Fashion and celeb shooters at LoveKnots come home to London weddings

With a career in celebrity and magazine photography under their belts, LoveKnots Studios are bringing L.A.-caliber talent home to London Ontario brides. Both Wes Robitaille and Adam Sachs are family-oriented at heart – that’s why these lead photographers have chosen their families (and your weddings) over the fast lane. Since 2006, the pair have been focusing in on offering local and Southwestern Ontario brides the experience of fashion and commercial photography with the style and fun of posed and photojournalistic shooting.

Wes and Adam know how important wedding days are and that those moments will be ones that the bride and groom remember for a lifetime to come, and that’s why they say “there is no better job than photographing couples in love on their special day."

Both Adam and Wes have been formally educated in photography and multimedia, have won awards for their style and say that having two lead photographers allows them to be in two places at once while offering four edgy, artistic and creative eyes for composing images. On top of that, when we met with Wes and Adam, it was nice to find that they were easy going, creative and obviously having fun with their careers. Here’s what you can expect from LoveKnots Studios…

Personally speaking…

Adam and Wes became friends while they both attended Fanshawe College, where they each received a two year Diploma in Photography, a one year Post-Diploma in Advanced Photography with a Commercial Major, and a two year Diploma in MultiMedia Design and Production.

After college, Adam did freelance photography through his own company for several modeling agencies, magazines, businesses, and families. When Adam and his wife, Christian, had their first child in 2006, they decided they wanted to make photography more of a full-time business.

When he's not busy photographing weddings, Adam volunteers his time and photography for the Cobble Hills Farm Sanctuary, which has led to media attention for the plight of factory-farmed animals. He has also volunteered his photography skills for the Fibromyalgia Foundation and has won a print competition award from the Professional Photographers of Ontario (PPO). Adam was the sole photographer for a local magazine called Step Up, doing most of the editorial photography and all of the cover work, as well as other published works in multiple other magazines, like Grand in K-W.

Wes started out post-college working as a fashion photographer in Montreal, Toronto and Los Angeles. He walked us through his past experience, noting work he’s done for some high profile magazine such as, L’Oreal Professional, West Side Studios, InStyle, Rolling Stone, French Glamour and Cosmo.

While shooting in L.A., Wes says he worked with and edited the likes of Kate Winslet, Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Heath Ledger and Jennifer Lopez, among others. He also won the North American Hairstyling Award (NAHA) for fashion photography/styling team of the year in 2006.

When Wes and his wife, Julie, had their first child in 2007, they decided it was time to stop travelling and settle down in London.

Since Adam and Wes were always asked if they could photograph weddings, and they really enjoyed it, they decided that working together would allow them to really capture the whole day. "Wedding photography made perfect sense and was the obvious step for both of us and our families," the two told us. "There is no better job than photographing couples in love on their special day."

LoveKnots style…

Inspired each day by their own families, Wes and Adam say that over the past four years, they've photographed about fifteen weddings per summer wedding season. "It is really great to get creative with couples who are in love and to give them and their families images…"

Since Wes and Adam have both already experienced the joys of a wedding and say they appreciate their photographs from that special day, they know how important their couples' weddings are, saying that "the moments the photographer catches that day will be the moments the bride and groom remember for a lifetime to come."

This is why the two shoot with a photojournalistic style and bring "Four edgy, artistic and creative eyes for composing images. But what they say they're best known for is their "beautiful, creative-looking wedding photography style."

A style that seems to mesh well with their bridal clients, who Wes and Adam say are usually about the same age as the two of them, which makes communication and understanding a bit easier. "We are also fun, creative and outgoing, which helps us capture all of the great memories of their wedding day," they add. And don't forget budget-friendly, flexible, experienced and reliable.

Lindsay Ingraham, who had LoveKnots shoot her September 2009 wedding, says she was "very impressed with their artistic style and interpretation." She adds that Adam was very professional and easy going. "I knew that I would be comfortable having him around on the most intimate of days and I have many wonderful pictures to prove it. My fondest memories of my wedding day are the photo shoots we had… Adam not only got the typical wedding pictures, but he also got many candid shots. He is very creative and knows how to use the camera to flatter any shot or angle."

Wes and Adam describe themselves as family people, which also helps them to "not only be edgy enough for the bride, but to also know what the parents want."

Wes and Adam say they set out with their simple, catching-the-moment-style with a creative kick to match up with fun, outgoing, creative, edgy, and risk-taking London brides and grooms. "The couples that come to us are the casual, non-traditional type looking for something new and exciting," they add.

