Kingfisher Oceanside Resort & Spa

Kingfisher has everything you need, all in one Vancouver Island location

Kingfisher Oceanside Resort & Spa is a truly stunning wedding destination on Eastern Vancouver Island. This location offers the opportunity to exchange your vows with the spectacular view of Gartley Bay and the Coastal Mountain Range as your backdrop. The Kingfisher staff and Event Coordinators are experienced in making weddings beautiful with thirty years in the business. They offer elegance within a casual setting, and the service to go along with it. In fact, the philosophy at Kingfisher is that it’s all about you.

The options are endless at the Kingfisher for a bridal couple. They offer indoor and outdoor ceremony sites as well as the option of the gorgeous beach venue. There are reception rooms, honeymoon suites, elopement packages, exceptional catering, and a staff that is fully equipped and ready to take care of all your guests as well! Most importantly, The Kingfisher prides itself on being all-inclusive for weddings. Let us explain…

Setting the scene for an incredible wedding day…

Kingfisher is gorgeous. We didn’t truly realize just how gorgeous until we spent the day at this incredible location. You will love the surprise of the inner garden courtyard that opens up as you walk through the main lobby. The beautifully landscaped courtyard is filled with flowers in the summer months. The edge of the property disappears into the line of the ocean and leaves a cozy, “cut off from the rest of the world” feeling for guests. During an evening at Kingfisher, staff at The Ring were treated to a mouth-watering meal created by the chefs at The Breakwater, all the while finding ourselves delightfully distracted by the night view of the lights across the bay!

The Kingfisher is distinct with its upper buildings where you will find the lobby, courtyard and restaurant. At the edge of the courtyard you step into the elevator – which only has one way to go… and that’s down! Guest suites can be found below the courtyard, right along the beach, with beautiful views. These beautiful facilities offer weddings for two up to 110 guests.

Beautiful spaces with flexible (and budget-friendly) options

The Kingfisher has very different options available for your wedding ceremony. Most popular is the beachfront ceremony which has a beautiful view of Gartley Bay and the Coastal Mountain Range in the background and seating for around forty guests. An alternative is the Sandpiper Room with its beach rock fireplace and ocean view.

Reception spaces include indoor and outdoor. Tents can be set up in the inner Courtyard for an outdoor reception or the Dining Room is available to buy out for exclusivity. The Sandpiper Room can also be used as a reception venue for up to forty people. If you are planning a larger reception then the Kingfisher Room seats up to sixty-four people.

Claire and Jeff married on Feb 4, 2012. They had a very specific ‘wish list’ for their wedding! “The Kingfisher had the exact setting and facilities we were looking for, at a very reasonable price. We were looking for a place where we could have everything, the ceremony, the reception, the catering provided on site, accommodations for our guests, a restaurant, a place for our guests to be in between the ceremony and reception, all on a waterfront location…. we wanted our guests to be able to arrive and not have to leave for anything, that it would be a mini getaway for everyone, us included. The spa and use of the pool, hot tub, sauna and steamcave were icing on the cake! Since our wedding was in February and had to be indoors, we also wanted a room for the ceremony and reception that was waterfront and had a fireplace, which the Sandpiper Room at the Kingfisher provided.”

A seasoned expert on your side…

Meghan Walker is the wedding expert at The Kingfisher. She says that she grew up following her mom around in her catering business since she was five. When she was old enough to have a ‘real job’ it was in fine dining. She has officially worked in the hospitality industry for the past twenty-four years in various positions within food and beverage, banquets and management.
Meghan describes the feel of the Kingfisher as very “west coast beach but with elegance. When you walk into our courtyard you feel like you have stepped into another world. There is the wild feel to the beach but the manicured and pretty calmness of the gardens. It’s such a wonderful combination!”

Meghan will either meet with a couple in person or by telephone for an initial consultation and then lead the couple through the planning stages up to their wedding day. Her knowledge is endless about The Kingfisher as well as the local wedding professionals who may suit you best. You can trust her with all the details of your wedding day as she acts as your coordinator, consultant and planner. Meghan has her own philosophy. “I believe in concentrating on the couple, their needs and their experience. It’s very important that we give all our attention to one couple at a time so we only book one wedding per weekend.”

Jeff and Claire appreciated the fact that they had an Event Coordinator who was there every step of the way. “Our coordinator was so nice and informative. She made us feel so welcome and comfortable when we were first looking at the Kingfisher. Working with her made the whole wedding planning process quite easy!”

The reason couples find things so easy at Kingfisher is the wedding booklet that each couple receives to work through. After the original tour is given and a couple decides which package will suit them, the event coordinator will start helping them through the decisions to be made at each phase of planning. Beach ceremony or courtyard? What order do the couple wish events to take place? What menu choices do they wish to have? Meghan will check to be sure that each step is taken and decided upon.

Mark and Carol, married May 12, 2012, found it so helpful to have everything planned to a ‘T’ for them. “It just made everything go so smoothly. Friends told us it was the best wedding they had ever been to – so that made us pretty happy!”

Meghan feels that The Kingfisher offers exceptional service (World Host Certified). “Our world class spa really adds to what we can offer a bridal couple. The services can be included into wedding packages and full bridal makeup and treatments arranged.”

