Planning a wedding from across the country isn’t always easy but with the amazing help from Grey Silo Golf Club (golfnorth.ca/greysilo) and family members, Sarah and Michael were able to have a beautiful day filled with love and laughter…

Bride & Groom: Sarah Stauffer and Michael Wuskynyk

Wedding Date: April 21, 2018

Ceremony & Reception Location: Grey Silo Golf Course (golfnorth.ca/greysilo)
“First, the location was close to my hometown of Elmira. Grey Silo’s location really captures the beautiful country ambiance of Waterloo Region. Second, Grey Silo Golf Course is fully accessible. This was of utmost importance to us as both of our fathers have mobility issues. Last, in planning a wedding from out of town with many out of town guests, having one location for the ceremony and reception was crucial for the planning process as well as for the convenience of our guests on our wedding day.” – S&M

Colour Palette: Ivory with navy accents. Bright, fresh, spring colours (pinks, oranges, greens, yellows, etc.)

Theme: “We didn’t really have a theme for our day, but we did want the focus to be on family, friends, and fun. We were bringing together family and friends from around the world, and we wanted everyone to have a great time…relax, enjoy the day, and celebrate together.” – S&M

Flowers: Fresh Look Design Inc. (freshlookdesign.ca)”Ainsley put together beautiful creations of bright, beautiful, fresh spring flowers. Lots of pinks, oranges, yellows, and greens in a variety of floral species. My favourite were the peonies.” – S

Décor: Fresh Look Design Inc. (freshlookdesign.ca) “Ainsley brought antique tables for the registry signing, guest and gift table. She also created all of our centrepieces using rustic lanterns, candles and fresh spring flowers. One of the most unique elements was a grand mirror that she wrote out the guest table assignments. We loved it all!” – S

Fav décor element: “The fresh spring flowers. So colourful, and joyful.” – S

DIY: “Table Place cards…this was a very tedious endeavour! Not one I would recommend or ever want to do again. Several last minute guest changes had us scrambling the week of the wedding to finalize the individualized place cards. Special mention to Schelter Office Plus in Elmira for helping us with the specialty printing. And thank you to Lori Massicotte for having a supply of scrap-book cutters to create clean-edge cuts.” – S&M

Invitations/stationery: Everly Invitations/Design by Everly, Edmonton AB. “Amy and I worked together to create classic and elegant invitations that gave a nod to my parents’ wedding invitations from 40 years ago. Letter-press in navy ink on ivory cardstock with a deckled-edge. Simple, elegant, and timeless.” – S

Cake: “My sister-in-law, Natalie Massicotte Stauffer made our cake! Three delicious tiers: vanilla cake with raspberry/lemon filling; chocolate cake with caramel filling; lemon cake with buttercream icing. Finished with fresh spring flowers. Natalie outdid herself, it was a masterpiece!” – S

Wedding favours: “We wanted to give a memento to our guests that captured us as a couple, and highlighted the uniqueness of the Waterloo Region. From my hometown of Elmira we had Maple Syrup from Cleason and Martha Martin. For Michael, a Canadian Armed Forces Veteran, and for many family and friends present at the wedding, we made a donation to Wounded Warriors Canada on behalf of all guests.” – S

Groomsmen and Groom’s attire: Moores Clothing for Men (mooresclothing.com)

Bridesmaids attire and accessories: “My maid of honour chose her own dress from her closet. She was radiant!” – S

Bride’s dress and accessories: Novelle Bridal (novellebridal.com), Edmonton AB. “A special thank you to Jessica who helped me to make my selection…a dress that I had never tried on but ordered anyway. I was so happy with the dress!” – S

DJ: John Blizzard, I Got the Beat (igotthebeat.ca) “He was excellent! John was so personable and had a great read on our group. He had everyone on the dance floor until the end of the night.” – S

Ceremony Music: Matthew and Emily Piche, Adagio Strings (adagiostrings.yolasite.com) “Matthew and Emily provided music before and during the ceremony and then during the cocktail hour. They were a pleasure to work with, and their music was one of the highlights of the wedding for us.” – S

