Self described “country bumpkins” Mandy & Jason knew that her parents farm was the ideal place for them to tie the knot. And they were right. The couple’s wedding day was filled with country, in addition to extensive DIY elements and rustic personal touches.

RECEPTION LOCATION: Mandy’s parents home in Arthur, ON

$$ WHAT WE SAVED THE MOST ON: “Our decor – we handmade almost everything!”
FAVOURITE DECOR ELEMENT: “Our backdrop and centrepieces, they set the stage for our Rustic Elegance theme!”

“Our reception was held in a beautiful tent. Since the wedding was held in a field after a harvest, the ground was quite prickly on the feet. In order to prevent our guests from having sore feet, we laid astro turf where the tables sat and had wood shavings outlining the pathways to the bar, dance floor and exits. When our guests entered the tent, they looked directly at our beautiful handmade barn board backdrop with little white light accents.”

Each table was decorated with cream coloured tablecloths and purple napkins. Asian style lanterns in purple, green and cream colours hung from the ceiling above the dance floor.

For their centrepieces, the couple spray painted mason jars in different sizes. Candles were places in smaller jars and an assortment of flowers in the largest jars on each table. They sat on slices of wood to give the table a truly rustic feel. For Mandy, the centrepieces were a labour of love, but well worth it in the end. “We sliced the wood, nailed table numbers to them, wrapped string around every mason jar and then spray painted them all. In the end we did over 400 jars! They set the stage for our rustic elegance theme.”

Says Mandy, “I loved everything about our décor! Even though it was a large tent, it felt very intimate.”

Advice, one bride to another: “Invest in a good photographer… you won’t regret it! We loved everything about Sheila Braam and would recommend her again and again. “
