Cameron Shaver (the owner, photographer and DJ) is naturally talented and has an obvious passion for documenting and playing a part in local Kitchener-Waterloo weddings. Whether you hire him for photography, to be your DJ, or for both, Cameron Shaver is focused on making your day happen the way you envisioned, at a price you can afford. But your wedding is more than just a list of services and package details to Cameron; “What I really love most is capturing the moment, telling a story, having an outlet for my creativity and creating a final product that I can be proud of.”

So, with an impressive portfolio, easy to choose packages, certifications backing up his multiple talents and some incredible feedback from couples who love him, Cameron Shaver is clearly a ‘favourite’ amongst K-W area couples for their wedding day. Let us explain…

In-house talent makes the difference

When Cameron started his own entertainment business in 1999, one of the first things he found was that he could not afford to pay professionals to do what he needed to have done. “I had to do it all myself,” explains Cameron. “I had to figure out how to build a website, record a CD, edit in Photoshop and adjust an aperture all on a tight budget.” Now, more than ten years later, his goal is to provide high quality and professional digital media and entertainment services at a price people, like him, can afford.

Cameron has a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education, plus Level 1 and 2 photography certifications from Conestoga College. He has also taken several Mac Pro training courses, such as Motion, Aperture and Final Cut Pro, but says that he is primarily self-taught because he has a natural passion for digital media.

Though there is an option for an additional camera operator or photographer (depending on the package you book), Cameron is the sole contact through the entire process. “That way there is no chance of miscommunication or differing approaches,” he says. “You only deal with me. I get to know you really well and I am your only point of contact. You don’t have a crew of people that you have to explain the details of your big day to over and over again.  By being your photographer and dj it also gives me great insight into ”

Cameron Shaver Photography has officially been in business since 2007 but he has been indulging his creativity on the side for many years. Today, he offers does roughly twenty to thirty weddings per year. “What I really love most is capturing the moment, telling a story, having an outlet for my creativity and creating a final product that I can be proud of.”

Amanda and Matt Cole told The Ring about a favourite memory of Cameron on their wedding day. Says Amanda, “Cameron had warned me about the low ceilings in our venue so, when I was tossing my bouquet, I should keep it low. Well, I thought I was doing it right but was toooo excited to see that it hit the ceiling and fell straight behind me! Cameron took the most amazing shots of the whole thing happening and we all laughed about it! He offers a GREAT price, he’s a GREAT guy and takes GREAT photos!”

His style for yours

Cameron tends to have a more photojournalistic style, trying to capture the moments naturally while remaining flexible. “I enjoy being spontaneous and creative… I like helping the couple capture their day the way they would want to remember it.”

Madonna and John Coghill found Cameron to be friendly and professional when they worked with him for their October wedding photography and DJing. “He made us feel very comfortable… and let us do what we wanted; when we had a suggestion, he encouraged it. He also had good ideas if we weren’t sure what to do.”

Ron & Karen Charron appreciated Cameron’s professionalism with their daughter’s October wedding so much that they hired him again for their son’s June wedding. They loved that he provided classic poses as well as artistic photographs. “Cameron is a true professional,” adds Ron. “He organized the wedding party and family for shots that he thought would work well, but also allowed for special requests from the bride, the groom and their parents.”

Personality and results are what counts

Cameron knows his personality plays a part in the reason his couples choose him. He’s easy to talk to and when it comes to the things that matter to your wedding plans and your day, he’s realistic.

Krystle and Paul Komaranski remember some of their favourite moments with Cameron, “He had us laughing the whole time we did anything. Our engagement shoot was so much fun! The weather was kind of crummy both for our engagement shoot and our wedding day but that didn’t dampen anyone’s spirit because Cameron kept things light and fun. He cracked jokes while trying to figure out where we were going to take the next picture in the cold. Everything was memorable… he was an integral part of our big day!”

One of the things that Jessica and George Michael liked about Cameron Shaver was his laid back personality and general niceness. “He took the time to really get to know us and what we were looking for in both our photography and DJ.” They had Cameron DJ for their stag and doe and wedding, as well as photograph their wedding day and thought that finding his multiple services and reasonable prices was a great discovery.

Helen and Aron Broom appreciated how helpful Cameron was, right from the beginning of their planning process. Helen explains, “He had many valuable suggestions for us, but was also ready to work around whatever plan we came up with. Cameron was so helpful and easy going… we didn’t have to organize a thing. I was so thankful to Cameron, in fact, two of the guests at my wedding loved our photos so much that they hired Cameron soon after.”

Cameron keeps his prices in a range he feels is reasonable and that will draw in customers who are down to Earth about their big day, but Cameron says that it’s results that generate the referrals from clients that keep his business going. “I’ll encourage you to plan the day you want to have, regardless of tradition.” By being a photographer and dj Cameron is able to get to know his clients on a completely different level as a bride or groom’s musical tastes allow for great insight into their personality.

Gary and Kristen say they were instantly drawn to Cameron’s work and knew they would hire him for their summer wedding day, “Cameron was recommended by a friend located in the KW region. Cameron provided both photography and DJ services at our wedding and we loved the convenience of coordinating and working with one vendor instead of two… we liked his creative shots and he was very easy to work with.”
