{Expert Tip} In Love with Historic Venues

AN EXP ERT TIP BY TheWeddingRing.ca WITH Idlewyld Inn and Spa (♥) (idlewyldinn.com)

If modern chic hotels or glamorous ballrooms just don’t steal your heart, it’s probably the incredible architecture and charm of historic estates, such as Idlewyld, that will have you falling in love with them as your wedding venue.

The Idlewyld mansion was built in 1878 as a private home for former London Ontario Mayor, Charles Smith Hyman (also the Federal Cabinet Minister under Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier, captain of Canada’s most successful national cricket team, and seven times Canadian men’s singles tennis champion).

Aside from the almost century and a half of history that exists within the walls of Idlewyld, it’s the architecture that proves to be an incredible backdrop to any wedding or love story.

Many of the mansion’s original Victorian features survive to this day, including its stunning woodwork, ornate fireplaces, shuttered windows, and the famous Lincrusta-Walton wall paper [Lincrusta is a deeply embossed wallcovering launched by a British inventor in 1877 which was used in royal homes, railway carriages and more].

Historic estates such as Idlewyld allow for incredible photo opportunities, receptions set amid wood beam ceilings and grand fireplaces, and ceremonies in gardens overflowing with flowers.
