Having the people you love celebrating with you on your big day is one of the best parts of your wedding. In order to ensure that your guests have enough notice to make sure that they can attend Heather from Red Bicycle Paper Co. (redbicyclepaperco.com) has given us an invitation timeline.
10 to 12 months before – design and mail save the dates
“Save the dates aren’t necessary, but if your wedding is more than 1 hour away from where most of your guests reside; on a long weekend; or you just want to help ensure your guests have enough notice to attend your wedding, save the dates are a great idea! The design doesn’t have to coordinate with your wedding invitations, and you can use this opportunity to include your engagement photo, or any important information your guests might need like hotel accommodations or your wedding website.” – Heather
6 to 8 months before – design wedding invitations
“Designing any earlier can be tricky because important aspects of your wedding may not be confirmed yet, and/or specifics may change. You don’t want the cost of having to re-print your wedding invitations because your ceremony time needed to be changed. Typical turnaround time for wedding invitation design is 4 to 6 weeks from start to finish, so keep this in mind when booking your consultation.” – Heather
4 months before – mail wedding invitations
“This gives your guests plenty of time to check their calendars, book time off work (if necessary), arrange babysitters, and mail back their reply. You’ll want your replies back 5 weeks before your wedding day to ensure you have enough time to follow up with any guest who you haven’t heard from, so you can have your final numbers to your venue 2 weeks before!” – Heather
6 to 8 weeks before – order day-of stationery
“This includes programs, menus, place cards, table numbers, seating chart, welcome sign, and any other paper items you want for your ceremony and reception. These items can coordinate with your wedding invitations, or be completely different. But they are a perfect (and generally inexpensive) way to add texture and colour to your wedding!” – Heather
3 months after – order and mail thank you cards
“This is a perfect opportunity to choose 1 or more photos from your wedding day to include in the design! Thank you cards are perfect as a flat or folded card, with plenty of room to write a hand written note to each guest.” – Heather
