Reviewing Janine Roth at Chase Photography

Chase Photography strives to illustrate your love story through artistic wedding, engagement and portrait photography. Located in Kitchener, Owner Janine Roth loves the editing process as much as she loves shooting the weddings themselves. Janine goes above and beyond on every shoot.

Putting clients at ease in front of the camera, and just having fun with photography on your wedding day, the couples we interviewed were unanimous; she was the photographer for them. We sat down with Janine Roth to learn more about what this photographer has to offer couples.

About Chase Photography…

Janine Roth attended the Conestoga College Photography Program. She began to work as a second shooter for other local professional photographers in the wedding industry. She never thought it would grow to be a full time gig.

Janine explains, “To be completely honest, when I started shooting weddings, I thought it would be something I would do maybe 5 times a year…” But she found herself falling in love with capturing these incredible days. “Here I am, seven years and 200 weddings later, and I’m still having fun!”

When asked what the biggest reason for coming into work each morning is, Janine says she feels like there is a text book answer and then the real answer. She explains, “I love editing and watching the photos come to life. First of all I love photographing the wedding, but it all goes by so fast. There is always the next photo or the next moment. And while I’m checking my photos every so often on the back of my camera, to sit down and really look at the moments I capture, that’s what I love. I hand edit every photo – I don’t batch process.”

Going above and beyond…

After having shot so many weddings, Janine jokes that sometimes she feels like a parent because she wears so many hats during the day of the wedding. “If there is no wedding coordinator, that task naturally comes to me. I have helped brides put their dresses on, the groom and his men with ties, boutonnieres and pocket squares. I’ve assisted parents with their speeches, and I always give the bride and bridesmaids some portrait tips. As I said there are many aspects to being a photographer. I am the one vendor who spends the whole day with the wedding party, so there are many different roles I help with during the day.”

Before Shannon Long was engaged, she had done a boudoir shoot with Janine. “Because of how happy I was with our photo shoot and how comfortable she made me feel, it was a no brainer to hire her for our wedding. She was also super flexible and agreed to come up north to my grandparent’s cottage for our engagement shoot, which was very meaningful to me.” On the day of Shannon’s wedding, Janine worked as a coordinator and gave the bridal party a timeline to work with for the day. “I’m not crazy about having my picture taken, but she makes it effortless and fun. She will also give you modeling tips before taking pictures if you want to help bring out the best angles.”

Making photo shoots effortless, fun…

Although Chase Photography didn’t shoot Andrea Janus wedding, Janine did do a bridal shoot with Andrea. “I heard from an acquaintance that Chase Photography did those types of shots and decided to try it,” explains Andrea. “We clicked immediately! She was fun, personable and really collaborated on how to style the shoot. Janine certainly has a unique style and perspective. She’s not afraid to try new things. She got to know me a little before the shoot so that she could deliver the types of photos I was hoping to get. She creates beautiful timeless images with a great artistic twist.” One of Andrea’s favourtie memories was climbing up into an old dusty window in her wedding dress. “Janine had this great vision for a shot and asked if I’d be willing to try it. The image turned out beautifully because she shot from below.”

“Janine was incredible before, during and after our wedding,” says Alexis Morrison. “We hired Chase Photography because we love Janine’s natural style of photography. She made us both feel very relaxed and at ease while shooting us and her prices was very competitive.”

Janine works with a number of second photographers. She trusts them to be by her side during events. “Many of my second photographers have over five years of experience in the wedding industry and also run their photography companies. We’re like a small family. I photograph as a second photographer for them when they need and vice versa.”

Chase Photography’s services…

Being able to read people and gauge what they need is something that Janine believes she offers her clients. “For introverted people, a wedding can be very overwhelming and I am aware of when they need some down time,” says Janine. “Extroverts are the opposite and require an energy-filled day.” With over 200 weddings under her belt, Janine also believes her experience is an asset. “I refuse to have the know-it-all-attitude. I am always open to a couple’s ideas and opinions. I can’t tell you how much I have learned from my couples over the years.”

Chase Photography’s most popular package is the Gold Collection. This includes up to 10 consecutive hours of coverage, and according to Janine it’s the perfect fit for most couples.

“I’m very down to earth and real,” she says. “Many of my brides have become great friends of mine. I have a lot of experience and know how to help the couple plan a successful wedding day schedule.” Janine feels that she attracts the non-traditional creative and outgoing brides. She is open to both destination and local weddings. Shannon describes Chase Photography’s style as artistic and creative.

“Janine makes an effort to make sure all of her pictures are flattering and capture the best of her clients. Janine is professional, yet extremely personable. “She worked with my Pinterest board for shots I wanted and also her own creative ideas. Janine is passionate about her work and is
super organized!”

“She captured some very special moments,” says Shannon. “We had issues with timing because of our venue and Janine worked with us to do a second bridal shoot so we could get the shots we weren’t able to get the day of.”

“Janine has an ability to capture a moment in its natural beauty,” says Alexis. “She is very warm, genuine and friendly. She also admits that Janine was quick to accommodate their schedule. “She was prepared and had her own wonderful suggestions, but was also open to any ideas of our
own.”

Chase Photography’s packages…

Chase Photography’s prices range from $2500 to $3800 and 8 to 12 hours of coverage. We asked their past clients if they felt that their photography prices were reasonable. Shannon says that Chase’s packages were average in price yet came with SO many photos that the value was great. “I’ve since recommended her to friends. The time and effort she puts into editing is appreciated.”

“Once I checked out the prices, I thought they were reasonable for what I would be getting,” admits Andrea. “After the shoot I was very happy with the results and the overall experience. Well worth the money!”
