iCandy Photography captures true love stories with a thoughtful, unique approach

When we met Candice Dosman, owner and principle photographer at iCandy Photography, we were blown away with her portfolio. Her zest for life and thoughtful approach to every single image she takes is abundantly clear. So we weren't surprised when her brides described her with words like "a visionary" and "unbelievably talented".

There were countless reasons why her brides love her. Part of her appeal is her laid-back, stress-free approach (we heard first-hand how comfortable she can make even the most camera shy groom feel). And part of it is that her images capture connections between couples, bringing back those incredible feelings of love and happiness from their wedding day. And another part of her appeal comes from an adventurous style that has the capability of transporting you to another moment.

Here's more on why brides can't get enough of iCandy.....

An original, artistic vision

During a trip of a lifetime to Africa, Candice found herself behind the camera almost constantly for one month. Out of this dream trip another dream was born - iCandy Photography. After returning home, she was inspired to start her own photography business and opened iCandy in 2008. As the principal photographer, she works alongside her partner Gary Cain, a partnership that perfectly compliments the iCandy vision.

Today, Candice shoots a limited number of weddings each year (a great reason to book early!). While her experience and expertise lends itself to fabulous shots at every wedding she shoots, Candice often enrolls in courses and workshops to consistently hone her skills.

Part of her magic also comes from shooting a wide range of experiences and subjects, including her travels abroad. Candice's wonderful sense of adventure and experimental nature helps her keep a fresh perspective as she shoots. No matter where she is, you'll find her with her camera, constantly snapping and soaking up new skills.

And after talking to her brides, it was obvious that Candice has become more than a wedding photographer to many of them; she becomes part of their lives and often photographs other life events as their families grow. One bride even told us that she can't wait for another big "life moment", just so that Candice can shoot it!

Candice also feels that it is important to give back to her community, and uses her skills as a photographer to do so. Among other things, she volunteers her photography services to the Kitchener-Waterloo Human Society, "because animals are people too!"

Documentary style that creative brides love

iCandy prides itself on offering a unique style and clicking with all types of clients, “from dancers to artists to business professionals to factory workers, my brides are educated, fun, creative and passionate (about life and photography!). They love to try new things and are willing to trust me and my recommendations, such as doing a “first glance” (photographs of the bride and groom before the ceremony).

Candice’s secret to producing images that are original and artistic comes from her style, which she tells us is relaxed and easy-going, with a little adventure mixed in. “I like bold colours, landscapes, and textures, and try to incorporate these into my images whenever possible.”

Nancy Klotz, whose wedding was photographed by iCandy in September, 2011, says she was immediately drawn in by iCandy’s photographs. “The pictures Candice captures are natural, sweet, and personal. They really tell a story... iCandy knows how to capture that very special moment in a photograph.” She says that Candice’s photos made her feel like she was right there at the shoot, transported to a different world. “I like how iCandy captures moments that you wouldn’t think could ever be captured. Candice pays attention to ALL details while she is shooting.”

Nancy also loved how Candice wasn’t afraid to try new ideas and locations and to have fun while doing it. When Candice found out that Nancy’s husband is a mechanic, she suggested that they shoot a portion of their engagement session at his shop. “Those are the best pictures because they really capture our personal lifestyles.” She was surprised by how comfortable Candice made the shoot. “It was one of my most favourite wedding planning moments!  We had so much fun and we have iCandy to thank for it!”

Candice even took pictures of Nancy’s cat and dog, "it melted my heart". Nancy said it was a truly emotional experience, made possible by Candice’s openness, originality, and the time she devoted to her.

An easy and fun approach

In our research on iCandy, we found that it wasn't just her photography that brides were drawn to, it was Candice herself, “I am like an old friend that makes them feel comfortable and beautiful and whom they have fun with, just how one should feel on their wedding day.”

Not only is her personality easy-going and friendly- it's also her remarkable talent for helping couples to have fun and feel comfortable in front of the camera that helps her capture images that show exactly who they are.

You just have to browse her website to see that Candice truly knows how to capture stunning shots that make her couple's look their best in their wedding photos. Everyone wants to look amazing on their wedding day, and it's clear that Candice puts a great deal of thought into angles and perspective, allowing for the most flattering photos that you'll feel proud to cherish for a lifetime.

Bride Erica Limisis couldn't agree more. She found iCandy through The Wedding Ring and knew as soon as she met Candice that she would be a pleasure to work with and would provide a great value for a great price. From the beginning, Erica felt like she had known Candice for a very long time. She appreciated how flexible Candice was with scheduling and with how she made Erica’s shy husband feel so comfortable. “She made it easy and fun,” Erica says.

Budget-friendly

Candice photographs weddings simply because she loves doing it, and aims to create an experience for brides that they love too, at a price they can afford. “With each wedding, I grow to love them more and more,” Candice says. “I love the relationships built with the bride and groom, and am lucky to call most of my brides friends after the wedding. It's such an important and special day and I am always honoured to be a part of it.”

Nancy tells us that she found iCandy’s prices to be very reasonable. She felt that she got more for her money than she could have ever expected. “Having Candice involved in my wedding was one of the best decisions I made for our special day.  Just amazing!!” Nancy says that Candice is, "just so passionate about what she does and you can see it through her final results and the moments she captures.” Nancy tells us that she can’t wait to have another photo shoot with iCandy in the future - family pictures, pets, babies!

Sweet Packages

iCandy offers different packages to cater to the different needs of brides. To give you an idea, The Tasty Treats package is $1500 for an hour and a half hour engagement shoot and high resolution edited images on DVD, as well as up to 6 hours of wedding day coverage, one photographer, unlimited locations, high resolution edited images on DVD and an online gallery for both shoots.

The Gourmet Affairs package is priced at $1950 and includes all of the above plus up to 8 hours of wedding day coverage, 2 photographers, a 9x12 keepsake album, and an online gallery for both shoots.

Working with iCandy

Once a couple emails iCandy, Candice will send them package information and set up a time to meet if they would like to review her portfolio in person. Candice will go to the couple’s home or the location of choice. If you love what you see, you'll have 7 days from your consultation to book.  Once you secure your date, you will usually book an engagement session with Candice (booked 4-6 weeks in advance).

If you've booked the Gourmet Affairs package, you'll meet with Candice for a pre-wedding consultation, usually about one month before the wedding. Two weeks before your wedding, you'll email Candice with your final timeline so that she is ready for your big day!

We love that after your wedding, Candice will do a sneak peek of images on her Facebook business page within a few days of the wedding. Next she'll send you an online gallery of edited images approximately six weeks after your wedding.  From here, you'll chose your favourite images for your album (if applicable).  Candice then designs and orders the album. You can proof and approve the album or Candice can surprise you with her favourites, "most brides opt to be surprised!" Finally, she will deliver your album and a disc of your images.
