Jennifer and George wanted a wedding that was classic with a touch of glam. They chose blush, gold and white colours for their colour palette and intentionally chose classic décor pieces such as candelabra centrepieces and hints of gold throughout. They told The Ring, “We wanted to give our photos a sense of timeless beauty. Our intention was to incorporate traditional style with modern trends, which our decorator beautifully achieved!” With their family and friends by their side they had the wedding of their dreams…
Bride & Groom: Jennifer & George Nikas
Wedding Date: August 6, 2016
Ceremony Location: Metropolitan United Church. Reception: Brookside Banquet Centre (brooksidebanquetcentre.ca) “We chose a United Church because we wanted a non-denominational wedding. We specifically chose Metropolitan because its right in the heart of downtown, with Victoria nearby and the university where we shot our photos.
Reception Location: “We chose Brookside Banquet Centre because we had the entire venue to ourselves. We were able host cocktail hour in close enough proximity that we used it as a lounge afterwards during the reception ” – J & G
Photographer: “Nova Markina Photography (novamarkina.com) was recommended to us. When we visited their blog and saw all of their amazing photos we knew they were the one. Nova has a way of creating fresh and timeless photos. We found them to be extremely professional but also down-to-earth. They made our day run very smoothly and they were very friendly and were open to suggestions.” – J & G
Décor: RL Designs Inc. “Ryan created my gorgeous centrepieces, backdrop for the head the table, linens, and lighting.” – J
Favourite décor element: “The centrepieces and lighting!” – J
DIY: “Yes! I bought white ikea frames and spray painted them gold for the table numbers and menu – I created the table numbers and menu myself. I decided I wanted a candy buffet style table and I bought acrylic jars and vases and added pink ribbon around them. I also created name cards for our guests.” – J
The L.O.V.E single letter sign was a decision my sister made last minute and found a person on Kijiji who had them and we quickly rented them literally a week before the wedding.
Invitations/stationery: “Created them myself, all with supplies from Michael’s.” – J
Wedding favours: Candy from the Candy Buffet (candy from Party City).
DJ & Live Band: Gianni – Latin Power Music
Make-up: Carm by Carmelina
Biggest Challenge: “Our biggest challenge was getting people to RSVP on time. We also had a hard time deciding what our wedding favour would be. We wanted something that our guests would take home and cherish forever and not throw away. So we decided having a candy buffet table and having a photo booth with a personalized photo printed on-site was our best option.” – J & G
Fav memory: “When my husband and I entered the hall dancing to Bruno Mars – “Marry You” remixed by our DJ. Everyone got up from their seats and started cheering, clapping and dancing. I think of that moment everyday – it was perfect!” – J
Advice from one bride to another: “1. DO NOT STRESS!! This day is so special and it goes by way too quickly, there is no point in stressing. 2. Do not attempt to satisfy all your guests because it is impossible. 3. Invest money into food and entertainment and worry less about décor. People tend to remember the good food they ate and the dancing, not the color of the table linens” -J
