An Epic Woodland Wedding at Stratford Country Club | Rebecca & Frank

Greenery + wood accents = an epic woodland wedding! Rebecca and Frank wanted to share their love for each other with all of their family and friends. With the Stratford Country Club as the backdrop for their reception they were able to get the ‘woodsy’ feeling that Rebecca had been envisioning…

Bride & Groom: Rebecca Joosse & Frank DeWeerd

Wedding Date: April 27, 2019 “My parent’s 34th wedding anniversary!” – R

Ceremony & Reception Location(s): Stratford Christian Reformed Church & Stratford Country Club (stratfordcountryclub.ca) “We met at and currently attend Stratford CRC together. We view marriage as a promise made between ourselves and God. Our ceremony was intended as a celebration and worship service that we invited our friends and family to witness and be a part of! If we had done a summer wedding, we talked about a tent reception – we both grew up on beautiful farm properties. But with our wedding being in April, outdoor locations weren’t something we attempted. We saw Stratford Country Club and we loved the simplicity and the elegance of their space. For me, the wooden beams, slanted ceiling, and simple chandeliers made the decision almost too easy.” – R

Colour Palette: Navy, Burgundy and Dusty Rose

Theme: “I kept saying “woodland” and “foresty” type feel. I had always pictured a winter wedding and my style tends towards the spruce trees, greenery and darker tones like burgundy and navy. We did end up with a lot of greenery in the décor and a lot of wood accents in the signs, centrepieces, backdrop.” – R

Flowers: Stratford Blooms (stratfordblooms.com).” Amanda was great! She was so calm and organized. We used lots of cedar and eucalyptus with ivory and blush roses. There was also some burgundy Leucadendron in my bouquet and Frank’s boutonniere.” – R

Décor: “We borrowed, combined and worked with what we had! Isabelle from the country club helped guide the vision of our style in their space. Frank had made “wooden plates” from a tree on his family’s property. He also cut down boughs of cedar and they were used in the centrepieces, bouquets, and boutonnieres. The hurricane vases in the centrepieces came from the country club and we used floating candles in water. There were some gold accents – some picture frames, the gold hoops used in the ceremony and backdrop, the table numbers and gold wrapped Rheo Thompson mint smoothies.” – R

Fav décor element: “I loved the wooden plates that Frank made and the golden hoops that my Mom put together.” – R

DIY: “I have a friend who makes beautiful signs and who has beautiful décor ideas in general, and she helped us make the lettering on the wooden signs that Frank made for the wedding. We tried to not take on too many DIY projects!” – R

Invitations/Stationery: “I am a teacher at Stratford & District Christian School. Grade 7/8! I had two Grade 8 students do the designs for our invitations. We used their artwork throughout the invitation and the programs. Getting married in the middle of the school year, I’ll always remember this class! They threw us an engagement party during school in December, most came to the ceremony and they even gave us a gift!” – R

Wedding Favours: “Spruce Trees! Frank ordered 1-year-old white and blue spruce trees. The trees that were leftover are planted on Frank’s family farm. We’re excited to see them grow!” – R

Groomsmen and Groom’s attire:Stars Men’s Shop (starsmenshops.com) “They had knit navy ties, and their boutonnieres were all greenery” – F

Bridesmaids attire and accessories: “The 5 girls were all in different floor length dresses. I had started by looking for a floral dress that included colours that we could find in other dresses. The idea was a mixture of textures and colour. The way the bridesmaid dresses fell together, the colours ended up being navy, burgundy and dusty rose. The 5 girls all wore different dresses – two borrowed, one purchased online and two from White Romance (whiteromance.ca) in Listowel.” – R

Bride’s dress and accessories: “The dress took a while! I got my dress from White Romance (whiteromance.ca) in Listowel. It had the perfect skirt and the top was strapless and fit well. Tisha from White Romance was so patient and helped create the top into something that had a sleeve – which I had hoped for. My mom spent a lot of time looking for a lace that matched and it worked out beautifully! I ordered teardrop earrings with an ivory pearl for my bridesmaids and I wore the same!” – R

DJ: Evan Lewis – Lewis Entertainment (facebook.com/djlewisstratford)” – F

Hair & make-up:Chelsey Geerlinks (facebook.com/chelsdhairn) came out and did our hair at my parent’s farm. We worked together to do our make up!” – R

Photographer: Michael Steingard Photography (michaelsteingard.com) “Michael and Kailyn Steingard! I’ve always loved photography, and Kailyn’s Instagram popped up for me and I loved it! She’s so talented and her photos are gorgeous. I didn’t realize initially that she and her husband were both photographers and both in Stratford. From Kailyn’s work, I found Michael’s, whose work is incredible as well. When Frank and I got engaged, I found out that Michael and Kailyn were also Christians which was a cool connection for us in terms of capturing certain aspects of our ceremony. They work so well as a team (super cute and hilarious) and were so easy going and I had complete faith in their ability to capture our day!” – R

Fav wedding memory: “There are so many! In general, family and friends taking time to be at our wedding and their help through the planning of it. Experiencing their generosity and support was and is so incredible.” – R&F

Advice from one couple to another: “We had a 5-month engagement so this may not apply to everyone! But our advice would be to complete tasks that can be done early as soon as possible. Things like DIY projects, program printing, seating charts, writing speeches, etc. can be so time-consuming!” – R&F
