Best Western Premier Prestige Oceanfront Resort

Prestige Oceanfront Resort offers high style weddings for local and destination couples

Prestige Oceanfront Resort (often referred to just as Prestige) opened its doors in February 2011. Overnight, it became one of the island’s hottest wedding venues for the high style weddings of both local and destination couples.

Prestige offers everything a couple could want in their wedding experience; gorgeous ocean and mountain views, seaside ceremonies, fabulous ballrooms, upscale accommodations for guests, and a spa that everyone should have a chance to experience at least once.

The team at The Ring had the opportunity to tour the spaces, be treated in the spa, and stay overnight in the gorgeous guest rooms. Here’s just a few of the reasons why so many brides are adding Prestige to their must-see lists…

Small intimate events & large grand galas – all at Prestige

If you’ve ever taken a tour of Prestige, you can understand how its secluded luxury has made it such a hot spot for both local and destination weddings. To begin with, the wedding ceremony and reception options at Prestige are breathtaking.

For indoor receptions, you have convention centre facility spaces to choose from. The French Beach Salon, Otter Point Salon or Orca Spirit Salon are each available on their own, or for larger galas, can be opened up to make one, large, gorgeous space – the Grand Ballroom. Between the four options, Prestige can accommodate anywhere from sixteen to five hundred guests. The black, browns, tans and ivories colour palette makes it easy for any wedding style to fit in perfectly here. Don’t be fooled by the label of convention space – the ballrooms are the picture of sophisticated beauty.

For indoor ceremonies, Prestige couples often choose the Grand Foyer which overlooks the Palm Terrace.

Outdoors, your options include the Palm Terrace, the Palm Terrace 2 or the Veranda, the seaside Pavilion and the Pavilion grounds. The team at Prestige says that their seaside Pavilion is probably their most popular request for island wedding ceremonies. Convention & Catering Manager, Nichola adds, “The resort features unparalleled ocean, rainforest, and mountain views; the perfect backdrop for any wedding.”

Nichola explains, “Our on-site team can work with any couple’s vision and within the parameters of any budget. Prestige itself offers a variety of options that can cater to any bride. From hosting only the reception to providing a full destination experience including photographer, flowers, décor, and accommodations; our team will work with you to ensure all needs are met and expectations exceeded.”

Prestige, in person

The key players at Prestige are General Manager, Jacob Cramp, Food and Beverage Operating Partner, Valerie Lessard, Food & Beverage Manager Dan Houle, and Convention & Catering Manager Nichola Warner.

Nichola discovered her passion for event planning and worked her way up at the Prestige. She told The Ring, “The opportunity to work alongside experienced event professionals and draw on their knowledge and experience in the industry was enlightening.” The Prestige has now hosted over a 100 absolutely incredibly weddings in the short time since opening.

Nichola loves that the Prestige Oceanfront Resort is able to offer the complete experience. “From rehearsal dinners to brunch the day after the wedding, we can be your venue from start-to-finish.”

Space for guests and the honeymoon

Prestige hosts guests in 122 guest rooms and suites ranging from deluxe to premium. Their range of style and size are designed to suit all of your guests needs – perfect for destination weddings.

Each of the four floors of guest rooms are decorated in a different theme, which are carried through to the hallways and into every decorative aspect of the suite. Themes include Island Colonial, Tropical, Metropolitan and Opulent.

Incredibly, rooms present stunning views of the property, Sooke Harbour, Sooke Basin, and right across to the Juan de Fuca Strait and the Olympic Mountains.

The Ring especially loved the lobby that creates the feeling of walking onto a Gone with the Wind movie set.

A luxury spa

No luxury resort would be complete without a luxury spa. The Prestige delivers on this front as well. Located on the ground level, near the Convention Centre, Le Sooke Spa offers every spa service a bride could ask for. You can even enjoy your spa experience outside on the terrace (weather permitting). The state of the art Prestige Athletic Club is located right beside the spa. There is also an indoor pool and hot tub available for use.

Adding taste to your wedding

Prestige offers multiple menu options, with the Mix Platinum Buffet topping the list as the favourite for many brides and groom. Whenever possible, Prestige will provide organic, sustainable and locally sourced menu items. “We want your wedding to boast of exceptional service and to be a memorable culinary experience.” says Nichola.

