Staff at The Ring sat down with Kim Reinhardt, Hospitality Manager at Grey Silo Golf Club to find out everything an engaged couple would need to know about this stunning venue.
A glimpse at the history of Grey Silo Golf Club
The Grey Silo Golf Club has been in operation since 2001. It joined the GolfNorth Properties family in 2008. Grey Silo is now one of twenty-five golf courses in the area that is owned and operated by GolfNorth. Presenting golfers with 18 breathtaking holes of championship golf, the links styled course has gained an outstanding reputation and respect from players of all abilities. Grey Silo has hosted the LPGA Manulife Tournament from 2012 to 2014 and many world class female golfers frequent the greens. GolfNorth is also highly involved with the Grand River Hospital for various fundraising events.
The Grey Silo team makes all the difference
When Grey Silo joined the GolfNorth Properties family in 2008, Kim Reinhardt moved over to the club, coming from Dundee Country Club. As the Hospitality Manager at Grey Silo, Kim is a wealth of information and experience with all things wedding. She is responsible for all events, functions, and weddings held at the club. From setting up the room, greeting the bride and groom and making sure everything goes smoothly for the entire day, Kim and her assistant strive to put everyone at ease so they can enjoy the day. It’s Kim’s responsibility to take care of the myriad of details necessary to ensure that brides and grooms can experience and cherish their day, without worrying about the wedding details.
With almost twenty years of experience, Kim gained her experience by working her way up the hospitality ladder. Starting her career as a bartender and server, then moving up to become a supervisor and then a manager, Kim’s hands-on experiences give her valuable insight into every aspect of the business. Having worked at Dundee Country Club for ten years, Kim was responsible for managing all weddings for eight of those years.
“I am the person who sits down and discusses all the details that are involved with the wedding and I am also here on the day of the event to make sure it goes as plan,” Kim says. Brides often have a hundred questions about the venue and what actually happens on the wedding day. Kim strives to inform each bride and assures them that no question is a silly question. For most brides, this is their first time planning a wedding, whereas Kim has helped plan hundreds. “I’ve been doing this for 12 years and I am here to help them with their planning.” Couples also appreciate the fact that Kim is the only person they need to deal with for all wedding questions and enquiries.
As a result of the attention to detail, excellent customer service and teamwork, Kim and her dedicated team have increased the number of weddings hosted at Grey Silo. “We average about 25 weddings per year,” Kim says proudly, adding that they also manage about 60 golf tournaments throughout the year. “My staff offers great customer services and I have lots of compliments from the guests, brides, and grooms about my staff service.”
For Kim, helping couples make their special day the best it can be is inspirational and one of the biggest reasons for coming into work each morning.
Brides and grooms fall in love with the Timber Room banquet hall
This, the main hall at Grey Silo, features a high, vaulted ceiling supported by massive wooden posts and beams, anchored at one end of the room by a large oak bar and at the other, a magnificent fieldstone gas fireplace. This, the ideal setting for either your on-site ceremony or after service reception and dinner, or potentially both, can accommodate a maximum of 130 people. According to Kim, this huge, unique, rustic space, called the Timber Room, is the number one reason brides choose Grey Silo Golf Club, “Our banquet hall is very unique as it is a post and beam construction and is a rustic looking venue.”
For guests wanting a breath of fresh air during the celebration, the wrap-around deck opens off the Timber Room. Perched high above the golf course, the deck provides the perfect place to enjoy a quiet moment, a cocktail or an intimate conversation.
As the structure of the venue offers such natural, rustic appeal, many brides relish the thought of using the simplicity of the Timber Room to eliminate the need for extra decorations. “Our banquet hall does not need a lot of decorations to make it look presentable for a wedding,” Kim admits. Sometimes all it takes to make the hall look incredibly romantic are some candles placed on the mantel. “We have all types of weddings here – from sophisticated to the simplistic wedding,” says Kim. “Our hall can be decorated to the nines or very simply decorated and it looks great both ways.”
And thirdly, for an afternoon or early evening function, the large windows of the Timber Room flood the hall with natural daylight creating a warm ambiance for weddings. Of course, the large windows also allow for a spectacular view of the manicured lawns of the golf course.
All three of these combined elements attribute to a stunning venue.
“Most weddings that come to Grey Silo are looking for that rustic feel. They want things down to earth and simple. They are here to have a fun day and enjoy themselves.”
