Estates of Sunnybrook: Luscious Grounds, Tasteful Décor and Delightful Staff Make This One of Toronto’s Most Sought After Venues
It was a very windy and cold winter day when we visited the Estates of Sunnybrook. But the second we stepped inside the main building on the estate we couldn’t have felt more comfortable. We later learned that we had entered the Vaughn Estate which had undergone some renovations. It was just lovely. The offices of the facility were right upstairs and by then we were very warm and very excited to get a tour. Diane Forrester, the Social Sales Manager, greeted us with a kind smile and we sat down for a bit and spoke about the venue. What really impressed us about Diane was while she had been working at the Estate for some time she was still so full of excitement about the venue. Seeing how cold we looked she offered to drive us from building to building, which really wasn’t necessary although we were quite grateful. She was such a pleasure to talk to and knew so much that afterwards we all agreed “wow, I wish she had helped plan my wedding!”
The Estates of Sunnybrook is a leading event venue located in Toronto, Ontario. The Estates includes three historic buildings – Vaughan Estate, Mclean House, Coach House – nestled on forty tree-filled acres with lush landscaped gardens perfect for an outdoor wedding or special event. Each historic building is now converted into elegant, private event venues perfect for weddings, corporate meetings and social events.
There are three buildings on site and four venues available to host your wedding. We started off in the Vaughn Estate Main Ballroom which was set up for a winter party. It is the largest space and can accommodate up to 150 seated guests. The Vaughn Courtyard Ballroom can accommodate 140 seated guests and there is also a lovely stone walled courtyard patio right off the ballroom. The Arbor, a beautiful wooded setting near the Vaughn is provides an ideal spot for outdoor ceremonies for couples choosing to have their reception in either Ballroom of the Vaughn Estate. Although couples who reserve the Courtyard Ballroom also have the option of using the Courtyard Patio to hold their ceremony.
A few minutes away was Mclean House which we all loved. The main dining room was surrounded by windows and it felt like its own self contained estate venue. There was a gorgeous restored winding wooden banister and lots of great photo opps throughout the house. The capacity for a sit down dinner is 72 making it a great choice for a smaller wedding. The house is bordered by extensive landscaped gardens providing the perfect setting for outdoor ceremonies.
The last space available is the Coach House and there is just one word that can be used to describe it, adorable! It can only seat 40 for a sit-down dinner but it was probably one of the most charming spaces we had ever seen! With its cobblestone structure and arch over the entrance path, it exuded charm and simplicity. The secluded patio would be a nice spot for an outdoor ceremony as well as the small wooden area nearby.
Once you have provided your room rental fee which reserves your date (and a ceremony fee if applicable) you will be assigned an event coordinator who will provide you with a suggestion list package which you can be used to help select vendors, etc. Your coordinator will also go over all the details and timeline of when selections need to be made. The staff finds that most brides only bring in flowers for décor and nothing else, why “gild the lily” as they say. The rooms are very well appointed and couples want to showcase that. The in-house Executive Chef and his culinary team will have you in for a menu tasting as well as look after the bar. For couples looking to reserve the larger spaces it is recommended that you book at least a year to a year and a half in advance. However, Diane told us about one special instance where she actually planned an entire wedding in a week!
Singularity of Sunnybrook
Aside from the free parking and gorgeous landscaping, the delicious food has people falling in love with the venue. Diane says that she has booked many weddings for people who have attended other weddings or events at the Estates and loved the food. Another unique feature of Sunnybrook is that all profits go back to Sunnybrook for the foundation which helps the Sunnybrook Hospital provide the best patient care, purchase new equipment and fund important medical research. In fact, in lieu of traditional wedding favours, Sunnybrook offers a wedding program which allows couples to make a donation in honour of your guests on your special day. As if we needed another reason to love the Estates!
