Images Photography combines a dedicated approach with experience & passion to capture real memories
Heidi at Images Photography has revised and improved her website, and it's looking good! Check it out: www.imagesphotography.ca

On your wedding day, Heidi Faul has the privilege of capturing your story through a series of natural, thoughtful and emotional photographs through her company, Images Photography. She believes that these photographs show a great deal about the bride and groom's personalities, their love for each other, and the love among their family and friends. "For me, it isn't about the grand sweeping portrait, the fashion edge or the over-romanticized scene. It is about a real love story where the couple commits to a lifetime together in front of their family and closest friends. What an honour for me to be able to capture that for them!”

Brides seem to be drawn to Heidi's laid back, no-pressure, one-on-one approach that comes so naturally to her. At Images Photography, you can choose from a blended portfolio of pre-set packages and 'a la carte' options that can be customized and will likely fit into budgets and tastes of all brides. So, with roots that go way back in our wedding community, we had a lot of questions to ask Heidi when we met with her. Let us tell you what we found out...

Personally speaking...

Heidi is young and easy to talk to - likely one of the reasons couples are drawn to her. But with over twelve years of hands-on, practical experience, you can't mistake the fact that Heidi is both professional and experienced. "I'm still evolving as a photographer," says Heidi, who adds that she's so far into the groove of her work that you can rest assured you're getting someone with reliable, professional experience. After all, photography is a family tradition for her.

Heidi is a third generation Professional Photographer whose studio has been dedicated to excellence since 1955. It was founded by her Opa (Grandfather) in the 50s, passed to her father, and then to Heidi. And although she has fourteen years of experience shooting weddings, Heidi is always upgrading her skills. She is currently attending the Niagara School of Imaging where she studies alongside other professional photographers.

Heidi learned the love of photography at a very young age. She started shooting flowers in the backyard at seven years old and has not stopped since. Over the years, Heidi has honed her craft and has a strong connection with nature. "Creeks, logs, twigs, and leaves make a beautiful backdrop with creative flair," she told us. She adds that she loves artistic shots as well as carefully executed portraits.

Because Heidi recognizes that photography is continuously shifting, she makes sure that she is up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies. "I study technique and take courses to ensure that I am offering the best value to my clients," she explains.

Throughout this evolution, Heidi has switched from film to digital. She says the advancements in digital have changed nearly everything about the way business is done. "It's easy to see the benefits of digital photography... But I still shoot as if I were using film and do not rely on PhotoShop to 'fix' something in the prints," she explains. "I use PhotoShop to enhance the prints." This means that Heidi doesn't rely on editing later, but aims to get the perfect shot the first time, just like using film. That said, you can still catch Heidi sneaking one of her retired (but still loved) film cameras into the occasional event for a different look of your portrait.

On a day-to-day basis, Heidi works out of the new Images Photography Studio, a hobby farm in New Hamburg. It's an ideal location for shoots, including weddings, engagement and family photos.

Images Photography's wedding style

When it comes to weddings, Heidi told The Ring that she's a traditional girl at heart. "I love the simple elegance of weddings..." She says she documents the day, but also pays close attention to all of the different elements that will be part of each shot.

Jane and Bruce booked Heidi for their May 14th, 2011 wedding day as well as their engagement session, "She is an excellent photographer.  We had so  many shots to pick from they all were simply amazing. Our favourite memory  is when the car won’t start.  Heidi was getting creative with her shots, she captured great pictures on our day. I was very happy to have chosen Heidi do our Wedding pictures the memories she created was amazing!"

When it comes to the portrait shoot Heidi says she pays attention to the finer details, like position and body language. "The sight of a rogue hand or foot can damage the perfect picture," she explains, adding that most of the photos that brides see and love are actually 'posed to not look posed'. "I like to document the day, but I also take the importance of family and guests very seriously..." She feels that it's her attention to these finer details that make her a crucial element of your wedding day.

As for her couples' style, Heidi has worked with all kinds of couples over the years, but she says her brides tend to be more laid back, suburban and rural than anything else.