The Kingfisher Wedding Packages, depending on which you choose, can include suites, guest accommodations, breakfasts, wedding cake, bouquets, spa treatments, turn down service and wine with truffles. A ceremonial archway, signing table, guest chairs and seasonal flowers are also available.

One thing that seems to really stand out to those who have experienced a Kingfisher wedding is how pleased all their guests were who stayed at the resort. Carol and Mark arranged for many of their friends and family to be in rooms at the resort. “A lot of our guests stayed at the Kingfisher and had a good experience. We were happy that our guests were happy!”

Claire and Jeff couldn’t say enough about the whole experience. “We couldn’t pick a favourite memory. There are so many! It was the greatest weekend for us.”

Local, renowned culinary excellence…

The Breakwater Restaurant, located within Kingfisher, is known for its contemporary West Coast cuisine by Chef Philippe Gagne. The Kingfisher is also known for their local seafood and fresh ingredients as well as catering to individual guests’ needs. They take their motto, ‘from the sea, from local farmers, from the forest, from our own gardens‘, quite seriously!

The expert team at The Breakwater Restaurant work alongside the Event Coordinators to ensure that all the catering at your special event is executed with perfection.

Jeff and Claire were very enthusiastic about the food experience. “The food is amazing….most of our guests told us that the food at our reception was the best they’ve had at a wedding, and we completely agree!”

Carol and Mark had the weather cooperate with their gourmet plans! “The food was really good. We had chosen to have a West Coast Barbecue and there was great variety and everyone thought it was delicious. The day was so beautiful that the appetizers and cocktails were served on the patio. That was really special!”

A few of our favourite things…

♥ The Bridal Spa Packages that are perfect for before or after the big day. Take your bridal party or your new hubby! Services offered include relaxation massages, body polishing and facials.

♥ That they offer ‘Picture Perfect’ at the spa. An experienced Esthetician will create the perfect look for your special day featuring Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics.

♥ That couples who return for their anniversary are offered special rates!

♥ They’re a World Host Certified Resort

♥ Great access! The Kingfisher is accessible via Comox Valley International Airport, BC Ferries, Harbour Air and Pacific Coastal. This makes things easy for family and friends.

♥ How enthusiastic some of the couples were we interviewed. Claire and Jeff, when asked if they would recommend the Kingfisher, sent these words. “Absolutely!! We love the Kingfisher!! The location and the staff are fantastic!

♥ All the rooms have an ocean view!

♥ The Kingfisher really can boast having it all in one spot. Claire commented on this. “The combination of the resort location, with the Sandpiper Room, which has the waterfront location and the fireplace, for the ceremony and reception, was unbeatable.”

Prices and packages

The Kingfisher has several packages available for couples to choose from, all of which brides seem to find budget-friendly yet still fabulous. Elopements and wedding packages start at $1400 to $26,000 plus all applicable taxes. While this range is obviously very wide-spread, it’s simply because at Kingfisher, there is truly a package that will work for every budget! And if you can’t find what you’re looking for, packages can always be customized specifically for your wedding and budget.

Jeff and Claire felt that the Kingfisher had great value. “We found the prices at the Kingfisher very reasonable. They completely fell within our budget and totally matched the value we received. We actually felt very lucky to have found such a perfect venue, with such amazing service, with prices that fit our relatively modest budget for a wedding.”

We were married on July 6th, 2013 at Kingfisher. We enjoyed working with Meghan Walker to plan our wedding - she is so organized and takes the time to answer any and all of your questions along the way. We loved that she was there on the wedding day itself and helped oversee all details (setting up speakers and chairs for the ceremony, finding a card box for us since we had forgotten to get one, etc). We can't say enough good things about working with her. We chose to have our ceremony outdoors in the garden, our cocktail reception on the patio and then move inside the restaurant for our buffet dinner reception. We loved this - it made it feel like the whole resort was booked out for our wedding! The Breakwater Restaurant is a beautiful venue and needs very little if any decorating (it has a real West Coast feel to it) and huge windows along one wall for ocean views. Many of our guests travelled from Ontario for the wedding and we wanted to showcase the beauty of the West Coast. They weren't disappointed! Having guests be able to stay at the resort also meant that people could relax and not worry about getting cabs back to their hotels after the reception. Getting married at Kingfisher is stress-free and has an all-inclusive feel to it, it's like a destination wedding in one of the most beautiful places in Canada. We highly recommend the Kingfisher!

My husband and I were married at the kingfisher resort may 28th of this year. We really can't say enough good things about our experience there! Our first night there, we enjoyed dinner in the breakwater restaurant which was amazing. The service there was exceptional. We felt like celebrities, it was great! Also, throughout the planning stages we were in touch with Meghan walker who made our planning so easy! She was so friendly and easy to talk to, always quick to return emails or phone calls. The morning of our ceremony the weather was not looking cooperative for our "beach" wedding. Meghan was right there to find us several alternate locations to choose from for our ceremony. The service from everyone was great, from the front desk to the spa and everywhere in between! We could not have chosen a better location with the beautiful scenery, gardens and wildlife. We would definitely recommend it and we will definitely be returning for another stay.

We had our wedding at the Kingfisher in Aug 2012. We still cannot stop talking about how wonderful it was. The food was fantastic, the staff went above and beyond, and everything looked beautiful. I cannot recommend the Kingfisher enough!
