March 2010 bride, Kim Simmermaker, has always loved the classic look of red, white and black weddings; but, she and her groom, Chris, are both a fun, non-traditional couple, they wanted to add a bit of personality to their wedding. to make it more than to their colour scheme. And so they did - with a 1920s gangster theme that mixes vintage style, classic colours, bad boys and plenty of fun photo opps. Kim loved their theme, saying "There is just something sexy and classy about the 1920s."

The date was set for March 13, 2010 - the couple's tenth dating anniversary, and The Crowne Plaza in Niagara Falls was booked. Little Details made the invitations that set the theme for the day right from the beginning (see below).

80 guests attended the intimate ceremony and reception in which the guys wore pin striped suits from Tuxedo Royale and wore fedoras. The bridesmaids had flapper-style dresses that they got from Bridal Depot and accented their look by carrying feathered fans instead of flowers. Each girl also wore a different feather piece in her hair.

Kim's wedding gown came from Ballet’s in Kitchener and was accented with a feather hair piece and birdcage veil. She added subtle touches of red to her ensemble for a pop of colour, including red shoes and nail polish.

Kim was walked down the aisle by both her dad and step dad.

Kim has always dreamed of carrying a rich bouquet filled with red roses on her wedding day. Her bouquet, which was accented by sparkly jewels, was made by her aunt, filled with roses. Her aunt also made her parents' boutonnières/corsages.

The reception continued at {VENUE NAME & LINK} the 20s theme and Kim and Chris' non-traditional outlook in that it was meant to be a fun party. That's why the pair opted out serving a full plated menu and instead, served a variety of hot and cold hors d'oeuvres throughout the night while guests danced and mingled. Among the hors d'oeuvres were mini burgers and fries!

Guests were also treated to a candy buffet in lieu of a cake. "We wanted something non-traditional, we are not cut the cake kind of people," say Kim and Chris. The couple put the candy bar themselves by buying bulk candy and vases. "It was so popular!"

The wedding party walked into the reception to "Jump, Jive and Wail" by The Brian Setzer Orchestra - a perfect swingin' song to set the tone.

Adding talent to seniment, Chris played the guitar while his father sang the songs that Kim danced to with her dad and step dad. "It really made the moment special," Kim remembers.

Décor, done by Cindy Hefferan of Now & Always, (www.nowandalways.ca) really pulled together all of the details of the day with tons of feathers and a chandelier over the dance floor. Street lights also adorned the reception, giving it an old world feel.

Kim says that Now & Always went above and beyond her expectations. "Cindy understood what we were going for, it was like she was reading my mind." The couple wanted the room to look elegant, dark and romantic, and with Cindy's help, they definitely pulled it off.

The natural ambiance of the room helped too with its wall of windows overlooking the Falls. Tablecloths, chair covers and a ceiling swag were all black and finished off with mini lights and lots of candles. Then tables were accented with centrepieces of red roses and black feathers that were set among artificial diamonds sprinkled across the tables.

Guests took home bottles of wine made by Chris' Aunt and Uncle with custom labels, also done by Little Details, and the memory of a fabulous affair.
