Sandy with Decorate Victoria with Huff n’ Puff (www.decoratevictoria.com) “They did all the  draping, confetti canons, and wooden branches to hang from the ceiling wrapped in lights, chandeliers and more. Sandy was incredible for our wedding. I searched Vancouver Island for a decorator to make our wedding dreams come true. I traveled to Victoria for meetings, with an hour to spare of free time and last-minute Sandy agreed to meet with me and show me around her facility. I felt extremely valued and comfortable during the meeting; she was attentive to both my wedding vision and budget. Our wedding was held in a community centre, but the moment you stepped into the facility.. you felt as though you were in the world of Alice and Wonderland. If your wedding is small or large as ours- Sandy and her team will do wonders to make your dreams come true.. highly recommend!”

THEME: “The original theme was rustic in the woods, however as we discovered, our theme changed A LOT in the months leading up to our wedding. For this reason, it’s important to hire a wedding planner. Olivia from Lavish Events kept us focused in the right direction! The ultimate theme was Alice in Wonderland with a ‘hint’ of rustic! The moment guests arrived to our reception; I wanted them to feel as though they entered into the world of Alice and Wonderland.” A

FAV DECOR ELEMENT: “There is so much to love about the elements of our wedding! The ‘LOVE’ light-up signs and confetti canons were my two favourite elements!” A

DIY: “We blended homemade tea as wedding favours. We also created a DIY stand behind the bar stations to create a more ‘rustic’ feel to our wedding! And we created candle-filled teacups.” A

BEST WEDDING MEMORY: DIY teas and teacup candles “My husband’s sisters and aunties all came over and we spent the evening crafting! Also, my mother-in-law and both sister-in-laws helped me choose the dress… one that I would have never picked and it turned out pretty magical!” A

ADVICE FROM ONE BRIDE TO ANOTHER: Hire a wedding planner and strongly consider their recommendations! They have worked with TONS of vendors, all of whom survive on reviews and recommendations. Also, you don’t always have to stress about doing things ‘traditional’ such as spending the night before the wedding apart, or throwing the bouquet, etc.!
