The ultra modern, high style Delta Waterloo is one of Waterloo region’s newest venues – and the ultimate location for a luxe wedding

Since September 2014, the Delta Waterloo Hotel has been welcoming guests and hosting events, including some of the area’s most stylish weddings. This venue is modern, packed full of great amenities and beautiful ballrooms, is home to the very popular Proof Kitchen + Lounge, and – for guests saying overnight – is home to high-end hotel rooms and suites, a large sleek pool room complete with fireplace, and more.

Staff at the Ring sat down with Michael Mangone, Conference Services Manager, to find out everything a couple needs to know to plan a Delta Waterloo wedding…

The team at the Delta Waterloo is comprised of Michael Mangone, Conference Services Manager, Greg Laforest, Banquet Manager, Drew Howitt, Banquet Supervisor and Michael Rink, Director of Sales and Marketing.

As of now, and still being fairly new to the area. Delta Waterloo sees an average of eight to ten weddings per year. And while Michael describes the venue as modern, he says that Delta Waterloo’s style suits any bride’s vision. He says brides choose the Delta Waterloo because of the staff service, attention to detail and quick response time to inquiries – something that can be rare with busy event venues like this.

Michael meets with the couple’s first and to help them through all the initial planning steps of their wedding day. From booking their date to answering any questions that pop up along the way, Michael is there to help them. Greg and Drew will answer any set-up questions and are the couple’s point of contact on the wedding day. Chef Dem Neumann, Proof Kitchen + Lounge Banquet Chef, is also a huge part of the wedding planning and execution.

“Greg and Drew are the main contacts on the day of events,” explains Michael. “They are responsible for staffing, working with coordinators and vendors on the day of the wedding and ensuring service runs smoothly. Chef Dem is responsible for carrying out the wedding event order and providing feedback on menu choice and quantity of food.”

According to Michael, brides love the value they get for their money, as well as not having to share the venue space with other weddings.

Offering hotel rooms and suites of various size, from Deluxe Suites to the Presidential Suite, Delta Waterloo is a fabulous destination for guests, the bride and groom to stay at. “It allows family to all stay in one place and not have to travel around the city to get to different venues,” says Michael, adding that the hotel’s current incentives exist with opportunity for complimentary guestrooms and shuttle. The Hotel caters to all budget types. “We are able to customize options and menus to fit any budget.”

Bobbie Kennedy has been in the wedding industry for 13 years and when she was looking at places to get married, she wanted a venue that wasn’t one of the most popular ones or a venue where a friend had gotten married.

“Also being New Year’s Eve, I wanted a venue that was a hotel,” explains Bobbie. “I wanted my guest to party the night away and not have to worry about driving home or trying to catch a cab on such a big holiday. The minute I walked into the Delta Waterloo I knew I wanted to get married there,” admits Bobbie. “The hotel is so glamorous, it almost has an old Hollywood feel to it. I originally wanted to get married in Toronto, but it was far too expensive on New Year’s Eve and The Delta gave me that urban Toronto feel, but in the heart of my hometown. I loved their colour scheme the most – the mix of warm woods with grey and silver metal and glass. The hotel has a touch of sparkle in it that makes you feel like a celebrity,” describes Bobbie, adding that she also loved the beautiful light fixtures that hang from the ballroom.

The Hotel offers a la carte menus and options, starting at $38.00 per person. This includes a four course meal, plus the event space fee. All-inclusive plated or buffet options start at $119.00 per person, plus the event space. To rent the ceremony space, it starts at $500.00.

When Lisa Rourke got engaged to Andrew, she called several venues to explore their options. Although they had pretty much decided on their “perfect” wedding, they had an appointment booked at the Delta, and they thought they should follow through.

“We were really impressed from the moment we got there.  The driveway circling the front entrance and the main doors were lovely.  The foyer was modern, clean and bright.  I loved the staircase going up to the second floor where the banquet hall was, and right away pictured a group picture there,” explains Lisa.  “We were given a tour of all of the possible rooms that were available and each had lovely windows and tasteful, modern décor.  The bathrooms were very elegant as well.  We were then shown the Presidential Suite – that was provided to us at a discounted rate.  It was modern and stunning – lots of space for getting ready before the ceremony and the pre-wedding celebrations.   Since our wedding was in March, we had already long decided that we wanted to have the dinner, ceremony and reception all in one location in case of bad weather.  The fact that we had many out of town guests who would require overnight accommodations, we immediately felt that the Delta Waterloo would be perfect.  No one would have to drive anywhere once they arrived.  We had already looked at the banquet menu online and were very impressed with the variety of unique offerings. There was also lots of on-site parking which they offered free to all of our guests.   In short, all of the elements that were important to us, were accommodated at the Delta.”

For Michael, meeting new people every single day and knowing he’s helping to make their wedding day vision come to life is his biggest reason for coming to work every day. Michael graduated from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts, Communication Studies, as well as earning an Ontario College Graduate Certificate, Public Relations and Event Management, Sault College

“I have worked with brides/grooms on guest room blocks in my previous role and in my current role I have planned, detailed and executed many weddings on site since I started,” he says.

Lisa describes the Delta Waterloo as clean, bright, modern and fresh: “We are so happy with our venue choice.  Everything was there – it was classy, elegant, high quality, accommodating, courteous, excellent value,” says Lisa, adding that Michael was great to work with. “He was extremely accommodating and responsive to our requests.  There was lots of back and forth exchanges of ideas, collaboration and conversation.  He was timely in his responses and I felt he had a good grasp on the “atmosphere” we wanted to create for the day, and offered great suggestions that would enhance that.  All of the staff we came into contact with during the planning stages, the day of and the day after the wedding, were so VERY cooperative and accommodating.  They treated us like it was a special day – which it was!”

Bobbie doesn’t have a favourite memory of the day, but she admits that her entire wedding was a dream come true and the Delta Waterloo helped make that happen.

“Michael is so easy to work with. The entire staff is great. I seriously have no complaints and would recommend the Delta Waterloo to everyone,” says Bobbie.

“So many great moments from getting ready with my girls in the elegant Presidential suite to the soft and romantic atmosphere created in the ceremony space, to seeing all of our guests tearing up the dance floor and the constant line-up at the bar and photo booth,” says Lisa, when asked what her favourite memory was.

  • Total flexibility for ceremony, cocktail hour and reception timing. Typically only one wedding on site at a time.
  • Total all-inclusive wedding destination – rehearsal, ceremony, reception/dinner, guest rooms and morning-after brunch.

According to Lisa, the price was very comparable to other venues and in many cases, she discovered that the Delta was considerably less.

“We had the advantage of some “extras” thrown in because of the time of year.  The prices definitely matched the value we received! We went over budget, but that was only because we wanted to throw a great party for all of our friends and family,” she says. “All of our guests were very impressed with the facilities and food!”

“The Delta Waterloo has great prices and based on value, presentation, taste, etc., I got way more then I paid for! I would say, from my experience in the industry, they have very reasonable prices,” says Bobbie. “The price per plate falls within the range of $100-$125 a plate. Today’s industry, the average price is $140 to $180. So they are very reasonable and competitive. I also feel like they could accommodate to any budget and any bride or groom!”
