39 years of breathtaking bouquets, incredible talent and stand-out service makes Drimmie Florist a favourite vendor among Southwestern Ontario Brides

When we go on the search for the perfect vendor to share with brides in The Ring, it's businesses like Drimmie Florist that make our hunt worthwhile. They not only offer floral arrangements that are truly second-to-none, but in meeting with them, it's clear that they put every bit of themselves into their work. The results are so incredible that their past brides describe them as, "real floral artists, their work goes above and beyond anything else that I've ever seen" and "the best part of my wedding...hands down!"

Featured in The Wedding Ring (including our Spring/Summer 2012 cover!),Canadian Florist and Style at Home, this husband and wife team have made it their life’s work to offer stunning floral masterpieces to couples throughout Southwestern Ontario. Using only the highest quality flowers and producing classic designs with a fresh new twist, they have earned a well-deserved reputation for creating beautiful bouquets that are true works of art.

Let us tell you more .....

Love in bloom

David opened Drimmie Florist in Elora when he was just 19 years old. With his passion for the floral industry and a natural talent, the business was a success, right from the start.

It would be a fateful day, seven years later when Karen would walk in and apply for a job as a designer in the shop. She not only offered a fresh and unique style but the two fell in love and have been working side by side every since!

Today, Drimmie Florists does twenty to thirty weddings a year, designing show-stopping bouquets, ceremony arrangements, centerpieces, corsages and boutonnieres, and cake flowers. Trained in florist and art and design, and armed with award-winning corsage work, Karen and David have become the place to go for flowers in Elora and beyond.

And after so many weddings, the pair not only love what they do, but are still as passionate about their work as they were thirty-nine years ago. Karen says, “It is a wonderful feeling to be able to help make a bride’s wedding dreams come true.” A part of their garden is devoted to growing unique foliage just for the use of wedding arrangements. They have even held three weddings in their own back yard! They feel honoured to be a part of so many weddings, and are now seeing couples who had their wedding flowers done by Drimmie’s 25 years ago who are coming back for their children’s wedding flowers.

Classic designs with a twist

Karen and David have pulled off countless looks over the years: dramatic bouquets with rich colours and textures, bounties of bright blooms that pop, and pretty posies with soft, natural hues. Karen stays up-to-date with current trends and says that glamorous arrangements with lots of rhinestones and texture is very right now. But she believes that it is most important to select designs that reflect who the couple are and what the couple wants. Drimmie  strays from the typical pre-done packages. “Brides love that we treat each one as an individual… We don’t want any wedding to feel cookie cutter.” Her absolute favourite thing to say to brides is, “There are no rules, it’s your wedding day!”

Amanda Garibaldi of Kitchener, Ontario ordered all of her wedding ceremony and reception flowers from Drimmie, and says that Karen made helpful suggestions about which flowers to use that fit with her wedding theme perfectly. “When I told Karen what I wanted, she took my idea and ran with it.”

Sarah Gammie chose Drimmie Florist for her wedding in August, 2011. “I went with a simple Calla lily bouquet but Drimmie made a simple bouquet into stunning masterpiece. They had so many ways for you to customize the arrangements – from ribbons, to accents, to greenery – they definitely took a bouquet and made it mine.”

Perfect petals and perfect prices

Karen believes that Drimmie Florist is best known for the quality and beauty of every bouquet that leaves the store. They even double order everything needed for the wedding day, just to ensure that the flowers are perfect.

Whether couples are working with large or small budgets, and are after simple or extravagant arrangements, Karen says they can make it happen. “We love the challenge of figuring out a bride’s needs and wants and working within the budget they have given us.”

Karen helped Renata Hill, who got married in June 2011, to execute her vision while sticking to her budget. Renata says, “We had 380 guests at our wedding so I’m sure you can imagine how much I had on my plate!” Renata had complete confidence that everything would be delivered on time, and that everything would be beautiful. “I knew Drimmie wasn’t just making my order for the sake of business. I could tell they were very passionate about their work and took much pride in it.” Renata couldn’t have been more pleased by her bouquet, which she says was the most beautiful bouquet she had ever seen. “I felt like I was carrying a piece of art … It took my breath away.”

Helpful and reliable

As a family-run business with expert florists, Drimmie is proud to be known as a trusted vendor that is easy to work with. “We have a great reputation in town, being in business for so long,” Karen told The Ring.

Renata says she came to Drimmie because she was impressed by their long track record, and was touched that the shop is run by a husband and wife who fell in love there. “Also, their shop was beautiful … From the moment I walked into their shop I knew I would be in business with them.”

Amanda says that the first time she met with Karen it was in their quaint shop. “She made an effort to stay open after hours to meet with us and she made us feel very comfortable. Karen and her husband walked us through all of the options and didn’t make the process feel overwhelming at all. Karen was wonderful to work with and by the end of our meeting I felt as if she was an old friend.” Amanda’s favourite memory in working with Drimmie Florist was on the day of her wedding. She was getting ready at her parents’ house when she saw Karen walking up with a box full of beautiful bouquets. “It was a wonderful memory because there were so many things to worry about the day of my wedding, but I never had to worry about my flowers. Drimmie delivered exactly what we wanted and took a big stress away from our day.”

Walking you through it

Karen tells us that she loves it when couples come into the store to meet with her to discuss their wedding details. That way she can see swatches and any photos the couple has gathered throughout the years. “Just by coming into the store couples will get inspired, and understand how passionate we are about weddings. It makes the whole experience a little more personal.”

Email is also becoming a very popular way for brides to contact Drimmie, however, and it’s an easy and fast way to gather important details such as wedding date, colours, budget, and number of guests.

Couples will often meet with Karen or David three or four times to talk about colours, themes, and style options. Karen says they are sure to not only listen to the brides, but also the grooms. “So often their ideas go unnoticed, but they often have a great point of view. It is their day too, after all.”

Once a couple decides that they would like to book, a $200 deposit is required to secure the date. Additional payments of any amount can be made whenever it is convenient for the couple, as long as the full amount is paid a week before their wedding. Vases can be rented out, and returned within a week after the wedding.

The couple will also come in at least a month before the wedding so they can review everything. Small changes can also be discussed over a simple phone call; “We are very flexible with change,” Karen says/adds. Sometimes they will also go and visit the wedding venue in order to figure out the exact placement of arrangements.

The flowers are delivered two hours before the wedding to the bride’s house, the church and reception venue. Arrangements can also be transferred from the church to the hall if needed. Karen does all that she can to ensure that brides have nothing to worry about. She will often be on site with extra flowers in tow so that bouquets and arrangements can be touched up.

Cheryl Leigh Cheevers had Drimmie Florist do all of her flowers for her June 11th, 2011 wedding day. She told The Ring, " It was wonderful working with Karen, David, and Anna. They were open to discussing a lot of our ideas via email (thank goodness because we live in Mississauga!) and were flexible when we needed to meet with them in person. The prices were very reasonable and we feel we got more than what we paid for. Drimmie Florist would be the only florist I would recommend in the Fergus/Guelph area."
