FireRock Golf Club had weddings in mind

FireRock Golf Club opened in July of 2005 with more in mind than just offering a fabulous public golf club to the London and surrounding areas. Jim Spivak and his colleagues opened FireRock with the intention of catering to banquets, corporate events and wedding receptions in addition to their regular services. In fact, before going to the drawing board to begin design, Jim personally toured a long list of Southwestern Ontario golf and country clubs to take notes and to ultimately design FireRock so that it was entirely different from all the clubs he'd seen.

Since that hot summer opening day, FireRock Golf Club has had no shortage of wedding bookings, having now hosted over forty weddings each season already.

The management and staff at FireRock say they love working with weddings. "Every detail is so important to the bride and groom when you do a wedding... It's such a fantastic response you get after the event... It's rewarding." Jim likes that the fact that weddings bring the best of the service industry together in one event - working with others planning a truly special event, and working with the bride and groom as together they fine tune each detail that goes into the wedding day. One of the experts who helps do this is the Food & Beverage Manager, Melanie Kmiec.

Club offers style, attention and options

FireRock Golf Club offers local brides a beautiful location that covers just about every style of wedding, from casual to formal, traditional to ultramodern.

Dressed in contemporary light fixtures, floor to ceiling windows, sienna reds and mustard golds, a maple hardwood dance floor, FireRock's ultimate look can play with just about any décor. "FireRock lends itself to any style of wedding whether it be classic, traditional, kind of funky or an imaginative theme." With lots of space, a huge open patio, and contemporary architecture that's obvious in everything from floor to ceiling, FireRock was clearly designed to stand out and look gorgeous. As it was their intention from the beginning, Jim says, "There is no other location like it in all of Southwestern Ontario," admitting that he still appreciates walking down the halls lined with contemporary artwork each day. The modern feel and artwork is a definite plus since so many golf and country clubs tend to line their walls with golf and tournament-style photos that don't necessarily tie in with wedding decor.

FireRock is equipped and staffed to play host to just about anything a brides' heart desires. This includes indoor and outdoor wedding days, on-site ceremonies and receptions, endless photo location opportunities, catering that's easy to love and one-on-one wedding planning assistance throughout each step. They can accommodate weddings of 70 to 250 guests in the spring, summer or fall. They will even open their doors for your winter wedding date, upon special request.

FireRock signatures

FireRock says they specialize in making sure that weddings here are all about the bride and groom. Their staff cater the facilities, grounds, food and services around decisions the bride and groom make in the planning process. "We offer flexibility in creating the wedding day that the bride and groom want most... We don't try to fit them into a package or mould that we've previously planned." That's why there aren't many restrictions and almost no pre-set packages here. "We'll do everything we can to make it all come together on your special day", noting that all staff and management are trained to offer personalized attention to detail.

On the wedding day, you have the use of the entire clubhouse for your reception from front entrance, to huge foyer with fireplace, to either or both banquet rooms and large patio! And from the ceremony to reception, most couples who tie the knot at FireRock opt to host all events and photo shoots in this one great location.

FireRock tries to make your planning as easy as possible for you. They can arrange for hotel accommodations, a DJ, a florist, a photographer, an on-site officiant, a decorator and even a licensed fireworks technician. FireRock has even been known to provide bridal gown and tuxedo selections as well. They have found this extra service to be extremely appreciated, especially in cases where couples are planning their wedding from a distance.

Space & options

Three areas are favourites for wedding ceremonies - the driving range, the ballroom, or the FireRock patio that overlooks the greens.

Receptions can take place in the ballroom or the FireRock Patio. This patio, our personal favourite, is expansive with a great view, and can be used just for your ceremony overlooking the greens, or it can be the centre of your day, so that your guests dance underneath a fireworks display personally arranged for you.

Three locations are favourites for photos in and throughout the golf course. FireRock will make sure you know where to go for these hot spots, so that you and your photographer won't get lost.

Wedding memories - FireRock style

FireRock's most memorable weddings cover all directions of the style compass. Jim described a wonderful wedding on the patio that was essentially a huge, casual, outdoor BBQ reception. He said the guests had a blast, and the bride and groom proved that even a barbeque can be beautiful.

"We really have had all styles of weddings here... We have also had lots of themed receptions." One of FireRock's favourite themed wedding was one that had staff transforming the entire facility into a jazz night club. "It was fantastic. They had international food stations and signature drinks... They even had dueling pianos for entertainment!"

Even winter seems to tie in with the FireRock décor. When they opened up for a winter wedding this past year, the couple used ice candles to lead the way through that front area that leads into the clubhouse. With grounds covered in snow and trees in ice, "It looked beautiful."

Bar options

FireRock can run a host bar, cash bar or ticket bar. But like most things they do, their ticket bar is unique in that they use FireRock 'pebbles' instead of tickets. Jim can help explain your options to you when you call him.

Catering

• Most popular choices are roasted chicken with a red pepper or a white wine portabella cream sauce, black angus prime rib merlot au jus and the slow roasted beef sirloin buffet

Pricing it out...

FireRock customizes each catering menu for the couples that come to see them. They can design a fabulous meal for $30/person or a show-stopping evening filled with food and beverages for $120/person. Your options are virtually endless, and Jim will help you narrow it down into what you love at the price you can afford. Like most facilities, a rental fee of up to $1250 applies. FireRock offers a special group discount on a golfing package when booking a wedding with them.

Details, details, details

• FireRock recommends calling approximately 1 year ahead of your wedding in order to have the most choice of dates, but you're always invited to inquire at any time, in case of cancellations.
• There is a deposit of $1000 to book your wedding at FireRock Golf Club.
• 40% is due 60 days before the wedding, 40% 30 days before (at the same time you must give your final guest count), and the final payment is due the day of your wedding.
• There is lots of free parking for guests on-site.
• For any guests coming from the 402, there are good direction signs, starting from exit 82.
• Corkage fees of $13 per bottle apply at FireRock, and gratuities are extra.
