Deer Ridge Golf Club in Kitchener features a modern clubhouse set on a gorgeous 18-hole golf course. Deer Ridge is a private, member-owned golf club which has 400 members. The exclusive club is open for weddings and offers beautiful views from the patio overlooking the golf course and the Grand River Valley, making it an ideal location to host your ceremony and reception.
What to expect…
On the day of the wedding, the entire team of food and beverage professionals at Deer Ridge come together to execute the wedding of your dreams, ensuring everything goes according to plan. The entire team is focused on making the day perfect. Laura Shackleton, Director of Food and Beverage, and your on-site wedding guru says that customer service and making people happy are their top priorities.
Throughout your planning process you’ll get to meet the team that you’ll be working closely with. Laura, the Director of Food & Beverage is the person that meets with couples from the first site visit to quotes to tastings. They take care of everything from day of set up, organization, contact person for vendors, wedding execution if an on-site ceremony is taking place, as well as all food and beverage services throughout the night and of course, clean up.
Alicia Hucsko, the Head Chef meets with couples for menu design, tasting, as well as on the wedding day to oversee all food execution and plating.
“Years before we were engaged, we were at a brunch at Deer Ridge and sitting on the patio which overlooked the golf course,” says Michael Bortolussi. “We both made a comment about how picturesque the scenery was. Years later when we were discussing options for our wedding, we both knew that we wanted to have our ceremony outside and we both came back to the beauty of the balcony and how amazing it would be to get married overlooking the golf course and greenery. We were thrilled that the weather was perfect the day of our wedding to accommodate this dream!”
Kelly Barnett choose Deer Ridge for her wedding because of the beautiful setting and because it fit within their budget.
“Even with so many options in the community, we felt like all the venues had been done before. It seemed as though we knew a couple that got married at all the venues within our budget and we wanted something unique,” she says.
“The clubhouse at Deer Ridge is neutral in colour and has rustic elements like stone and wood, so couples have a lot of free range to work with,” says Michael. “The dining room is a great size; it is open and spacious but felt very intimate when we were hosting our guests. The clubhouse has large windows which showcase the beauty of the outdoors and the patio is large enough to accommodate table and chair furniture, stand-alone tables and all our guests. The lawns and landscaping are exquisitely maintained which becomes a beautiful backdrop for pictures. We had our ceremony on the patio, overlooking the 18th hole and a large forest, but the backup plan if the weather didn’t cooperate was to have the ceremony inside the clubhouse in front of the large stone fireplace.”
A wedding at Deer Ridge…
The venue offers a full ceremony location both indoors and outdoors, as well as a reception venue for 130 guests. With 4 course packages and customized menus, there are lots of options to choose from and according to Laura, your guests will have ample food!
With limited weddings booked throughout the year, couples are guaranteed that their wedding will be the only one taking place that day.
“Couples receive one-on-one service,” says Laura, adding that the club takes care of everything from planning and organizing to set up and execution. “We’re very good with working with outside vendors.”
According to Kelly and Michael, Laura was one of the best things about Deer Ridge.
“From the first meeting she was professional and so easy to work with. She was quick to respond to emails and eager to help however she could. If she wasn’t sure about something, she would find out and she usually figured out a way to accommodate us! On the day of our wedding she was organized, the food was so delicious (and hot), it was served on time, and everything ran so smoothly,” says Kelly. “If you decide to have your wedding at Deer Ridge Golf Club, you can feel confident leaving the details of your day with Laura – she’ll knock it out of the park.”
“Laura was an absolute joy to work with,” says Michael. “From our very first meeting, she was very willing to offer suggestions and to also accommodate our wishes. We had a trial taste-test dinner which helped us to decide our food for the wedding day and Laura and the head chef accommodated dietary restrictions and some of our favourite dishes and flavors into the meal. They even let us pick two mini desserts for our wedding meal since we couldn’t decide between the two! Laura and the Deer Ridge team worked seamlessly throughout the wedding day. They were efficient taking down our ceremony chairs and setting up outdoor tables and lanterns for the cocktail hour. There was a chance of rain that day and Laura let us wait until 20 minutes before the ceremony to make the decision of an outdoor or indoor ceremony. We didn’t have to ask for anything that day; Laura and her team took care of everything, including packing up all of our items when the evening was over.”

“The prices are Deer Ridge were exactly what we expected – they were within our budget and similar to other venues in the area,” admits Michael. “When we were looking through the options there were a number different price ranges for food and drink that would work for any wedding budget. We liked how the cocktails/drinks, appetizers, main course, desserts and late-night buffets were all made on site and included in the price, but that we could bring in our own wine and cupcake vendors into the space. We had a number of compliments on the food that evening.”
“When it came to the cost of our wedding – the venue and the food – we honestly feel like we found a hidden gem,” says Kelly. “The prices at Deer Ridge Golf Club were more than reasonable; they came in under our budget when a lot of venues in town were far above. Laura was great in accommodating what we wanted, and we didn’t have to choose a package that gave us options we didn’t want. We were thrilled with the value and would recommend it to anyone looking for a venue in the area.”