Packages & prices

With each package at LoveKnots Studios, you're almost always guaranteed to get two photographers – only on rare occasions do Wes and Adam book separate weddings for the same day. This way, you can have two shooters in two places at once – one with the bride getting ready, while the other is with the groom.

Packages also come with an online gallery, and all but the limited day coverage package come with various amounts of 8x10’s, 5x7’s, 4x6’s and all of the photos on a Keepsake DVD album. Each wedding usually ends up with 1000 to 2200 images, all colour corrected with minor edits.

What differentiates the packages is the length of coverage and the various extra prints and albums.

Limited Day Coverage for $1800 includes three hours of coverage, while Package One for $2500 includes full wedding day coverage.

Package Two is the most popular at LoveKnots because it fits what most brides are looking for in terms of photography needs and their budget. For $2900, the package includes, in addition to the prints already mentioned, an 11x14 twenty page bound photo book.

Package Three is $3600 and comes with the 11x14 twenty page bound photo book, as well as two 8x10 photo books (for the parents).

For $4600, Package Four includes all of the above, plus two sets of 5x7 prints (twelve of them) for the parents, one 8x10 print for each person in the wedding party, and a slideshow of wedding photos on CD.

If you're looking for a photographer for your destination wedding, booking with LoveKnots gets you 35% off the package of your choice when you add Wes and Adam to the guest list (covering room, board and airfare). This also gets you two professional photographers for up to three days of coverage.

Some extras…
• Post-wedding shoot: $750 for unlimited day session, any location within 200 km, two 8x10's, one 11x14 and all photos on a keepsake DVD album.
• Engagement Shoot: $450 for a two hour session, two 8x10's, one 11x14 and all photos on keepsake DVD album.
• Additional keepsake DVD album: $400
• Additional 11x14 twenty page bound photo book: $600
• Additional pages in book: $20

The average bride spends around $2900 at LoveKnots Studios with taxes, gratuities and fine print extra. Lindsay believes she got a great deal on her wedding photography package with LoveKnots. "I should have paid more for what I received, and for three different locations," she says. Lindsay adds that she always keeps LoveKnots' business cards in her wallet and has already recommended them twice.

Walking you through a LoveKnots wedding…

It's best to contact Wes and Adam by email or phone – they suggest at least six to eight months before your wedding.

Both Adam and Wes meet with brides and grooms and would be happy to do so wherever is convenient for the couple. During the meeting, Wes and Adam say they discuss what you're looking for as far as photography goes. "We go over the details of their wedding and what kind of coverage they want. We show them portfolios of our work, our contract, and discuss what package they were thinking."

"I met with Adam to discuss the options of the different packages and rates," Lindsay says. "He came prepared with references, examples, and many ideas to make my wedding pictures match my personality. It was stress free and hassle free."

When you're ready to book, a $500 deposit is required to reserve your day. Another $1000 is due about a week before the wedding when the details are finalized. The remainder is due after the wedding when the bride and groom receive the proof CD/DVD.

Both Adam and Wes are present on your wedding day. They typically start off separated in order to capture the pre-wedding jitters from both the bride and groom, and then follow the happy couple to the ceremony location. They capture the ceremony, family photos, wedding party photos, the bride and groom, and the reception together from many different angles using their "edgy and artistic eyes" and staying as long as you want them to.

Lindsay says she needed to get the typical family portraits at her wedding, but also wanted some crazy and artistic photos. She said Adam was "easy going and had no problems getting the photos… He was willing to climb rocks and hang sideways off of railings. He did what he needed to do to get a great shot. He was very concerned with making sure that we had plenty of pictures to choose from."

After the wedding, retouching is done and the online gallery is created where your family and friends can view and order from. "Orders from the website are sent to us for retouching, then sent to the printing company, and then mailed directly to the person who ordered the photos for convenience."

About two weeks after the wedding, Wes and Adam meet with the couple to give them their proof CD/DVD that they can choose prints from. Included on the proof CD/DVD are all the photos from the wedding with minor retouching as well as some of Wes and Adam's favourites with more advanced retouching.

A few fabulous wedding trends and ideas by LoveKnots...

Wes and Adam have noticed that many brides and grooms are being a lot more creative with their photos and are willing to take more risks. "The last wedding that we shot, the bride and bridesmaids all wore rubber boots and they did most of their photos on a farm."

Brides also love the more photojournalistic approach to wedding photography, but still keep some of the more traditional shots for the parents.
