Perfect location + Perfect photographer = a Dream Wedding! | Jennifer & Mike

Planning an out of town wedding can be tricky, but when you have amazing vendors and a great location, everything just falls into place. That’s exactly what happened for Jennifer and Mike when they found A Nash Photograph. They loved Amy and the style of her photography and the rest is history…

Married couple: Jennifer Stewart and Mike Merritt

Wedding Date: Oct 11, 2019

Ceremony & Reception Location: Conservatory and Red Room at Langdon Hall (langdonhall.ca). “It was a really small wedding (10 people) so we had the ceremony in the conservatory and then dinner in the adjoining dining room. We knew we did not want a large wedding, we wanted to limit it to immediate family. At first we thought our only option might be city hall or an outdoor venue. One evening I decided to google “wedding photographers in Cambridge Ontario” and I came across Amy Nash’s website. When scrolling through her portfolio we saw a wedding that looked to be a similar size to what we were planning and the picture was in a beautiful red dining room.   The photo caption mentioned how Amy loved the small intimate weddings at Langdon Hall. We immediately looked up Langdon Hall and knew that if they had the date we wanted then we found our venue. Lucky for us, they had the date available and everything just fell into place from there!” – J

Theme: “Since our wedding was held on Thanksgiving weekend, our theme was seasonal. We went with fall colours and incorporated elements of nature into the decor. Our cake was designed to look like birch bark with a heart and our initials carved into it. We kept the birch theme throughout with our wedding favours (birch tea light holders) and a birch wood slice with a heart cut out for our ring holder. Our wedding favours included macaroons in fall colours in an organza bag with green ribbon.” – J

Flowers: “The florist was Kathy Holford from Flowerzdesign (facebook.com/flowerzdesign). With fall being the season of our wedding we asked Kathy to use fall colours as her inspiration. The flower arrangements and bridal bouquet she designed were absolutely stunning! The flowers and berries Kathy incorporated were orange dahlias, black baccara roses, bittersweet, grapevine, burgundy Amaranthus, magnolia, seeded and parve eucalptus, hypericum berries, rowan berries and red dogwood branches.” – J

Décor: “Langdon hall provided most of the items we needed such as signing table, decorative pillars for the ceremony space, the chairs, table linens etc. our florist provided the cake stand, decorative vases and pillar candles for the table.   She also provided decorative vases for the ceremony space.” – J

Fav décor element: “The flowers! They were amazing! They fit perfectly with theme and the season of our wedding.   They were so elegant and beautiful and really made the venue extra special for us.” – J

DIY: “With the wedding having a small guest list and being held at a such stunning venue there was not much for us do to. Our only DIY projects were staining a wood slab which would hold the wedding favours . We also added a decorative burlap/lace ribbon to the birch tealight holders we purchased as wedding favours.” – J&M

Officiant: “Our wedding officiant was Christine Lafazanos from Woven Threads Handcrafted Cermonies (woven-threads.ca) in Guelph. We did a google search for wedding officiants in the Cambridge area and came across Christine’s website. Christine’s authentic, warm and caring personality really comes through when you read through the page and look at the photos she has posted. We booked a skype chat with Christine where she asked us some questions about the type of ceremony we wanted, about who we are and what elements we would like incorporated (such as a ring warming ceremony involving the guests).   After the chat we knew that Christine shared our vision for the ceremony and we were excited to see what she would put together for us. We were so happy with the ceremony that Christine wrote and the way she delivered it, she truly has a gift. Christine’s suggestion of involving the guests through the ring warming ceremony was a really special moment for us and a really nice touch for an intimate wedding.” – J&M

Invitations/stationery: “Vistaprint. We took advantage of the free wedding invitation sample pack. The sample pack included 10 invitations, 10 envelopes and 10 RSVP cards with envelopes.   Since the wedding was small, the sample pack meant we could get the invitations for our guests for free!” – J

