Romantic imagery, evocative moments, and artful compositions...Lyn Ismael-Bennett, owner of Lyn Ismael: Evocative Imagery of Love Stories, offers the kind of images that past brides describe as "timeless", "insanely beautiful", and "above and beyond anything we could have imagined" Lyn not only knows her stuff when it comes to capturing incredible images (for example, she can deal with any lighting situation imaginable) but, she knows how to make couples feel comfortable in front of the camera- evoking emotion in even the most camera shy couple and creating those 'take your breath away' moments that her couples will cherish forever. Here's more on this incredible photojournalist...
Personally Speaking
Although Lyn's passion for photography started in high school, it was a particular moment after her own wedding five years ago that Lyn first knew that she wanted to become a wedding photojournalist. Lyn explains, "I found out that there’s more that goes into wedding photography than just the traditional poses. When I got my wedding photos back, it was the photo of my mom giving me away, her solemn expression that shows she’s happy that I am marrying the man I love yet sad because I’m not her little girl anymore. It’s that one photo that reminds me of my relationship with her and that I will cherish forever. That’s when I realized that I want to be that kind of photographer who captures your story and documents your relationships with the people you love."
Although she always had a natural talent for shooting, Lyn began to study photography, becoming a member of the WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association), PPA (Professional Photographers of America) and WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International).
For Lyn, a constant education is key to becoming the best photographer possible, "I find it important to offer the best that I can give to my clients. I’m always attending workshops from industry leaders and conferences. I’m also a member of various organizations who offer resources for photographers to help them hone their craft."
And so, in 2009, Lyn was ready to open her own photography business. While she initially started as Pink Bliss Photography, Lyn has recently re-branded the business to become Lyn Ismael: Evocative Imagery of Love Stories.
After three years shooting weddings as a primary photographer and thirty weddings completed after the 2012 wedding season, Lyn says that documenting moments that evoke happy memories for her clients keeps her inspired. "Weddings can be chaotic at times but when I go back to see the images I deliver, I don’t see chaos. I see laughter, tears of joy, solemn moments.
I see romance...I see beauty and elegance. After all the chaos has come to pass, you are left with two people ready to start a new life and these images that reminds them of how beautiful their wedding was. Without the chaotic part."
For Bride Michelle Cali, Lyn played a crucial role on her May 27th, 2011 wedding day. "Lyn captures the secret moments of the day - the laughter, the dancing, the loving glances and the tears. Things you couldn't possibly have taken all in on your wedding day. Those are the best photos! Lyn is a wonderful person, dedicated to each individual client. She likes to get to know you and capture your day in a way that reflects you best. She is creative and but also incorporates your creative suggestions. Her pictures are beautiful and professional and are well beyond the value you pay for them."
From photojournalism to romantic imagery
Lyn describes herself as wedding photojournalist first and foremost, "I take photographs of genuine moments...I capture the moment as it happens." However, when it comes to taking portraits, Lyn likes to incorporate romantic images as well. "I take the opportunity to make my couples look elegant and beautiful."
Christine Williams booked Lyn for her August 20th, 2011 wedding day. She told The Ring that Lyn's style made for exceptional photos that truly captured the essence of her wedding. "After researching photographers in the area we came up with a short list and arranged meetings.
Lyn's photography was enough to catch our interest. We particularly loved how natural her ceremony photos looked...you could tell she loved what she did as she captured the emotions of others on their day. Lyn is committed to delivering the best possible photos of your wedding.
She will go above and beyond expectations to make sure this happened. She is detailed and professional...she invests in your day."
The Evocative Imagery style
For Lyn, working with brides that understand the value of photography on their wedding day is important. "They want to have images that preserve the moments that happened on the wedding day. "And while she has shot weddings for many different styles, Lyn's clients tend to
throw elegant and fashionable weddings, no matter what their theme is.
Michelle Cali hired Lyn for both her engagement session and wedding photos. Michelle remembers, "We chose Lyn for a number of reasons but what stood out to us most was her 'Wedding Photojournalist' designation. We loved that the wedding day was to be captured as a series of events, not just posed photos. She was also a relatively new professional at the time and her prices were very reasonable for a talented individual."
Kristy Miller was married on October 1st, 2011 and says that she couldn't agree more. "We loved that she got to know us and our own vision. When it came to choosing our wedding photo shoot location, she chose a quiet outdoor spot that was beautiful and functional and that neither of us had ever been to. It was nice to have those moments and not be fighting for space in a busy public area. She provided amazingly true photos that were affordable and conveyed a strong sense of the individuals she photographed."
