Purple and navy elegance at Harding Waterfront Estate | Kathia & Marc

Kathia and Marc didn’t have a certain theme or look in mind when it came to planning their big day. They just knew that they wanted it to be elegant. So they picked colours they liked that looked great together and the look and feel of their wedding just fell into place…

Wedding theme and colours: “We chose colours that we liked and that would look elegant together. I love purple and had asked the bridesmaids to find any dress they wanted. I didn’t mind if they were different styles and tones as long as they looked good together. They all chose the Vera Wang dress in the cassis colour, which I also loved. The guys wore blue suits including Marc but his was a different tone of blue. The Venue is stunning so we didn’t need to add much in terms of decorations.” – K

Bride’s Attire: Promises & Lace (promisesandlace.ca)

Bridesmaids Attire: White by Vera Wang from David’s Bridal (davidsbridal.ca)

Groom’s Attire: MADE Clothing Toronto (madeclothing.ca)

Flowers: With All My Heart Wedding Décor (withallmyheartweddingdecor.ca) “I have to admit I was nervous about the floral arrangements because when we met with the florist she didn’t have visual examples of anything I was asking for. So I just crossed my fingers and hoped that they understood what I was looking for. They surpassed my expectations!” – K

Photographer: Whitney Heard Photography (whitneyheard.com) “I met Whitney when she photographed my best friend’s wedding. I loved the way she worked, how she was able to direct people properly to get the shots that she wanted and her professionalism. That’s when I knew I needed her to photograph our wedding. What a talented woman!” – K

Stationery: All That’s Lovely (allthatslovely.com)”I loved my invitations. They were so pretty and classy. Amber was super accommodating which made this part of planning so much easier.” – K

Hair & Makeup: Hair: Duyen Huynh (duyenhuynh.com), Makeup: Cheryl Gushue (cherylgushue.com)”I highly recommend Duyen and Cheryl for hair and makeup. They both have a ton of experience in their fields and made our entire bridal party look stunning!” – K

Music: New Age Sound & Lighting (newasal.com) “If you want your guests on the dancefloor the entire night then you want to hire New Age Sound and Lighting!” – K&M

Fav wedding moments: “There are a few moments that we loved! Walking down the aisle – My mom and dad walked me down the aisle to the sound of a Spanish guitar as I looked down to see Marc standing at the archway, with the Lake as his backdrop. And seeing all these people who mean so much to us in the crowd. I could not have imagined a better moment.” – K

“The binding of our matrimony – We chose to incorporate a Latin American tradition where our parents placed a lasso rosary around our necks. This act symbolizes the unity of our lives together; the figure 8 signifies eternity and it being a rosary binds our marriage before God. The meaning of this and having our parents involved was truly special.” – K&M

“Our first dance – We got to dance outside surrounded the people we love most to a beautiful song (Stay with You by John Legend.) We were lucky to have perfect weather that day and our daughter even joined it. It was perfect!” – K&M

Ceremony: “We literally wanted to be surround by our family and wanted to have the ceremony to feel intimate. Creating a kind of circular seating arrangement did just that and allowed for more people to have a better view of the whole ceremony. Marc’s cousin, Michelle, married us. She obviously knows us both but we met with her a couple of times before the wedding so she could ask us specific questions, which she used to create a unique Ceremony that really represented us.”

“I speak Spanish, French and English, and Marc speaks French and English. Our cultures and languages are really important to us. We incorporated them in the invitations, throughout the ceremony, in the music that was played, our MC’s dialogue and the menus which were on all the tables at the reception.” – K&M

How did you meet? “We went to the same French elementary school in Burlington. Marc was in my older sister’s class. We went to different high schools and our lives went in different directions after that. He went to school in Switzerland while I went on to live in Chicago and came back to Toronto in 2003. We got back in touch through Facebook in 2013 and we were inseparable after that.” – K

How did he pop the question? “Marc proposed to me while on vacation after hiking to the waterfall in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. He had planned to do it on the trip but did not know when to do it. He found the perfect moment to propose as I was video taping him by the waterfall. He asked me to look for the extra battery in our backpack. As I was searching through the bag, he took the camera from me and recorded as I found the ring and that’s when he proposed.” – K
