Gabriela Alcalde and David Kinahan’s love story began in a high school calculus class when Gabriela asked Dave for help with her homework. Perhaps she truly needed help or perhaps there were ulterior motives at work. Either way, the two were soon inseparable and what started out as a sweet high school crush, now adds up to fourteen years together. And that was just their beginning.

Gabriela says that the way that she and Dave approached life together was what made her realize that he was the person she wanted to share her life with. “I love how funny and kind Dave is and how he loves me and takes care of me.”

Dave had planned to surprise Gabriela by slipping a diamond on her finger as she slept. He wanted her to wake up to a diamond and four words she’d never forget. But, he didn’t get very far into his plan before Gabriela woke up to his touch, though he still got to pop the question. Gabriela said yes and made that morning one that they’d always remember.

Gabriela and Dave marked September 12, 2009 on their calendar and began planning a large, elegant, 175 guest wedding. They wanted more than just style though. They wanted it to be a fun day they could enjoy with their friends and family.

Gabriela’s two sisters were bridesmaids, Dave’s childhood friend was his best man, and three university friends were groomsmen. Dave’s niece and nephew also played the parts of adorable flower girl and ring bearer. Plenty of peacock blue, dark charcoal grey, soft cream and ivory, and vibrant touches of pink were used throughout their day.

Invitations were ordered from WeddingPaperdivas.com - a simple, heavy cardstock that was tied to the reception and RSVP cards with a satin ribbon. A customized stamp was also used for the envelopes.

The bridesmaids wore peacock blue Melissa Sweet dresses and carried bouquets of white with a hint of light green and yellow flowers (commercial mums, freesia, nimbo roses, Dutch tulips, and Israeli ruscus). Gabriela also gave them Tiffany necklaces to wear for the day. The guys wore dark charcoal tuxedos and grey vests with cymbidium orchid boutonnières.  Dave’s boutonnière was made with a white phalaenopsis orchid, yellow mouth and finished with clean greens and black tail.

Gabriela wore a sexy, strapless Pronovias gown, Oscar de la Renta heels, customized earrings, and a to-die-for bracelet from Made You Look. She walked down the aisle with an all white and ivory bouquet made up of dahlias, Dutch tulips, ranunculus, lisianthus, ornithogalum arabicum, freesia, and Israeli ruscus, accented with an antique brooch.