Hair & make-up: HAIR: Allene Chomyn, from Allene Chomyn Hair Design (allenechomyn.com) MAKE-UP: Misti Legge, Make-up by Misti (facebook.com/makeupbymisti) “Both Allene and Misti were FANTASTIC!! True professionals in their respective art. They did hair and make-up for me, my maid-of-honour, Michael’s mom and his sisters. Everyone looked beautiful…the best version of ourselves.” – S

Wedding Planner: Kimberley Reinhardt, Grey Silo Golf Course
“We cannot say enough about Kim Reinhardt and the wonderful staff at the Grey Silo Golf Course. Kim was a joy to work with, and our wedding would not have been as seamless without her expertise. As we were arranging our wedding from a distance, Kim was the glue that brought everything together! Kim was so much fun to work with…professional, well organized, honest, and a great sense of humour. She gave such great advice on menu, décor, and timing details, all things which made our day so very memorable.” – S&M

Hotel: Inn of Waterloo and Conference Centre (theinnofwaterloo.com) “Hosted many of our guests and also took care of hosting a Welcome Reception for our Guests the night before the wedding. Wendy was so gracious in letting us use the lounge area…it was the perfect cozy setting for all of our guests to gather, mix, and mingle. All of the hotel staff were so accommodating to us and our guests. Very excellent service! The appetizers for the Welcome Reception were out of this world delicious!” – S

Shuttle Service: Cherrey Bus Lines (cherreybuslines.com) “Since so many of our guests were from out of town, we had a shuttle pick up at the hotel prior to the ceremony and then return guests back to the hotel at the end of the night. The shuttle service started returning guests at 10 pm, and hourly until the end of the night. A safe ride for all of our guests who were from out of town.” – S

Photographer: “Tina Weltz of Calla Studio (callastudio.ca) in Elmira was our photographer and Gary Evans of Gary Evans Photography (geweddings.ca) was there as a second shooter. Tina is a very dear friend of mine, we have known each other since the age of three. We grew up together and have remained close friends our whole lives. Not only is Tina a dear friend of mine, but she is also a brilliant photographer! It was so special to have Tina there as my friend, but also as our photographer to capture our special day. Not often that you get to dance the night away with your photographer! As Tina was our photographer and guest, she asked Gary to assist in the photos for the day. The pair were a dream-team and should seriously consider working together in the future! Both Tina and Gary have an easy and open demeanour, within seconds you feel at ease. Tina and Gary were able to capture such beautiful memories and candid moments from our wedding day. Our favourite photos from the day are the candid shots of us and our family and friends. It is the candid moments that truly highlight the love and joy of the day. These photos have captured the most intimate and special memories.” – S

Biggest Challenge: “The biggest challenge of planning our wedding was planning from a distance. We live in Edmonton, but we planned our wedding in Waterloo. I relied on my mom and Kim Reinhardt from Grey Silo to help bring everything together. My mom was monumental in finding the venue as I was unable to see them all. After seeing Grey Silo and meeting with Kim, we knew that the venue was the right place to host our wedding. After deciding on the venue, the details came together mostly through phone calls and e-mail. We did what we could in Edmonton (i.e. invitations, dress, ordered suits), and then met with vendors and finalized many details during my winter visit to Ontario. Everyone that we worked with was so incredibly helpful and accommodating to us planning from afar. We were amazed at how smoothly everything came together.” – S&M

Fav wedding memory: “The best memory from our wedding was being surrounded by family and friends and love. The feeling was truly surreal. We had family and friends from around the world, all together in one place, celebrating our wedding day with us. The feeling was greater than anything that we could have ever imagined. Our wedding day flew by so quickly, it truly felt like a dream. We kept looking and smiling at each other, trying to savour every moment. Looking back I still feel like the day was a dream, our day far surpassed any of the hopes or expectations that we had.” – S&M