Heidi was definitely a crucial element for Adam and Dinah Rose's June 2010 wedding day, as they told us that she helped make the best of their day - rain or shine. The couple planned to get married and have pictures outside, but the weather wasn't exactly ideal. "Heidi was very efficient at getting through as many family pictures after the ceremony as we possibly could as we were watching the clouds roll in," explains the couple. "After the rain had stopped, we got right back out there and finished. She worked through everything very quickly to make sure that we were able to include everything that we wanted to in our pictures. She came prepared and had small mats for people to sit on so that they would not get wet."

"Heidi can do anything you want. Even if you suggest a position, she's up for it," said Lorraine Penney, after describing her own engagement shoot that entailed her now-husband, Allan, climbing up a tree for one of the shots. "Heidi just said 'sure'. She's totally flexible."

Before and after the formal portraits are taken, Heidi says that she photographs how the day unfolds. When the bride is getting ready at her home and the guys are putting on their ties, Heidi will take candid shots whenever the moment calls for them. "It depends what the couple is looking for, but you could describe most of my photos as fun with evidence of intimacy." We could certainly see this in the sample albums that she has in her studio (and the photos to the right).

Shellie and Mike Hill also loved browsing through Heidi’s albums and told us that the first time they met her they knew she would be the perfect photographer for their October wedding. "While we were viewing her preview albums, we noticed that her photos were natural looking, not 'posed'." Shellie adds that while she and Mike felt that their wedding day was a bit hectic, Heidi helped the situation. "She was casual, laid back and always gave words of assurance that everything would be fine." She reminded them of the importance of having fun on their wedding day.

Packages & pricing

Because Heidi has experience and knowledge when it comes to wedding photography, she feels she's got what it takes to give a bride and groom exactly what they want, within a price they can afford. That's why she's committed to offering packages tailored to the couple's taste and style.

Shellie and Mike told us, "Heidi's portrait packages definitely fell within our budget; she also worked together with us to personalize a portion of the package." Shellie adds that the experience of dealing with Images Photography was well worth it. "Heidi's ability to work alongside with me was most rewarding, we didn't hesitate to call her, email her or contact her in any way and she was always there to provide the answers to all of our questions or concerns."

When it comes to bridal or parents' albums, Images Photography offers hardcover, magazine-style and "traditional style albums with a classic, updated look." Traditional albums have always been the most popular choice "because they're durable and timeless," Heidi says. And for her, each album has to be perfect when it leaves her studio. "I consider myself to be a fussy person," she says. "I offer the level of excellence that I would want to be offered."

Images Photography also carries traditional and non-traditional thank you cards in both folded and postcard styles, in addition to custom framing, enlargements of photos, and much more.

Flexible pricing allows couples to customize their package or choose a pre-set package at Images Photography. The Hourly Rate Package starts at $1050 and includes three hours of photography coverage, a proof album and a few customized enlargements, plus prints for your entire wedding party. And that's just the beginning, Images Photography offers many other packages available that offer all day coverage, bridal albums and digital files so be sure to check out the website and talk personally with Heidi about what she can offer you.

For a totally memorable engagement shoot, Heidi offers an Engagement Photo Fusion Package for $450. This includes not only photos, but video from your engagement shoot as well, all put together in a beautiful slideshow. It's not only a wonderful keepsake, but a great addition to your wedding reception.

Heidi also offers Love the Dress sessions, where brides can have fun with a second shoot after their wedding. Heidi loves these sessions because it's a chance for brides to have a good time, in a relaxed setting after their wedding day.

Adam and Dinah loved that Heidi had many packages available and guided them to one that included everything they wanted while staying in their budget. "She was flexible," they add. "We found some other photographers' packages and hours were more set in stone than Images' were." In fact, Adam and Dinah's whole experience with Images Photography was great. "When we first met with Heidi, she seemed to be very open to listen to what we wanted for our wedding and then she made suggestions from there," they told us. "We would definitely recommend Images Photography to another couple getting married. "
