Reviewing Herbert W. Mitterboeck, General Manager, St. George Banquet Hall Conference & Events Centre
Review is written by Staff @ The Ring and is based on • Interviews with this vendor
Early in the summer of 2006, when St. George Banquet Hall unveiled a luxurious, palatial ceremony and reception venue, the expectations of many local brides and grooms were exceeded. Now, St. George has certainly gained a reputation as an elegant, high-class wedding locale, and has become popular among local couples, having taken on over forty weddings in their first year alone. We recently sat down with General Manager, Herbert W. Mitterboeck to find out what's new now that the much-anticipated reception location has been booked solid for the past four years. Here's what we discovered…
A fixture in the community
St. George Banquet Hall Conference & Events Centre has been a fixture in North Waterloo for over twenty years. Known for their corporate clients and high-end events, this locale has always put as much focus on customer service and event expertise, as any other part of an event centre business. General Manager Herbert W. Mitterboeck says that the additional building, added in 2006, was designed to carry on that tradition by giving people what they want, exceeding their expectations, maintaining a high reputation, and making sure everyone that goes through their doors does so wanting to come back. "If we make each event a memorable experience for the couple and their guests, they will want to come back for more. That's good business. That's the way it should be."
Now that the addition has had four years to cater to local brides and grooms, it certainly seems as though they've managed to build that high reputation they set out for. In fact, when we first discovered St. George, they required couples to book only six to twelve months in advance, now Herbert recommends booking fourteen to sixteen months in advance – that's how booked this much-loved locale has become!
Service with a smile & expertise go a long way
Herbert has a BA in Hotel Management and forty years of experience in the hotel and restaurant management industry. He has started and run a successful family hotel in Vienna, and has worked in over eleven different countries. Herbert has been using his impressive resume at St. George Banquet Hall since just before their grand opening in 2006, with no plans to change direction. When you ask him about his position at St. George Banquet Hall, Herbert says that it's meeting people and making them happy that he likes best. He can't comprehend any reason to take the frustrations of a crazy-busy industry out on a client. Ever. "If you're grumpy, get out of the business."
An event centre unveiled
In 2006, St. George Banquet Hall took its already popular locale and expanded it in space, options and flexibility. The event centre was designed to offer a unique look that measures up to its name, appearance and reputation. The neutral décor offers an attractive backdrop that welcomes your own theme, colours, and style of your wedding day without interfering with them.
When you visit, you'll be escorted beneath crystal chandeliers through its three beautiful banquet rooms that can be filled to capacity with your 120 to an impressive 800 wedding guests. It's easy to envision hosting both your ceremony and reception in this one location with the help of on-site staff and coordinators. There is more than enough space and staff present to guide the details so that you can concentrate on saying 'I do'.
Décor: A princess wedding
When you first enter St. George Hall you can't help but admit that this is the place for a princess wedding - a potentially very large one. It has an overall atmosphere of romance with crystal chandeliers, bridal suites with hardwood floors and contemporary furnishings, pot lights on dimmer switches, neutral colours to accent any theme without interfering with it, a large dance space, and more.
Weddings at St. George Banquet Hall
From wall to wall and floor to ceiling this isn't just a reception hall; each element of St. George has been custom-designed specifically for weddings, events, and moments that people will remember for a lifetime.
St. George Banquet Hall offers three banquet rooms to choose from. For larger weddings, all three rooms can be combined to take up to 800 guests. You will also find two bars, an enormous kitchen, two cloakrooms, club rooms and free on-site bridal suites. The bridal suites are for use by the bride or bridal party to get prepped before the event or to take a breather in between and after dances.
Setting and serving a feast
St. George provides full food and beverage catering for events held within their three large banquet rooms. Buffets, four course plated meals, cocktail receptions, midnight buffets, luncheons, breakfasts, rehearsal dinners, and after-event Sunday brunches are all options here. On special occasions, St. George will even host events with guest chefs who come in to offer true ethnic cooking.
All catering is done on-site by experts who have spent a lifetime perfecting the craft of serving up delicious food to hundreds of people at events where top quality is expected. "I want to make this the happiest day of your life - it's as simple as that," Herbert told us. And we're sure that Herbert and his staff have the capacity to make that happen.
St. George Banquet Hall offers a fully customizable menu with options for various ethnic groups. Prices start at approximately $40 per person, and there is virtually no limit to the extravagant, upscale feast you can present to your guests. "Everything is pulled off perfectly," Herbert told us.
Beautiful table linens and dinnerware are available and ready to be used on your wedding day. These are included for free in your rental fee, as well as chair covers in many cases (subject to certain conditions so check with St. George Banquet Hall for details).
Bar options to please

In addition, St. George Banquet Hall allows you to bring in your own wine if you choose to make your own.
