Review is written by Staff @ The Ring and is based on • Interviews with this vendor • Interviews with past brides
Amanda Hartery began her Kitchener-Waterloo business because she saw a niche that needed to be filled in the wedding videography world: She wanted to give brides a more personal, attentive, unregimented option. After working in the production industry and at another wedding videography company, she realized that rather than going into a wedding with a set list of shots, poses, and scenes already planned, she would begin her work with an open mind and a camera that was ready to shoot anything and everything. And though she loves to capture the spontaneous scenes that no one could arrange or foresee, she remains true to you; keeping in mind your expectations and vision.
With this innovative take on weddings, it’s no wonder that Amanda gets such rave reviews from her clients. After all, she offers exactly what you would want your wedding video to be: a photojournalistic record of your day that captures you and your groom in your natural, loving, and totally blissful moments.
Here's more on this fantastic videographer.....
History and expertise
Ever since she can remember, Amanda has had a soft spot for videos and the recording process. Her mother testifies that at the ripe young age of six, Amanda was quite fascinated with the local news, even reciting the names of the lead anchors. And after realizing that her passion could be made into a career during high school, Amanda began on her path to becoming a videographer.
She attended Conestoga College for Broadcast – Television, specializing in videography. As a testament to her flair for capturing what matters most, Amanda graduated from the program with honours, and then went on to work as a videographer with renowned communications company Rogers. As she says, “I’ve worked with many production companies where I was doing various styles of videography work, such as live news, documentaries, short films, and pilot shows.” With this is mind, there is no doubt that Amanda will capture your most important moments on film, tell your unique story, and do it all in a professional manner.
Her happy clients, Craig and Deanna Jacobs, can back this up: “Amanda was a pleasure to work with on our wedding day! She went over and above what we expected and delivered an awesome video at the end of it. She was on time, very professional, and captured our day perfectly.”
With fifteen weddings under her belt and many other projects on the side, Amanda has the education, skills, and passion to document your wedding day.
She’s a professional, but also a friend
Working with a professional is a necessity on a day where you’re juggling a million different things and wanting everything to run smoothly. And while Amanda is clearly a professional, above that, she wants you to feel comfortable and totally at ease. When we asked her why she thinks brides pick her over other videographers, her answer: “I think brides often hire me because they see me as a down-to-earth, go-with-the-flow professional.” She adds, “They are looking for someone who is not only going to work with them, but also someone who feels like a friend to them.”
Because—let’s be honest—not everyone is comfortable in front of the camera. And when you want your intimate moments captured on video, you don’t want it to feel scripted or artificial. You want the real, genuine feelings that truly show your love story.
A different approach...
If you haven’t been able to tell already, Amanda likes to take a different approach to wedding videography. “I like to add new shots into every wedding that I do,” she says. She’s constantly evolving and growing, learning from her clients and adapting to their needs.
A lot of her clients are like her: down-to-earth and looking for something a little different. “They sometimes have a different type of wedding planned than what the ‘average’ wedding may be.”
For this reason, Amanda prides herself on her flexible, easy-going approach. And her clients, like Stella and Rob Hallewick, agree: “We really appreciated all of her hard work and her flexibility during the process!” Through her experience in the television industry, she knows that thoughts and plans can change from moment to moment, especially on a day when you’re filled with such an assortment of emotions. “Plans that were in place on a wedding day will change—I have yet to see a wedding day stick exactly to schedule.” And while some videographers may lament such a trait about weddings, Amanda retains a carefree, mellow attitude. “I will be there for your major events and capture your needs for your special day. A bride does not have to worry about me walking out on her because I reached my hourly limit. She will not have to worry about backlash for asking for something else to be included in the video—Of course I can add something else!”
And although Amanda wants to record all of your most cherished memories; she doesn’t want to get in your way or hinder the natural flow of your wedding. Amanda says that many brides remark that while she captured everything they wanted, they barely even saw her throughout the day. This “fly-on-the-wall” approach can be really important on your wedding day, when there are so many guests to visit with, and even more, when you want to spend a bit of time with your new partner.
A gift for you
One of the things that Amanda loves most about being a wedding videographer is the personal satisfaction of capturing your special day. “Knowing that couples are seeing my work for years to come is a real honour and a key factor in what keeps me working hard.” She adds, “I really enjoy putting together the memories of a wedding and telling the happy story you will relive forever.”
She enjoys it so much, in fact, that she likes to give the couple an added bonus. “As a surprise, I shoot messages to the bride and groom at their wedding.” She personally hunts down guests and those closest to the happy couple and records their reactions and well-wishes.
Pricing and Packages
Amanda offers two packages:
HALF-DAY PACKAGE:
She shoots either the pre-ceremony and ceremony, or the ceremony and reception. For a single camera, prices are about $1000, and for two cameras, roughly $1300.
FULL-DAY PACKAGE:
She shoots all major events from getting ready to the reception. For a single camera, $1300, and for two cameras, $1600.
Both packages include three copies of the DVD in high definition, with online proofing before the DVD is burned. These will be ready within a month of the wedding. A $200 deposit is required to book and the rest can be paid the day before the wedding.
The process
It’s best to book with Amanda at least two months before your wedding day. You can start by contacting her by phone or through email. Then, she likes to meet you at a coffee shop or at your place, where you can ask her any questions and she'll show you some samples of her work. She'll also ask you what your plans and hopes are for her on your day. If you decide to book Amanda, you further discuss what you expect out of the videography and set-up a rough schedule. After she shoots all of your most important and treasured moments, she begins editing, including you in the process by allowing you to see videos she posts for your-eyes-only online. As past groom Rob Clark says, “Amanda was willing to put in so much time with us!” Within a month, you can have three copies of the DVD in hand.