Demonstrating a true passion for their craft, the culinary team has partnered with local suppliers to provide guests with some of the freshest seafood around.

The dedicated event planning team takes pride in ensuring a couple’s vision and expectations are brought to fruition especially when it comes to the wedding day menu. The Ring enjoyed their opportunity to attend a wedding at the Prestige Oceanfront Resort and can attest to the spectacular tastes. They truly love what they do and that is evident in their work.

We love the tasting dinner which is hosted by the Prestige Oceanfront Resort for their bridal couples. Local wedding vendors are invited to co-host and the couple gets to experience exactly what is available for their event. So there is no reason to worry on the wedding day as the couple knows what they and their guests will be enjoying.

Prices vary based on venue space needed and season. The Prestige offers a variety of buffet dinners starting from $36.95 per person and plated dinner options start at $49. The culinary team is also willing to customize your menu for a truly unique experience. There is also an impressive selection of local and imported wines and champagnes to compliment any meal or budget.

Jacquie and Barry, who married in January 2015, were especially pleased. “We just want to thank you and the staff once again for the excellent service and warm and friendly way of providing it. We have been bragging to all of our friends about the wonderful meal that the chef delivered, the catering team, the dining room servers, and also the whole team of hotel staff…”

A very popular option is the breakfast offer for the morning after the wedding for guests before leaving. Kat and Kevin found this to be a great opportunity with their family and friends. ”Breakfast available on site the next morning allowed us to mingle with guests the next day as well, so we really didn’t miss greeting anyone! It was an absolutely perfect day.”

Prestige brides

Nichola says that Prestige appeals to brides of many tastes and budgets because of their multitude of options and their flexibility to work with almost any wedding day needs. “Because we offer destination style weddings, we can even cater to out of town brides as well as local brides. We can do as little as simply providing a venue or we can offer a complete destination wedding with cake, photographer, flowers, decorations and full guest accommodations.”

Nichola says that at Prestige, she’s seen many different styles of weddings, from traditional to themed. “One of my personal favorites was a theme we used for our annual bridal tasting event hosted at the resort. We had a romantic/vintage theme that showcased dark purple, gold, and ivory accents with vintage bird cages. The ballroom looked incredible and was simply stunning. Whenever a bride inquires about my thoughts on décor and themes, I mention this.”

Kat and Kevin, who married in October 2014, are still raving about their experience. “”Our wedding was a large affair with close to 200 guests and many moving parts. The Prestige offered such amazing food and gorgeous scenery that really captured the West Coast style we wanted to showcase. On the day of, everything ran completely smoothly – if there were any hiccoughs we sure didn’t notice! Over six months later, we’re still hearing from guests how much they loved attending and how elegant everything was.”

Walking you through it

Your first contact is with Prestige’s Event Planner, and she’s also (alongside Valerie Lessard) the one who will be present on your wedding day. Most first contacts come via email. “Once we have been contacted, I send them our catering package complete with venue information.”

The first consultation is all about vision. You wouldn’t be getting into minute details at this point, it’s really more about the big picture. “We tour the facility and talk about available dates and possible budgets for catering…” If it’s love at first sight, a deposit confirms your date and venues at Prestige.

As time passes between the initial meeting and the wedding day, you meet an average of six times to go over details. “When the date is drawing near, we have one final meeting to wrap up all the details including drawing a map of the venue to ensure that everything is exactly to the bride’s expectations.”

On the wedding day, Nichola arrives hours before the bridal party and guests to ensure that all last minute details are attended to. “I make it a priority to be present at each and every wedding held at the resort. As I work with the brides and grooms to plan every detail, I want to ensure their vision is achieved. I arrive several hours before the wedding and will remain onsite throughout the ceremony and reception. I am very involved in the entire process; from the initial site visit to the final guest departure, I am there to make sure the wedding is everything the couple dreamed it would be.”

Mack and Irene, married in May 2015, loved how everything worked out for them. “The wedding was perfect and for sure it was the best moment in our life. All of our families and friends were amazed by the beautiful ocean view and sight that provided from the resort, and that was one of the main reasons why we picked Prestige Resort over other locations on Vancouver Island. The other reason is we really appreciated the working attitude from the crew of the wedding department, without their hard work we would not have been able to have such a wonderful wedding. Prestige resort matches everything we wanted on our list, and by far overall it is one of the best locations to hold a wedding, in our opinion.”