Cake: “Our cake was made by Wellington Cakes (wellingtoncakes.ca) in Guelph ON.   The cake was a two-tier birch bark cake with the upper tier being vanilla with lemon and the lower tier chocolate and strawberry.   Anne Forestell designed it so that it looked like a heart was carved into the lower tier with our initials, so cute!   It was absolutely beautiful and equally delicious.” – J

Wedding favours: “Our wedding favours were an organza bag with two macaroons in fall colours, from Wellington Cakes and chocolate mints from Reid’s Chocolates. We also had birch tealight holders from ForestWedding (etsy.com/ca/shop/ForestWedding) to send home with each guest.” – J&M

Groomsmen and Groom’s attire: “Micheal wore his RCMP red serge in full regalia. He looked so good!” – J

Bride’s dress and accessories: “I got my dress from Alliance Bridal (alliancebridal.com) and PowderBlueBijoux (etsy.com/ca/shop/PowderBlueBijoux) for my bridal hair piece.” – J

Hair & make-up: “My hair was done by Negar at Salon Parastar (salonparastar.com) in Cambridge ON. Negar was amazing, we coordinated via email because we live in Ottawa. She asked for photos of the type of style I was considering . When I made a trip to Cambridge before the wedding for the hair and make up trial, Negar was amazing.   The chignon style she gave me was exactly what I wanted, I could not have been happier. She was also amazing to work with and removed any stress and anxiety I might of had while trying to find a stylist. Negar was also willing to come to Langdon Hall to do my hair, this was amazing! My make-up was done by Lisa P. at the Langdon Hall Spa. When I went for my trial Lisa was amazing. I expressed my concerns about make up (being that I am a redhead). I wanted it to look natural. Lisa knew exactly what to do and she put my mind at ease.   Everyone commented on how natural the make up looked and it looks great in the photos!” – J

Photographer: A Nash Photograph (anashphotograph.com). “When we read her philosophy we knew she would be right for us. Her fun and energetic personality comes through when you read her webpage. We went with our gut and we are so glad we did. Amy and her husband Deane are amazing to work with. They have a gift for being able to keep you relaxed and feel like everything is taken care of. They are fun and energetic and so down-to-earth. We could not have asked for a more perfect fit. We really love all of the photos and it is really hard to pick favorites. We love the “first look” photos, they are so natural and unscripted and our reactions are really “us”. Amy had the first photo available the night of the wedding, we could not believe it. It is an absolutely stunning photo of us on the steps in Langdon Hall’s garden. They are truly gifted artists from planning each shot and finding the perfect locations, to the way they set up the poses and get the perfect light for each shot. Then there is all the behind the scenes wizardry that Amy does before the final product is delivered. Amy had our photos available in less than a week, we are still amazed by that.   Now we have to try and choose which photos we would like in our album, not an easy task when you love them all!” – J&M

Biggest challenge: “We live in Ottawa so the planning was done at a distance, mostly via email or skype chats with our vendors. We were a little nervous because we did not know how everything would come together, especially without face-to-face meetings with everyone.   We are so grateful that everything went smoothly, our vendors were all fantastic and we would not a change a thing. We also want to thank our parents for all of their help. They live in Guelph and were able to meet with some of the vendors on our behalf, it would not have been as easy for us to plan if it weren’t for them.” – J

Fav wedding memory: “The “first look” is the best memory of our wedding.   It was Amy and Deane who suggested it and when it was first run by us we were not sure how we felt about it, but we thought it would be fun. It turned out to be so memorable. We knew the cameras would be there but in the moment we forgot all about that and it really felt like it was just the two of us. It was nice to have this time alone together before the ceremony. The first look photos are definitely some of our favorites, the reactions and emotions come through so well and we just can’t help but smile when we see them.” – J&M

Advice from one couple to another: “Just remember that it is your wedding, do not try to please everyone else. Make it the day that you both want it to be because you will be the ones looking back on it.” – J
