Elegant minimalism with Joie De Vivre | Ignazio & Michelle

Ignazio and Michelle wanted a wedding that was elegant but with minimalism. They got just that with décor elements from Joie De Vivre (jdveventdecor.com). Along with soft colours and floral accents they were able to achieve a dreamy wedding day…

Bride & Groom: Ignazio Manganaro and Michelle Sinardo

Wedding Date: May 5th, 2018

Ceremony & Reception Location(s): Royal Ambassador Events Centre (theroyalambassador.com)

“For our first look we went to The Westin Toronto Airport Hotel. It has been our go-to stay-cation spot throughout our 7+ years of dating.  It is also where we first said “I love you”.  The Prime Minister’s Suite was the perfect spot for entertaining our immediate family and friends as it boasts plenty of space, tall ceilings, an in-suite piano (and we did hire a pianist), spectacular views and a small rooftop balcony. Booking The Greenhouse at the Royal Ambassador Events Centre for our reception was one of the easiest wedding decisions we made!  We had attended several functions there over the years and knew that their food, service and ambience were simply incomparable.   The ceremony gazebo overlooking the water was exactly where we wanted to exchange vows.” – I&M

Theme: “The overall theme was elegant minimalism, and we achieved this with careful use of décor elements, soft colors and floral accents.” -I&M

Flowers: “We instantly fell in love with Indra Tan of Plush Flowers (plushflowers.ca) and her beautiful arrangements – so much so that we decided to give her full floral creative control.  We’re so glad we did!  She arranged Michelle’s bouquet, the low flower centerpieces, corsages, pew bows and other special floral designs using a combination of fuchsia, blush, and dusty pink roses, white O’Hara garden roses, white ranunculus, purple altromeria, and green hypericum.” -M

Décor: “We were so grateful to have Steven Morgado of JDV Events and Décor (jdveventdecor.com) in our wedding planning corner!  He referred us to so many wonderful vendors and was fundamental in helping us bring our vision to life.  We utilized votive candles, a card birdcage, table draping, special head table elements, and table runners.  All of these enhanced – but didn’t overpower – an already beautiful space.” -I&M

Fav décor element: “Our favourite décor element was the white linen draping on our outdoor ceremony gazebo.  Seeing this for the first time took our breath away!  It was later used by us and guests as a prime picture spot.” -I&M

DIY: “We designed custom invitations, menus, table cards and favor labels using Vistaprint.  Their design consultants were great to work with and ensured that we got exactly what we wanted. ” -I&M

“Doing it “Our Way”:  We had several unique elements on our wedding day, including: a first look with our closest family and friends, walking each other down the aisle, not having a wedding party or Best Man / Maid of Honour, having our mothers sign as our witnesses and delivering 3 separate speeches throughout the night featuring customized vows.  Our guests reflected that our wedding was very “us”.”- I&M

Wedding Planner:Our secret weapon for the day was Vicky Nicholas from Perfect Planners (perfectplannersweddings.com). Vicky and her assistants took care of all of the details both big and small, including: creating our detailed timeline (and ensuring we stuck to it), touching up Michelle’s make-up before big moments, providing crowd control during the ceremony, and taking care of problems we didn’t know existed until after the fact.  Our favorite phrase of the day was, “Go ask Vicky”.” -I&M

MC/DJ: “Our MC was Vince Manganaro, Ignazio’s big brother, from Megawatt DJ Services.  Vince is a master of his craft and there was no other performer that we would trust to bring the party on our big day.  His ability to get a whole room on their feet is unparalleled.  Our DJ was Anthony DiPrincipe from Music In Motion DJ Services (musicinmotiondjservice.com), and he complemented Vince well.  The song timing, seamless song transitions and high degree of interaction with our guests helped the party keep going all night long.” -M

Live Music: “We also had three live musicians playing throughout the night: 1) Pianist – Liz Craig (lizcraig.ca) – Liz providing an exceptional piano performance at our intimate First Look event.  It was a pleasure for us (and our guests) to hear Liz perform both our custom song requests and the songs already in her large repertoire.  Her performance set the tone for the day. 2) Organetto – Claudio Santaluce (claudiosantaluce.com) – We were graced with Claudio’s epic vocal and organetto performance for the antipasto bar portion of our dinner service.  His blend of traditional Sicilian songs and beloved Italian classics was easily consumed by the adoring crowd. 3) Cello and Violin – Beaux Strings (beauxstrings.com) – Beaux Strings provided an epic violin and cello performance during dinner.  As wrestling and Disney fans, we especially loved our custom grand entrance song (the WWE Theme of Shinsuke Nakamura) and post-speech song (The Little Mermaid’s Part of Your World).” -I&M

Favors: “We went for a modern spin on traditional Italian wedding favors with customized candies from Papabubble (papabubble.com).  The candies said “I & M” and were watermelon flavored.  You can watch them make candy (and sample some too) at their storefront in Toronto.  Yum!” -I&M

Ring Boxes: “Our friend Aaron (etsy.com/shop/MtnManWood) made us custom ring boxes out of reclaimed wood engraved with “I & M” and “5-5-18”.  This added yet another personalized touch to our day.” -I&M

Groom’s Suit: “Ignazio wore a bespoke purple suit, complete with monogrammed detailing, made by Sushant Vachhar and staff from King & Bay (mykingandbay.com).  This suit turned heads, and was the perfect blend of modern and traditional.  We’ve been to other family weddingS since our own and people still rave about his suit!” -M

Bride’s dress and accessories:Michelle purchased her Maggie Sottero gown, veil, and headband from Superior Bridal (superiorbridal.com).  This family-owned and operated salon in Markham provided exception knowledge and customer experience and was a delight to work with.” -I

Photographer: “We discovered Daniel Clements Photography (danclementsphoto.com) at a wedding show.  He was easy to talk to, obviously talented and refreshingly clear about his offerings.  We both had a good feeling about him and booked him soon after the show.   After seeing our engagement and wedding photos, we continue to be in awe of what he can do with a camera.  Part of the fun was watching all the ways he would try to execute the perfect shot, including: lying in the bushes, hiding behind things, and traipsing in the fields to catch the sunset.” -I&M

Biggest challenge: “The biggest challenges we faced was keeping our guest list down to the capacity of the venues, the seating chart and keeping all of our ideas within budget.   Our greatest tool to help us tackle these challenges was time. Our 2-year engagement afforded us the opportunity to consider all options, research different price points and consult with family.” -I&M

Fav wedding memory: “The best memory we have is not leaving each other’s side for the entire day and night (except for bathroom breaks!). Lots of our guests commented on how we were inseparable and that is something that makes us smile when we look back on our day.” -I&M

Advice from one couple to another: “We have 2 pieces of advice to offer:  1) Start planning immediately as time is your friend; and 2) Be true to yourselves despite differing opinions from others.” – I&M
